706  Poker Forums / The Rail / Any blondes going to come up a day early for the APAT? on: January 25, 2007, 01:51:24 PM
If any blondes fluke it through the click-fest, or win a satellite, how about coming up to Bristol (pretty darn close to Cardiff) a day early for some more poker?

I'm thinking of arranging a game for members of Bristol Poker Meetup and London Poker Meetup members who qualify for the APAT. A kind of pre APAT tourney, probably something like a double chance freezeout (£30 maybe?)

Would any blondes who think they might be playing the APAT, be interested in travelling up the night before to take part in somethng like this?

If I can have a rough idea of numbers, I'll look into sorting a venue out...

Edit: hope it's okay to link to those two sites above - they are non-profit making Smiley
707  Poker Forums / The Rail / Re: Stupid size bets on: January 25, 2007, 08:51:26 AM
I like to bet 0.01 less than the opponent has, then vow to myself to check/call till the end unless I have Straight Flush+

It's what I do to induce the worst bubble value raises and bubble value bets in the history of mankind.

It makes me feel big and clever
Lol, I do this too. It's an awesome tactic Smiley

If they go all-in over the top for their last 0.01 then I use my full time clock before calling.

He got 4500 i think, i went out just before the final, largely down to pete ATo busting my AA! I wasn't too bothered though, he won with class.
Thanks. That's a great result. Congrats in winning your event the other day too btw Smiley

Maybe we can play Earls Court Roll?  Wink

OK i am there! Never pass up a chance to play Roll with Matt, valooooooo
Would be cool to see you down there. I'll make sure I bring a roll, and some cards Smiley PM me your phone number, and I'll give you a call on Wednesday afternoon.

Only messing i wont be there, festival on in brighton! Should drag yourself down here.

A bit off topic: I hear Pete "The Proffessor" Singleton chopped first place in one of the events. Did he chop this with you Flushie? If he did, how much was it?
lol windup merchant, i know you saw him today!

Lol, as if I'd try to wind you up Wink

I didn't see Pete today, although I was supposed to... Unfortunately in the pursuit of straighter teeth I had a brace fitted (last Wednesday) to straighten 'em up. Being a bit vain I went for an invisible one that goes behind the teeth... So, okay, you can't see it. But, jeeez it hurts. It's ripped my tongue to shreds. I can't talk, can't eat, and worse yet - can't drink any beer!!! Sad

So, I didn't go down in the end. Shame, as was looking forward to the party tonight Sad

Pete emailed me this morning to say that he chopped 1st place and that he'd met you too. He didn't say who he'd chopped with, or how much it was for...

The fact that it was 10 days and not a matter of hours points to it being a flaw in procedure rather than malicious intent. Like I said way back in the thread, if it was routine to check kennels, as it is to check cells, then the oversight of any single officer wouldn't lead to a similar outcome.

I don't believe the officer should lose his/her job over this unless we're going to start applying the same standards across the board. May work on a theoretical level but not in the real world.

btw. I didn't think AndrewT's analogy with the mass slaughter of animals was silly at all. Far from it, smells of double standards and hypocrisy to say that an honest mistake should lead to someone losing their job/facing criminal charges and social stigma while munching on a mouthful of carcas.

True, I always find it a little puzzling that a lot of animal lovers also love to eat meat, and aren't bothered whether they eat free range eggs etc. I've been a veggie ever since I was 10, due to the cruel methods in factory farming etc - though that's another discussion altogether.

I think if animals are killed humanely in the name for food, then that's a different thing altogether than allowing an animal to starve to death in agony. There is no purpose behind the latter whereas at least the former is providing a 'use'...?

Get one of these for your home game.

I played on one of these at the Ladbrokes casino in London. One problem was that when two players were all in (in a cash game) it automatically flipped their cards.

One nice touch was that when everyone folded to a bet you had the option of showing both cards or just one card. I wish more online poker rooms had this option.

Like londonpokergirl though, I prefer to play with read cards/chips.

Edit: speeling

Congrats to Tikay and all the others who have given up smoking! It really is a pointless exercise. I used to smoke between 5 and 10 a day, but have now given up buying my own Wink Now I smoke about 2 to 3 (4 max) on a night out where beer is involved and 0 when no beer is involved.

I wish I could cut out the beer fags. Not sure how to do this though... I found nicotine gum helped with the day-to-day fags.. Maybe I should take some of that along with me when I'm on the booze, and chew a bit of that, instead of trying to cadge a ciggy..?

Anyway, congrats again to those who have succeeded. Keep it up!! Smiley

This seems like a protocol error rather than anything malicious.

In cases where owners have intentionally mistreated and abused their dogs, punishing these people for their cruelty is right. This is a far cry from that situation though. It's a sad situation that the dog died but the nature of some of the responses suggesting retribution are ridiculous.

Update procedures so that measures are in place and punish any officers whose negligence led to this APPROPRIATELY  to ensure this doesn't happen again.
Isn't this what everyone who has posted is calling for above? In this case, it would appear to be appropriate that whoever is utimately responsible for this loses their job. I don't see that as ridiculous.

I watched this tonight and thought it was pretty entertaining. Didn't seem to have the shock 'gambling is evil' style of many other programmes of this type. Though I think maybe episode 3 is dedicated to addictive gambling?

Is railparade14 Neville Southall's online poker name?

'Someone has to pay for this' is overly aggressive language - this suggests revenge, which is not the correct basis for a justice system.
Fair enough. It does appear to be clumsily phrased by me.

I agree that revenge is a poor basis for a justice system, and certainly don't believe in 'an eye for an eye', no matter how insidious the crime.

I guess I was angered so much by the story that I didn't keep my tongue in check. Will re-check my posts before submitting next time to ensure that I am getting the correct meaning across and not using overly emotive language.

I disagree with you here. Although it may be an 'honest' mistake, it is police incompetence that has lead for this to happen. Someone has to pay for this. As someone posted earlier, what would happen if they locked a human up and forgot about him/her, causing them to die a slow painful death of starvation/dehydration. I don't think the 'honest mistake' excuse would wash there.

This phrase suggests retribution is your motive - what do you suggest?
Not sure what you mean by that. Are you suggesting that nothing is done at all?

What I'm saying is that someone should be brought to account for what happened. If someone simply has their wrists slapped, or worse still, nothing at all is done, then what message does that give?

It looks like there's a lesson to be learned with regard to procedures and the checking of kennels etc. on a daily basis. This is a sad case but I don't think there was any intent. Looks like the officer made an honest error (for whatever reason) that led to terrible consequences. As a result, I wouldn't want him/her sacked or brought before the law.

It does seem strange to me also that Snoops and some other posters on this thread have had had little or no interaction with gay people before... Maybe it's different up north!

I used to be heavily into the rave/trance scene disco (still go occassionally) and used to have quite a few gay/bi friends, though as my love for trance/psytrance has waned (replaced with too much poker!), I've lost touch with most now. In Bristol the best gay club - Castro's - doesn't play Kylie crap, instead it's full on trance/hard house. Top stuff. I've had many a good night travelling from Lakota to Castro's at 6am (as it was the only place open at that crazy hour) and partying straight through until 12pm.

Getting too old for all that now though!  bad beat yawn

About the Japenese clubbers facing the - what type of music was that? In psytrance, hard house, etc, the clubbers tend to face the wherever on the planet you are...  In clubs where they play Kylie and chart hits, I guess people tend to dance in groups more, as it's more about the 'pulling' aspect than the music itself...
