I like Jacks here because button play is designed to isolate the All In raiser. This play would most often AK, AQ AJ or med pair. It is a goog chance that early raiser has cards that interfear with hands like that taking reducing a race situation to a fair advantage in your favour.

Isolation Plays only work if the binds don't pick up a real hand.

Call. Hope.

I limp in preflop - I do this because if I get reraised I must fold and that quite likely. If he checks we have a better idea what he might hold.

I lead out on this flop, 20K or so - I might have the best hand but if i dont it is probably only to a pair and I still have an over cart and st8 draw plus I can represent if a high card falls on the turn. If i get reraised, a good reraise would almost certainly win it right there unless he had a made St8 or top two pair.

Are we all saying that thereis no place for a smallish raise even with low pairs and suited connectors. It is just a black and white as 3xBB or fold? I think that is ridgid thinking.
4  Poker Forums / Poker Hand Analysis / A good move, unlucky, or overplayed and got what it deserved? on: February 24, 2007, 09:53:41 AM
Live tournament last night at the Cincinnatti club. Down to 18 people blinds are at 800/1600.

The player to my right (20k approx) had on the previous level limped in many times, twice i reraised him and he called the raise quickly. The players to are a mixture of good solid players and some small/med stacks who needed to win a pot soon.

The limper, does what he does, and limps in first pos. I look down at  , I have 41k which is a fairly big stack with no one in the tournament with a whole lot more. I called the blind hoping to get some action behind me.

A solid player with big stack of 45k raises it up by 4k, the limper calls and I raise it up by 16k. Solid player is totaly surprised, eventually raising by 16k and I go all in for an other 5k. Pot now close to 90k, and the solid player looks genuinely buffuddled as I turn over my queens to his .

First two cards out are both aces to leave me drawing dead.

A good move, unlucky, or overplayed and got what it deserved?

Why did you raise it 7/8 of the pot with an over pair?
What was your thinking here? Did you want it to look like an continuation bet on a rag flop or did you just want to take the pot down early and have a wee rest? Did the fact you had a 1000 out there sway your decision?

I would guess he may have had the 78 here with the river 6 giving you two better pairs. That fits the betting.

This hand screams trips. At the outside KQ. For you to win He would have set up a bluff very very quickly or be a poor player who could call of all his money with just one pair.
A swearing tastic fold for me

I think we know that we are losing to  55, 77, 63 & 68 but we are in the lead to 66, 88, 57, AA, KK and a few other unlikely hands. We still have out if he has the made st8.
All adds up to seeing at least another card here, if not all in.

Many thing can happen in a poker tournament but when it comes down the the critical point, getting 50:50 on a position where you would get first or second prize money is too hard to turn down.
A fold only keeps you in the game, a call will make the real money.
10  Poker Forums / Poker Hand Analysis / Was i out played or just unlucky? When to defend for the Big Blind on: June 27, 2006, 02:35:43 PM
A problem moment for me is always muliple limper and then you look down a good hand but not a powerhous in the big blind.
What to do? Check and disguise the strenghth of you hand but get no information on possible slow playing or raise it up and hope to take the pot right there.

Last night i fell foul of this sticky wicket again.

Just moved tables in a live tournament in the Cincinnati Club in thwe know out stage with a good stack of chips. Got a hand in the big blind tried to bully and lost about 5K when i did not hit.

The very next time i have my big blind this is the senareo

I have approx 9,000 chips, blinds 200/400, seven handed

Limp from pos. 2, 3, 6 and i look down at  so i raise it up 2,000 and get two callers from pos. 2 and 3. pot now approx 8,000.

flop comes  I think for a moment (telling myself well you've hit your ace what else where you hoping for when you played ace ten) then push all in for my remaining 7,000.

To my dismay i get called by position pos. 2 who has an unbelievable holding of reducing what started out, i thought as strong holding in the big blind to just two measly outs. The flush hit on the river

Was i destined to lose a lot of money on this hand, or just played well?

I think i was using the fact i covered both oppenents in chips to make the decision easier. Either the had top pair or could not call and even if they do mathamatically i am ahead and if i hit either or both dump alot of chips to me.
In this case she had it and i didn't hit.
12  Poker Forums / Poker Hand Analysis / Re: Flopped Quads - Check or bet the River here? on: June 26, 2006, 07:46:00 PM
Another thing to remember is that in this case you have position on him, this naturally will curb his aggession and he will normally let you take the lead in the hand for him to react.
If you don't bet out he will be getting away cheeply unless you get lucky again and the cards fall to give him such a hand that he will bet out.

I flopped quad the other day in a live tournament, but in this case i was out of position and here a check was followed by a nice bet by my opponent. I was able to give it the old squirm before calling and eventually cleaned him out.

In your case you did all you could.

Playing the final two tables of a live tournament, I a large chip leader with about 60,000 chips.

Blinds 800/1600

  big blind

Linda (30,000) Raises 1600, Eddie (40,000) calls

I call as i am getting 5-1 even though i know its a loose call.

Flop comes  three diamonds

I like the flop as i have a flush and inside straight draw and an over card to the flop giving me 15 outs to a pair on the board but i am first to speak.

After some thought i go all in, Linda calls with  , Eddie folds, none of my cards hit and my stack is halved.

Was this a bad play?
