Theirs talk that Tiger could get disqualified because of where he dropped his Ball on the 15th.

It's an interesting one....http://www.wusa9.com/news/article/254290/25/Could-Tiger-Woods-Be-Disqualified-From-The-Masters

Drifting on betfair.

This is bullshit. He dropped it in line directly back from the point it crossed the hazard. Yes it was two yards back from his previous shot but that is permitted. It looked weird at the time but its fine. Press just being alarmist.

BUMPED.

Greg is currently AWOL, watching, would you believe, Mansfield Town FC. Each to their own, eh?

He himself acknowledged he didn't drop it back from where it crossed the hazard but from two yards back from where he took the original shot. If he had taken it back on a line from where it crossed the hazard (as Fuyrk did) there would have been no issue. He actually hung himself in his post round interview as he admitted moving two yards back from the original spot of the ball to give himself a better yardage. The rule is that he must drop it as close as possible to the original spot of the ball; clearly two yards away isnt as close as possible. It's a shame that its happened to one of the greats but he has to go as anyone else would.

Ironically when questioned on the Guan penalty yesterday Tiger replied 'rules are rules'.

I agree with Moon. The rules of golf may be archaic but they have always been followed to the letter at all times. If they decide to let this go because its Tiger and because its the Masters, it would be a complete farce and do way more harm than good to the game IMO. He has to get 'd.

Even the commentators asking (verbatim) 'just one question, why don't the Sunrisers want to win this?'. Very suspect.

IPL Day 9 update:

Yesterday was definitely more positive than negative, despite our man Owais not getting a game. His team Rajasthan lost to our boys Pune, which will hopefully prompt a chance in selection. This seems even more likely given one of their overseas players Kusal Perera got a golden duck. Pune again neglected to pick Luke Wright so he made no headway and Eoin Morgan only did marginally better recording 2 in his innings during Kolkata's defeat to Bangalore.

Pune's win snapped an 11 game losing streak so hopefully they'll push on from here and get on a winning streak. Definitely got the talent in the squad to beat most team.

Today's game sees Delhi against The Sunrisers of Hydrabad and we've got the Sunrisers to get the job done. I can't disagree as the depleted Daredevils are in disarray. They are missing key players in every department and have lost their first three games, turning in meek performances. The bookies seemed to have priced them on former glories so we're getting the best of it.

Shah left out again but on the plus side, one o the guys they picked over him just went first ball saw RR are 0/1. Pune left out Wright and Eoin Morgan only scored 2 today so we're still not in bad shape despite three non appearances. Let's hope Pune do the business now.

IPL Day 8:

Yesterday's game saw the Kings XI downed by the Super Kings who registered an impressive 10 wicket win. The only direct impact on our bets was Azhar Mahmood's 8 runs which leaves the top English batsman table looking like this after two games apiece -

Morgan - 67
Mahmood - 8
Shah - 0
Wright - 0

Morgan, Shah and Wright all have the chance to play today (Morgan has been named as a starter already) so we could see some movement. Morgan's Kolkata team have just got underway against the Royal Challenger. His score is really our only interest in that game. However, in the afternoon game out boys Pune attempt to arrest a 10 game losing streak when they meet the Royals. It'd be nice if Rajasthan did us a favour and gave Shah a spin bit I have a feeling they might stick with a winning team. A Pune win might convince them to get him in finally.

Laird'd game is more suited to Augusta  and he is a much classier player but last weeks win was his first top 30 of the season and he only broke 70 for one round which was the great 63. Anyone can catch fire for one round but I'd need to see way more to even consider backing him.

Don't just look at scores, look at the toughness of the course.  Laird's scores for the 4 rounds compared to the average score on the day were:

-3.61      -1.16      -3.89      -7.82

So that was one great round, 2 good rounds and an ok round.

Agreed but my point is without that one great round, Laird wouldn't even be here this week. One great round isn't indicative of good form. As an ew backer i'd personally rather see 8 consecutive good rounds than 2 poor ones, 2 ok ones, 2 good ones and two great ones.

I wouldn't touch Points with a barge pole. I'm all for the form argument but sometimes anomalies get thrown up (see Ted Potter Jr winning the Greenbrier last year) and he most certainly is one. He won after missing 7/9 cuts in the season then reverted back to finishing T53 last week. Billy Horschel is a future star and about 100x more talented.

IPL Day 7 update:

Finally some positive IPL news for Fred our outright tip Mumbai dispatched Dehli, having made the year's highest total to date 209/5. It's bodes well for us that this score was put together despite both Ponting and Tendulkar falling before two overs had been completed. Two wins from three now and we are finally rolling in the right direction. The day's other game saw Bangalore pick up the win thanks to a 93* from Virat Kohli which sent him to 2nd in the most runs table. Dinesh Karthik currently leads the way with 183 from three games while Marlon Samuels has just with runs from two games. A bit behind the 8ball there.

Today's game features Azhar Mahmood's Kings XI against pre-tourn favourites Chennai. Last time out Mahmood wasn't required to bat but Chennai are stronger so we might need to get our anti-sweat on.

Cheers moon, I was being lazy there. Too late for me to be doing any form of maths haha. Interesting discussion for sure.

I think E/W is bad value as tiger does not place often enough! let me explain...
Tiger has played 298 pga tour events winning 77 of them finising 2nd 28 times and 3rd on 19 occasions according to pga tour.com i dont know how often he has finished 4th or 5th but he has 180 top tens which include the wins and 2nds etc this ratio would suggest he is almost more likely to win than have a non winning place so why would you take 6/4 on him finishing 1-5 when when he does finish top 5 most of the time he wins and you can get 6/1 for him to finish 1st?

lets say he wins 50% of the time that he is top 5 (not an unreasonable assumption given his history) and your choices are £100 E/W or £200 win @ 6/1
so when he places you return either 250 or zero.
when he wins you return 950 or 1400.

your EV when you place the win bet is £700 every time tiger places.
your EV when you bet E/W is £600 every time tiger places.

I REALLY think i am right but mr Channing may prove me wrong but on this very rare occasion i dont think he will.

I'll pad out some stats - Tigers has played the Masters 18 times - 16 times as a professional. Discounting the 2 times he played it as an am, he has 12 top 10s, 4 of which were wins (only one of which was outside the top 6). Assuming a static price of 5/1, backing him which way makes most profit?

IPL day 6 update:

Yesterday was not a great day for us in the top Englishman stakes. Not only did Rajasthan not pick Shah again but the man who he appears to be in competition with for a place in the side, Brad Hodge, performed well and the Royals won. On top of that Eoin Morgan scored 53 despite being dropped early and getting away with a LBW appeal which should have been given. When will it end?!

Today's games have already kicked off with the Sunrisers posting a respectable 161 against Bangalore. The afternoon game features our Mumbai Indians who come in off the back of a good win against Chennai. The Daredevils are well below strength at present so we really should be expecting a solid win here.

I dont know. The forecast for Thursday gives a 40% chance of rain from 10am - 8pm with cloud cover and low humidity all day. I don't think there will be a big scoring bias between the early and late starters that day.

Friday has a 40% chance of rain til 8am then 10% there after. Seems to be a decent winds for most of the day so should dry out pretty quickly. Can't see it being damp enough for long enough to favour the longer hitters especially.

Bah, Shah omitted again. Best thing to hope for now is Rajasthan getting skittled for about 80 or another Brad Hodge failure. Makes no sense to me.

IPL Day 5 update:

What a contrasting day in the Indian Premier League. The days early game saw the Kings XI stroll to a win with 7.4 overs to spare after Pune's puny 99/9 proved to be about 70 short of par. Pune have started poorly and Marlon Samuels has done the same. On the upside Luke Wright didn't get picked for the second game in a row so he's still on zero runs with a minimum 14 games remaining and Azhar Mahmood didn't bat for the Kings XI either.

Whilst the morning game was short on drama, the evening game was anything but with the Royal Challengers and the Sunrisers playing out just the second 'superover' in IPL history. Dale Steyn managed to shackle Chris Gayle enough to guide the new boys to a second straight win.

Today's game will hopefully give us the chance to see Owais Shah open his account for the tournament as his Royals take on Eoin Morgan's Knight Riders. After one round Morgan was the only qualifying Englishman to pick up a run (14 of them in fact) so it's very much as you were on that front.
