Not much of a bencher and never stray above 100KG on my own but PT wanted to benchmark a 1RM and got up to 120KG which I was quite pleased with and went up quite easily..unfortunately 125 got stuck halfway lol.

Still continuing with engine building and pacing longer workouts.. starting to finally gain back the fitness and strength but it seems to have been a long road back..age maybe starting to become a factor Sad

Its a tough road back..

As expected its a real struggle first few weeks back and ive had some what i consider pitiful times and performances.. but am carrying extra timber so thats not helping.

Ive completed 14 sessions in the last 3 weeks.. 5 with the PT. We are working on my olympic lifts..snatches..cleans..squat cleans..deadlifts etc.. currently its volume with light weight.

Alongside this is rebuilding the aerobic engine..and we are doing more pacing work rather than flat out meaning long sweat inducing work.. one example is a run and row combo where you complete as many rounds of 500m row 400m run in twenty minutes.

First week was a set of 20 min ..10 min break then another set of 20 mins.. second week was the same but 8 min rest..3rd week was 3 sets and 8 min rest..this week its going to be 3 sets but 6 min rest..thats an hour of continous go but pacing rather than as fast as possible (not that you could as you would be done before the first set was over) it shows how quick you can improve as my averages week 3 are already better than week 1 and 2 despite the extra 20 minutes

managed to tweek my back and knee though.. but seemed to be holding up... i can always hide behind the age excuse Smiley

First week back into it..today will be my 5th session of the week... My PT's gym is very busy the local Lloyds pretty quiet.

Been tough this week... PT has a new 8 week programme in place and its been tough.. strength and fitness both down but shouldnt take too long to get back to it

From what I can make out from the leaked roadmap they won’t open gyms until end of April?? That’s just ludicrous

Hanging in there with home workouts.. but having to push myself to do them with limited equipment... motivation is low but once im going and finished glad i did.. cant wait to get back to the gym.. Still carrying some excess Xmas weight and last weeks birthday resulted in a two day pizza and cake orgy im not proud of Smiley

one of the parts today was death by burpee.. every minute on the minute and increase by 1..so first minute 1 the second minute 2 and so on ..have a minute to complete each round and then go again..got through round 15..just..not bad considering i am out of shape... and none of these girls squat thrust burpees ...full chest to floor ones with jump on the upward leg  Cheesy Cheesy

was going to buy a concept rower.. almost 4 month wait looool

Songbird

Been a bit quiet here lately.. so lets have a topical review..

Songbird is a film released in December exploiting the current COVID situation for views and exposure..

Set a couple of years in the future it builds on the current COVID crisis. Things have turned for the worse and COVID 23 is now airborne and very deadly with around a 50% mortality rate. We join Los Angeles in the midst of a true lock down with hazmat dressed troops roaming the deserted streets with orders to shoot to kill and the Sanitation department picking up the newly infected, identified by an app you have to use every morning, and carting them off to Q zones to die.

The bleak plot and story is paper thin as you would expect and centres around an immune Med student turned cycle courier who delivers packages to the rich in the Hollywood Hills and dreams of earning enough money to get himself and his girlfriend out of the city and the untainted zone that apparently is Big Sur. A sub plot runs alongside and entwines to do with a rich LA couple selling black Market wrist tags that people immune to the disease wear.

The film has decent production values and a couple of star turns including Demi Moore . It clips along and comes in a shade over 90 minutes which is plenty.

The film itself is average at best and has bus size holes in the plot, one particular sequence in the middle literally made no sense at all. However its elevated to worth a watch in the hear and now as we all face what unravels in front of us,making the viewer uneasy as his mind realises this could actually be a real world scenario.

We are of course dealing with the hypothetically worst scenario possible but I would say if you are a bit on the nervous side Re COVID then maybe you shouldnt watch this as you may have trouble getting to sleep for the next two weeks. The rest of us sicko's who lap up this kind of thing and whose first film they watched back in March was Contagion its decent enough for a watch..

They should have just said fuck all until it was analysed, imo.

Deano 1.25 to be picked up on the news during the next 'Freedom March' in London Grin

I don't think they can wait until absolutely certain Marky.  If they are reasonably sure of something they need to act quickly, even if there is still a chance they may be wrong.  A couple of weeks or a month can make huge differences to the fatality rate.

And FWIW It has been analysed, just not as well as would be ideal if they had the luxury of long time scales.

Tier 4 for me from boxing day, guess visiting my ma would have been a bit reckless.

Direct quote from Sky news ' shortly to be analysed at Porton Down' that sounds like we havent checked it properly yet but we are going on sketchy reports from South Africa and having a bit of a guess...to say the media dont make up half of it as they go along is naive at best..if there is a group with a lot to answer for in all this its the media.
its odd that anyone who has even a slight different point of view is just regarded as a foil hat wearing madman whose viewpoint is there is no virus and its all a great conspiracy by the worlds governments to control us. Its actually quite insulting and arrogant.. I dont think there is a person on this thread who thinks like that but there are those of us that see a broader picture ..we can see the actual demographic of the people covid actually kills..spouting on about infections is pointless.. concentrate on the demographics its likely to kill rather than lumping in the majority.. (around 98.6%)who wont actually die of it and dont just hyper focus on numbers and ambiguous media statements that often contradict themselves in the same release. Protect and secure the vulnerable dont let them wander down tescos .. I think the most frustrating thing is the contradictory advice which is often illogical and just seems knee jerk ..
An example is a care home I know someone is in.. they have a floor to ceiling screen.. you couldnt get anthrax through this thing.. the vistors are actually outside in the open and this thing covers the back patio doors. Yet covid has just been found in the home..why ? one of the carers brought it in..but no one is allowed to visit despite the over the top precautions taken that ensure 100% no visitor could transmit covid to a resident..yet no visits allowed.. this illogical thinking is half the problem.

this further Tier 4 until boxing day is just nonsense..they seemed panicked enough to lock the south east down inside 12 hours but now it seems we can take our time with other areas so we can get xmas in before hand.. has it become less serious since Saturday?..can these extra areas get away with having xmas day..did covid send a memo saying it was taking a few days off infecting people but was resuming boxing day? ...

it seems the only real viable answer is the vaccine which is starting to roll......if thats the case stop pissing about and lock us down until go time and pour as much resources as required into manufacturing it as quickly as possible.. because if you are that worried about people dying thats what you would do.. as an aside a couple of people i know who are classed as high risk living in London  have received texts advising about total isolation boxing day onwards..they say that when they got htis before it heralded a national lockdown..looks like that could be on its way..although im assuming thats what Tier 4 is anyway unless we are going to make a Tier 5 Smiley

Just don’t understand what the Government thinks it’s doing. (well i do, its populist and its xmas)

Two dangerous new strains identified in less than a week.

One already spreading rapidly around the country.

The other, South African, even more transmissible, means anyone who has been to or in contact with anyone who has been to SA has to quarantine, properly quarantine. no mixing with anyone even in the same household

Yet Ministers are waiting days to introduce lockdown measures, even though they publicly state speed is vital.

it should be today, and it should be full lockdown now, xmas or not?

and get the Oxford vaccine approved and ramp up the numbers protected asap

Report says we havent analysed the new strain from south africa yet as it is being sent to Porton Down so it can be ..so going on assumptions there..report also states the vaccine will be fine against it as it is able to combat a wide range..not sure how you can say that for sure against a new strain..just more examples of the media mis information and making it up as they go along for maximum clicks...but you are right the waiting until boxing day is utter comedy..comedy from clowns who we trust and obey almost without question
