Twister
Star Wars Eps 1
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
Striptease
Garfield 2

Eternal Sunshine... stands out as being completely out of place on this list - a genius film from a genius script writer I think you'll find.

And it has Kate Winslet in it.

What are all the \\\ for?

As for bad films, 'Chain Reaction' with Keanu Reeves was really really bad, even with the special effects and on the big screen - http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0115857/.

But shortly afterwards got pipped to the post as the worst film I've ever seen by Pammies, 'Barb Wire' - http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0115624/.

I've fairly successfully avoided really bad films since then, so these two are still the top of my 'so bad they've gone beyond being so bad they're good and come round full circle to being just bad again list'.

I was asleep after 10 minutes.

Remind me why it was so good?

I started off watching the film thinking that it had brilliant characterization, it took a while to realise that was all there was and their was no actual err... plot, as such. But it did it so well that I like it. Possibly summing up what's so good and what's so bad about it?

Perhaps I missed the good bits when I was asleep?

Just out of interest, what made it so bad?

I have heard it described as being one of those films you either love or hate. I think it's great but of the group I went to see it with when it came out the other 3 all hated it
5677  Poker Forums / The Rail / Re: Computer Problems - Can Any1 Help on: July 24, 2006, 11:55:24 AM
I had the exact same message on the computers at work a few months ago (different number of problems it claimed to find).

What was amusing was that we had just replaced all the computers that morning, so it was claiming to find these errors on a literally brand new computer!  Cheesy

The problem with the WSOP is simply one of size - there are too many players. If you have 2000 players, but want them all to have good starting stacks and a good structure, it's going to take days to get a winner. The entry fees for all the Holdem events should be increased simply to limit the numbers.

I think this response is very much in line with many of the players. Harrah's must somehow ignore the desire for more and more players , and focus more on simply trying to offer the players what they want. Who knows, they may wellbenefit in the longer term.  Either way, something has to change!

I understand Harrah's need to make money from the World Series, and hence their preference for more and more players, but it needs someone there to see that even in business terms this is being shortsighted.

If one of their executives could look beyond their next bonus, and look at the long term future of the company, they might realise that the heritage that the WSOP is currently trading on is going to look less and less important the longer the current situation continues. In ten, twenty or thirty years time the origin of the festival is going to be overshadowed by the decades of mismanagement that we have started to see since the explosion of internet poker and corresponding size of the field in the Main Event. In this circumstance a rival of the World Series is likely to take over as the premier event of the year - this is likely to lead to the winner of that event being known as the World Champion. This will, ironically, lead to the WSOP field reducing as players abandon it for the more desirable event - and there goes Harrah's cash cow.

Boxing shows that multiple World Champions are viable in a sport, but it also shows that some have more respect and integrity than others. If Harrah's doesn't want their gilt edged poker festival becoming tarnished and undermined in decades to come they have to do something about it now whilst they still have the goodwill. If the organisation and structure can be upgraded to truly World Championship standards - and maintained - there is no reason why it should ever truly be challenged, and consequently Harrah's will maintain their revenue stream from it in perpetuity.

Incidentally www.bls.gov has an inflation calculator which tells me that $10,000 in 1972 has the same buying power as $48,540 now (about $50k then).
Hmmm I'm sure there's some conclusion that could be made from that.   Cheesy

Agreed, I've seen so many people call big raises like this just because they've got a pocket pair.

It's definitely going to cost all your chips to get to the showdown, so why risk your entire tournament for such a narrow margin?

Obviously the temptation to make some quick chips is there, but I'd peg this as a disciplined laydown.

First hand is always tricky.

I personally would have bet more pre-flop, but with an all in and a call I would expect one of them to have to have flopped  2 pair at least so I agree with the fold there.

So my way I would have just lost more chips.

Alton Towers - does this involve going outside ? I don't think I could handle that tbh.

What does JCB stand for ?

JCB is named after the founder, J C Bamford.

Surely - Joseph Cyril Bamford

Unless you're claiming that J stands for J and C stands for C?   Cheesy

You didn't say whether they bet before the pot?
5684  Poker Forums / The Rail / Re: The changing face of poker, but the same old traditions - very long on: July 21, 2006, 03:42:12 PM
If people want to bring up tradition, then surely the biggest and most important tradition of all is that the Main Event is there to find the best poker player in the world.

A modified shoot out would address some of the negative aspects - but it would make it an even longer tournament. The only way I could see this working would be the other big idea to decrease the luck factor which is to decrease the number of entrants. Increasing the entry cost is a popular option, and a price freeze for that many years without any accounting for inflation does seem faintly absurd. However the thousands of sponsored entries from poker sites surely gives  a much more controllable medium?

My only chance of entering the WSOP would be from winning a satellite, but if it meant giving up this chance so that the WSOP main event was to maintain it's integrity then I'd be happy with that.
