1  Poker Forums / Best of blonde / Re: "Dusk till Dawn" Poker Club In Nottingham Diary (by Rob Yong) on: January 13, 2008, 05:06:45 PM
Count yerselves lucky.  In our neck of the woods, there's a 'Tour' group running pub league tourneys with a €20 buy in + €10 reg .  In wee pubs, with (at best) 1 dealer supplied and a few sausages and chips thrown in to justify the fee.  Oh wait...they bring a laptop with them to keep track of results too.  Lovely...NOT!

Simple really, dont play in it if you do not think your getting value for your money.

Personally i think dtd may have done better making it £30 + £5 but im sure they know what they are doing.
If i remember rightly there was meant to be a membership fee to join and play at dtd, as far as im aware no charges have been made yet so for your fiver your getting to play poker in A1 surrondings with dealers.

You can be sure I'd NEVER set foot in the door to one of those pub tourneys, but wouldn't mind paying the £5 at dtd because they're offering a top class service.

Those pub tournies are FREE and give out thousands in prizes and introduce new players which are badly needed. DTD is an excellent club and Rob has spent a fortune trying to get things right. He deserves a lot of support but dont knock the ideas that bring in new players ...you were one once!

Pub poker, with it's heady mix of alcohol, ignorance, and aggresion, has the potential for trouble. Coupling that with organizer, who don't know their arse from their elbow........steer clear

I agree if you are going to play poker in the pub then leave it to those who have been doing it for several years......sorry could not resist Smiley

Of these remaining 4 players, Scott O'Reilly is probably the least well known, but managed a very impressive 56th place at the WSOP ME in 2006, picking up a handsome 6 figure sum, certainly not bad from 8773 runners. He's also a lurker on blonde under the name 'Mongy' from what I gather.

Scott is a regular 5/10 nlh player and won a wsop seat at pokerface 2007 and also cashed at the Golden sands festival. He is my tip to win this  Smiley

Hey Ralph

Thanks for the great report, I am really glad you enjoyed yourself. I hope to see you (and many other Blondes) at the next one. We are hoping for several events in the new year and I will keep everyone posted as soon as we have details.

Paul parker and Bambos heads up in the £100, 3 poker in the pub players make the money in the main event, players from all over Europe and "Elvis " wins the £500 main event...it was hard work but good fun.  Smiley

There is Stanley casino across the road from the Grovesner. If you would like a "mini Blonde bash" I will speak to them and see if I can arrange something. I am sure they would be only to happy to help out.

if i had a pound for everytime someone asked me "you're not from round here are you?" i wouldn't be sat in work now!! Cheesy

couldn't beat it for being relaxed and laid back - only downside being i couldn't drive at the time and walking round (especially when i was job hunting) was nigh on impossible!! Sad

Well you are welcome back (I have checked .......your paspport is still valid )   Grin

Oh and take a translating book as well (with pictures if possible) - i lived there for 3 years and even though i don't think my mancunian accent is that thick i had to ask the same question at least 3 times near enough everywhere i went for the first six months - u s u a l l y   r e a l l y   s l o w l y   t h i r d   t i m e   r o u n d, so that they understood me!! Cheesy

Monkey with a manc accent what do you expect  Cheesy

As I am from Plymouth I am bound to say that I am sure it will sell out. It is no further from London than Manchester and takes just as long to get here. I am sure it will be a huge success. The Golden Sands in Torquay looks like it will sell out and that is with Leeds competing with it. There are a lot of on line players in the south west and we have a thriving series of cash games. As for the well known names then I admit I dont know but I see no reason why players would not want to come as they travel much further for other events.....and yes we have an airport Smiley  If anyone needs any hotel advice etcthen I will try and help

I think you all may be surprised. Casinos want attendance levels and if poker brings players in and takings go up in the bar and at the tables then I believe the rake will come down. They want you in the casino so if the main groups start fighting over your business then the rake is the best place to start.
12  Poker Forums / The Rail / Re: September Casino Guidelines Query on: July 20, 2007, 03:05:53 PM
Has anyone got a definitive understanding on what is happening in the casino world (UK) from september 2007?

I understand the following:

Tips are allowable for all gaming staff. (taxable)

Self style licences replace the existing gaming licence, allowing freelance croupiers into any casino at any time.

Croupiers will be allowed to play in other uk casino's without a risk to their licence.

Fraternisation with customers is allowable outside the casino hours of work.

Have I missed anything?

Hi Nick can you post a link were you can see the new publication of the regulations.

Cheers

Dave

i think he ll be another gold, i really do. doyles gonna rip him to pieces in hsp

Unlike other players i'm fairly sure most of that money will never see the green felt again

I agree from what I can see from his interview on the world series site he seems like a really nice bloke who will try and use the money to do some good. I hope he does and good luck to him

Hand #25 - Philip Hilm
Hand #25 - Jon Kalmar has the button in seat 9, Philip Hilm raises from the cutoff to 600,000, Hevad 'Rain' Khan reraises from the small blind to 2.2 million, and Hilm thinks for more than a minute before he moves all in for 15.9 million. Khan goes into the tank for about two minutes before he folds. Philip Hilm takes the pot. (Side note: A drunken railbird was escorted out of the Milwaukee's Best No-Limit Lounge shortly before Hilm moved all in.)
