How is the Initial waiver order for next season determined. Is it draft order or reverse draft order? Or something else?

Ta

This is done purely on last season's finish positions, in reverse order, so is slightly different to the draft order which is designed to encourage teams to stay competitive in the post-season.

So, the initial waiver order will be as follows, when eventually set:
1  Stevef31
2  KarmaDope
3  the sicilian
4  ChipRich/LeKnave
5  Ironside
6  ForthThistle
7  Sheriff Fatman
8  Tal
9  TightEnd
10  bobby1

Everyone's rosters should now be updated to reflect their chosen keeper lists, and you should be able to move players around on your own roster.

bobby1 and Ironside need to process the Kamara trade please.

And just to confirm that #freejoshgordon are on the clock at 1.01 and their clock will expire at 4pm tomorrow (7pm start, 4 hrs available to 11pm, pause until 8am, then the remaining 8 hrs are available)

we cannot set tentative line ups yet. helps organise a roster. is this because we need to conduct a draft first?

I need to conduct a 'draft' on the site, which reflects the cut-down squads of 30 for each team (the site treats these 30 man rosters as having been drafted, so they ultimately create a very odd looking draft list).  It's the next job on the list for this evening, so should hopefully be a very short-term issue.

Below are some various admin bits, mostly repeats of things from previous seasons, but brought forward for easy reference.  Hopefully, it includes all the draft related stuff for Steve, but please shout if any queries.

Draft Timings and Deadlines
Deadlines will work as per last year's system, which worked pretty well overall.  Timings will be determined by the blonde site's timestamp on posts, if any issues.  Pick 1.01 will be on the clock from 7pm this evening which, with the overnight break, should allow sufficient time for everyone to catch up.

"In an attempt to try to keep the draft moving along a little more quickly, I'm proposing a change to the draft timings.  Rather than give everyone 24 hours to complete each pick, my suggestion would be to allow a 12 hour window for each pick, but with the clock not running between 11pm and 8am each day (so essentially, someone would have 20 hours available if the time ran into this period).  People would still be free to make picks in this time, but the 12hr clock wouldn't kick in for the next person until 8am the following morning, giving that person until 8pm to make a pick."

If anyone misses the deadline for their pick, the clock will move onto the next pick in the draft.  Anyone with a missed pick can make this up at any time by posting their pick on the thread, but this will not undo any picks that have taken place in the interim (i.e. you can't suddenly decide that you wanted the player(s) that were chosen ahead of you.

One new rule I'm adding for this year, due to a controversy from last season which I've just also re-lived is that a single 12 hour limit (still allowing for the overnight shutdown) will apply once the draft has reached a single person remaining (i.e. when the other 9 managers have opted out) for that person to make any remaining picks.  There will not be a rollover of pick limits (i.e. 12 plus 12 plus 12, etc).

Opting out of further draft picks
Managers can opt out of making further draft picks by declaring themselves "Done" when they're on the clock for a pick.  This is a one-shot deal, so you can't skip a round and opt back in later.  Once you've declared yourself done, that's it for this year.

Please only do this when you are on the clock for a pick that you've not yet made, as having a load of upcoming picks suddenly disappear potentially impacts strategy for other managers.  In particular, please try and avoid making a pick and then declaring yourself done for the following round.  I understand that this is well-intentioned, but still potentially gives someone, somewhere an advantage.  Declaring yourself done when you are not on the clock is the major no-no I want to avoid (not that this has been a historical issue for us) and anyone doing so will forfeit the equivalent round pick in next year's draft as a penalty.

Trades
Please declare all trades on the blonde thread, with the other manager subsequently confirming their agreement to the details as a reply.  Please then go ahead and process the trades via Yahoo, afterwards (once the site is opened up to enable this).  The blonde post takes precedence, as there is potential for the site details to be messed up (which myself or Tal can subsequently fix, if necessary).  Please be very clear on the thread as to which year's picks are involved to avoid any doubt.

A reminder too that the picks you can trade on the Yahoo site will be 2021 picks, as the site thinks the 2020 draft has happened once you get access to your rosters.  Regardless of players involved in the trade, Yahoo requires an even number of draft picks to be used in its transactions, so please use the late round picks for this purpose (round 30 first, then round 29, etc).

Post Draft & Free Agency
The draft is only open for the pickup of NFL rookies (if in doubt, Google them, as there's no flag to show this).  Everyone else, including players dropped from rosters, only become available afterwards.

Your annual reminder that the end of the draft does not immediately signal the start of a free for all for free agent picks (looking at you, Adam!).  The only transactions that should be happening on the Yahoo site until I announce otherwise, are your draft picks (done as a free agent pick up, with a player being dropped if necessary), agreed trades and roster cuts down to 30 (if necessary, although I should be able to sort these directly).

Once all draft picks are processed (for which I will set a deadline to get this done, if needed, so that it's not left to us to decide who you are dropping), I then need to mess around with the site settings to create an initial round of post-draft waivers.  This gives everyone a fair shot at pick ups of anyone remaining prior to a free for all afterwards.

Also, your 2nd annual reminder, that I then need to play around with the settings after these waivers to set everything back to normal and I will announce a time in advance for when the free agency free for all can begin.  To avoid any work clashes (hopefully) this will be at 9pm on a date to be confirmed.  The only thing I don't know is the date.  If the draft is particularly efficient, there may be a deliberate delay in this happening until final cuts have been made by NFL teams.  Please keep an eye out for announcements regarding this as we reach the end of the draft.

Please shout if any outstanding queries regarding the draft process.  I'll dig out more general rules at a later stage.

Divisions, matchups, waivers, etc
Part of my pre-season process on the site is to randomise the two divisions, sort out the matchups (ensuring 2 inter-divisional fixtures with each team, etc, as the default ones don't do this) and fixing the waiver order ahead of the waivers taking place (each pickup done for the draft changes this, so they can only be corrected at the end).  Again, I'll confirm when each of these are done.

My trawl through the thread ultimately matched to Yahoo's list of traded picks (reliving the back and forth on bobby1's and Ironside's 4th rounders was an experience, to say the least).  It also matched to the various "I think I have..." posts in recent days too, so looks to be accurate.  The only thing that Yahoo doesn't have a record of is the recent trade for Alvin Kamara, which is reflected in the list below (bobby1 and Ironside again!).

There's also a memo note below of a 2021 trade pick from last season (yes, really!) so this is the official list, unless anyone can find anything wrong with it (go on, I dare you!!)  I've done it by blonde user name, expecting half the league to have changed team names, and it should hopefully make things easier for Steve to follow everything.

More odds and sods to follow, but this is the main bit of outstanding info required.

When does the draft start?

Just about to deep dive into the history to produce a full draft order including trades (planned to do this yesterday, failed!)  I suggest we kick off drafting at 7pm tonight, and use the same clock as last year (from memory, 12 hours to make picks but with a shutdown overnight).  I'll post more guidance ahead of 7pm.

Draft order and team listings are as follows.

MattyHollis has been inactive on the forum since November 2019, and those posts at the time were with regard to his inactivity in the league.  The team was essentially abandoned last season, and it caused some issues within the league, so it's in the best interests of the league that a new manager takes over for this season.

We exhausted the original waiting list last season, so next in line is Stevef31, who's a mate of bobby1's and who showed interest in the DLeague a while back.  Next in line for any vacant spots would be bergeroo.  Apologies to him for not being able to accommodate him straight away.

I'll send an invite to our new guy via Yahoo.  He's already posted on the thread, I believe, but I don't think he's yet seen the team he's about to adopt.

The entry fee will remain at £20, and I'll send bank details to everyone.  Given the short-notice to the draft starting on Monday, I'm relaxed about receiving this after it has started.  I'll get more time to dig around the rosters over the weekend and confirm the number of drops required from rosters, etc to get the season to properly start.  If you can plan ahead as to who you want to drop to get to 30 initially, that will help me, but don't forget that you'll then need to drop someone for every pick you make in the draft (I don't need details of these yet, as we'll sort out the draft on-site as we go along).

Any news Curtis?

If we get started in 5-6 days and it takes us 10-14 days to complete the draft we are going to be around the start of September.

At the moment the squads are still empty and we then need to get them down to 30 by listing the players we don’t want to keep so even 5-6 days looks optimistic at the moment.

I suggest we start from Monday morning.  The squad reductions can take place while we're drafting, if necessary, as the system doesn't recognise our actual draft as 'the draft'.  Drafting is mostly done here, so the actual pickups can take place afterwards once the rosters are trimmed down.

Will post draft order and confirm teams this evening.

Hey all,

Thanks to everyone for playing this season. Over the next few days I'll collate the list of prize winners, post them in this thread and contact the winners for preferred payment method (bank or paypal).

In the meantime, if you know you've won a prize please feel free to cut out this step by contacting me yourself - and thanks to those who've already done so.

I haven't decided if I'm going to continue to run the leagues again next season, both due to the time involved and the start of next season being very awkward work wise for me, as it falls during WCOOP.

If there is anyone out there who wants to take over running the leagues, please DM me or make your interest known in this thread.

Thank you for going above and beyond in your efforts this season.

I hope they can run again in some form, but would completely understand if you choose not to do it.  You've set a very high bar to be followed, if that's the case.

Tbh with no pre season games this season and still no final Deadline Date that players have to choose to opt out of the season I fancy we might be better off waiting with the D league draft.

Damien Williams has chosen to opt out of the season tonight leaving A hole at RB for Kansas behind CEH.  Devin Funchess opted out last night Leaving the Packers without their new WR. There have been plenty of decent D players opting out already too.

I’m not sure there is a lot to gain by drafting when we don’t  yet know what the full list of players still in the league this season will be for at least another week or so.

If Ronald Jones chose to opt out then Vaughan becomes a more valuable D league player . If someone drafts Vaughan this weekend and he decided to Opt out then he’s  almost worthless at his current draft position.

It just feels like too many unknowns with almost 6 weeks til the first game to draft with this level of uncertainty around.

Hi All

Part of the delay in doing anything relates to the issues the bobby1 mentions here.  I've been trying to evaluate how to address this within our league, as it is going to have the potential to mess up rosters disproportionately.

One league I'm part of, which drafted a few weeks ago, have added an extra IR slot to their structure.  We already use the full quota on Yahoo so there's no additional allowance for this (unless they build it in going forward).

The best solution I can think of so far is some sort of allowance where opted-out players can be dropped for this season and replaced, and then picked up again in the following year.  However, this in itself would cause complications depending on whether you had to pick up the dropped player, or it was optional, etc.

The situation is evolving quite rapidly at the moment, so the natural instinct is to delay the draft until as late as possible, albeit we need to have sufficient time for our process to complete over the course of several days.

How did you get on Curtis?

Push everything I advised earlier back by a week, as currently snowed under at work.

Hi All

I'll do a catch up of the DLeague over the weekend and get things in motion for the draft to start ASAP, ideally next weekend if feasible.

Landscape, if it fits.  Sometimes a little squashing does the job.

If not, I whinge loudly and do portrait, then whinge loudly again as I turn it over on setting one to do the top bit, and invariably burn a section in the middle.

RIP Carl Reiner, aged 98.

Probably recognisable to many as Saul in the Ocean's 11 series with George Clooney and co, but his collaborations with Steve Martin produced some of the funniest films I've seen.  How's this for a portfolio?

The Jerk
Dead Men Don't Wear Plaid (genius use of old film footage to make a standalone story)
The Man With Two Brains
All Of Me

Good friends with Mel Brookes, another legend, and his son, Rob, was responsible for This Is Spinal Tap.

Not a bad CV to leave behind, IMO.
