16  Poker Forums / The Rail / Re: Vegas Trip Information for anyone looking to go this year. on: May 23, 2014, 03:43:11 PM
Hi guys

Travelling next week and hoping to play as much of the series as I can. Just a few questions with regard to money that I'm hoping someone can answer for me.

I'm aware of the $10k cash limit to take over, but unless I have a nice early score, chances are this won't be nearly enough. What do people do with regard to making sure they will have enough for buy-ins? Do people wire money to the Rio in advance? Is loading up one of these pre-paid currency cards an option? If so, can these be used for buy-ins? Any other decent options?

What do I need to do to avoid paying tax on any winnings? It says on the WSOP site that foreign residents of US tax treaty countries need to provide an individual tax identification number. Is this just basically a National Insurance number?

How are winnings paid out? Cash will obv be an issue to get back to the UK. Do they give out cheques or pay directly to your bank account?

Sorry if these are pretty noob questions or if it's all already been covered. I have read some of the thread but I didn't fancy trawling through 160-odd pages Smiley

Is it unethical to knowingly sell at a higher markup than ones ROI? I don't think I've ever done it but occasionally see threads here (and very often see threads on 2+2) where people are either deluding themselves or taking advantage of the fact that they're popular. I'm all for market decides price and all that but not sure that entirely sits well with me.

You're missing a couple of key points here. Firstly, expected ROI is going to be higher in a SCOOP than in a normal event. Secondly, this is even more the case in a non-holdem game such as PLO8. Do I think this justifies the player in question charging a 1.3 mark-up? IMO it's questionable, but that's between the player and his backers. Do I think it's possible that a player can charge more than his long-term ROI for a one-off event such as a SCOOP in theory - absolutely.

The concept of auctions completely turns me off tbh. Not saying it's not a fair way of doing things. I just like to think that when I buy action off someone I'm helping them out in some way (obv it's great if I get a good deal too but I've backed people in the past at what I'd consider roughly neutral ev because I like them and they're going through a tough time etc). I wouldn't like to feel that had been thrown back in my face by being outbid.

Liking these changes. I may even get there for the start of this one, what with the antes being in from the off.

My only possible concern is that the combination of antes from the start, shorter handed play and deeper stacks later on gives such and advantage to the better players it might drive away the recreational players in the long-term.

Playing the lot (subject to deep runs obv).

Just a suggestion - if DTD are worried about numbers why not throw in an online day 1c? Pretty sure no one would object..
