Kind of yes, but main rule I go by is if a 3blind raise is more than 1/3 of my stack is push or fold (mainly push).

Just saying hi to anyone who remembers me from the old days (around BB2 at glasgow I think).

Anyway, had a break for a couple of years (par the odd home game), truefully just swapped my poker addiction for world of warcraft but caught the poker bug again and back for good now.

Went to dtd for first time saturday, good to see a couple of old faces there (MonkeyMatt & a few of the InTheBelly boys).

Anyway, good to back on the scene, c ya around.

They are coming to the UK this month  -  anyone who has a sense of humour should go see it - it's well worth the money.

Got any more details about this Ali.  I had a look on their site and on TicketMaster but I can't find any details.

Don't spend too much.  You can save yourself a fortune online with these things.

I got a 2gb one of these but it sounds to me like the cheap £13.99 128MB will do you.

1) I probably wouldn't stop to think for more than a mili-second about what cards he has.

2) I know I'm not folding my hand.  If he has 10J for JJ then good luck to him.  Thats poker and I just got very unlucky.  I think its much more likely that he has 10 Q, 10 8, Q K, 7 8, A 10, QQ, AA

Given his position I can't think of any possible hand he'd have that I wouldn't be betting on the flop with unless I also flopped the FH with 99.

This has to be a bad beat post though so he must have had QQ, KK, AA and he paired the river for a beter FH?

I remember my first proper live game.  I'd played a few home games round my mates before but this was my first MTT game.

It was a £5 PL rebuy beginners night on a Tuesday evening down the Gutshot back in July 04.  This was also my first ever experience of Pot Limit.

I was extremely nervous.  This did however work out to my benefit though when the table bully mistook my nerves for putting all my chips in with a bluff only to lose to my floped nut straight.  There was 140 entrants (my memory isn't that good - Gutshot publish all there results online so I could look it up).

I finished 6th!  It was about 3am at the time and I remember thinking how dead I'm going to be at work tomorrow.  I still had well over an hours journey home and I didn't know how get out of London at the time.

I remember sitting on the right of Barry 'The Bully' Martin and him giving me a talking to as I folded away my blind for most of my small stack in the blinds.  "Any two cards" I remember him saying.  I understand what he was saying now, there is now way I was going to take the tourney down without being extremely lucky or getting a few double ups.

From his point of view it's the correct thing to do.  But for me it was about the experience and winning as much as possible.  I knew if I folded there was a strong chance a few of the other small stacks might drop before me.  I did play a hand or two in the end with one double up I think but I was right about the other small stacks and 3 players dropped over the  next round or two and I made 6th rather than 9th and made £132.  I was over the moon!

I still get nervous in big pots, especially if it's on the bubble of a bigger buyin when I now realise I need to play my short stack to avoid being blinded out.  I'm still and advocote of survival over gambling near the bubble though.  I've turned round several final tables (live and online) from arriving as the small stack.  Generally speaking with blinds at that stage a couple of double ups will put you back up with  the average stack.

I will say that everybody was very friendly and understanding towards new players.  I don't think you can help the nerves.  Just enjoy the experience and catch the bug that is live poker.

Friday 17th

* Normal £20 Cincinnati comp, open to public

I'm gonna be up in time for this Tourney.  Anyone know if it's a rebuy or a freezeout?  If it's a rebuy, do you know how many levels / start chips they have the rebuy period?

I just booked the TravelLodge in Paisley road which I'm informed is under a mile from both the train station and Cin-Cins.

For those who are interested it was £45 per night for a family room (1 double, 1 single, 1 pull-out sofa).

I'm just coming up for the Friday an Saturday, probably head back after the quiz on Sunday.

Looking to book some accomidation for the weekend and was wondering where the majority were staying as i dont want to be miles away from all the late night/early morning side action.

Would it be best to wait until tightend has sorted out ant deal or would it be best to book ASAP to avoid dissapointment?

Many thanks

Jim.
Wondering the same myself.

Ok,

I've got the Friday and Monday off work and I'm coming up.

Looking forward to meeting you all in the flesh.  I'll sort out transport and hotels shortly.  Is the club / recommended hotels far from the Main train station?

See you all soon.
