How long did it actually take you to get to the Bahamas?

I've been trying to solve this problem.

I have to move four horses from A to B

Neddy does the journey in 1 hour

Dobbin - 2 hours

Trigger - 4 hours

Lightning - 6 hours

I can only take two horses at a time, and I have to ride one back.

What is the shortest amount of time needed to get all the horses from point A to point B?

You can adapt the puzzle so it uses people.

There is a bridge and a group of people, the bridge is only wide enough for 2 people at once to cross. It is dark, and there is only a single lantern. The people take different amounts of time to cross the bridge: 1 minute, 2 minutes, 4 minutes and 6 minutes. If two people travel at once the crossing will take as long as the slowest person. The people must cross with the lantern and somebody must return with the lantern for others to cross.

The answer is still 13.

[ ] this thread is delivering a suitable gadget fix.

Gadgets I have:

Logitech MX air (the gyroscope mouse Adam was on about)
Sony U50 (tiny tablet PC)
HTC Touch diamond 2 (windows mobile phone)
Elonex cube3 (mp3 stereo and mini TV)
a car PC (custom, complicated, more trouble than it's probably worth!)

Gadgets I want but aren't out yet:

Light Touch http://lightblueoptics.com/products/light-touch/ (I could see this being an alternative to MS surface)
HTC Supersonic
Maybe a Cowon W2 to replace my sony u50

Now, someone post something good I can buy!

Fair point Rich. I'm actually trying to be less of a twat at the poker table hence no complaint when the cash first went over. I'm not convinced it's the way forward for me but I'll keep at it, at least until I lose it lol

Oh, but it's still dodgy and against most house rules. But it happens quite a bit is all I am saying.

You can lend money from your pocket, but money at the table should never be passed from one player to another (either seated at the table or not, but especially if they're seated).  It's ridiculous.

Is that standard at Blackpool? If it is, I'd never play in a game there.

It's standard in a lot of games where the players know each other. I/we do this sort of thing now and again, but if there are players we don't know at the table then someone will have to bite the bullet and get the cash out!

It suits everyone for the loser to be lent the money in the 1st place, but obviously no-one wants him to give it back afterwards. Neither should really be allowed but it keeps the game going and rocking then I would let it slide. Problem is, you can't complain about him giving the money back if you didn't complain about it in the 1st place. It's the same thing.

Too late to get any money from him. And you low has been counterfeited so you might have done someone else out of their share not yourself.

Ah the 'Hitler Rant' has finally made it to a poker forum - all 92 football league clubs have had their 'unique' version so far on their forums     .....     93rd mildly amusing episode!

Not exactly finally... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0Rk050EyaEI

Your laptop will probably have a 15-pin VGA connector on it (a standard monitor plug) rather than a DVI port.

If you TV has the same then it's easy. You need one of those for video, and maybe a 2.5mm to 2xphono for your audio.

You need to look around your laptop and TV for this:

I doubt your TV will have HDMI being 5 years old, but it might have VGA.

If someone throws in 2 x 1000 is there anything wrong in the dealer confirming the action in the case of 200/400 raise to 1200 if there is or can be a doubt?

No. In fact that's probably the sensible thing to do. If someone were to object though then I imagine you'd have to rule it as a call.

So your saying if he throws in 4 x 500 chips its a call as 3 chips is less than 1650

but if he puts in 20 x 100 chips you would make it a raise

not a good rule in my opinion

it is up to a player to protect himself during a hand if he puts in multiple chips and more than 50% on top of the bet then it should be a minraise imo

Using the same 200/400 -> 1200 example...

Putting 4x500 would be a raise. If removal of one chip results in less than the amount to call then it's a call. Removing a chip results in 1500 which is more than the call amount.

It does get a bit daft when you consider the case of putting in 1x1000 and 2x500. To me this is clearly a raise though according to the rule it's only a call as removal of the 1000 chip leaves less than 1200. Maybe the rule should read "removal of one of the lowest denom chips"?

This was all obvious and ridiculous until this last point.....

So if for example, as I often do in a cash game... Someone has bet £30, I can't be bothered to say raise and throw in a £100 chip and a £5 chip to make it (quite clearly and obviously) £105 to go. Removal of the £5 chip makes it a call therefore it's a call, well don't bloody remove my £5 chip then! What's the score with that?

The long run optimum EV play here non opponent specific with these stack sizes is to obv shove everytime. Maximise fold equity and our allin on the flop EV isn't too bad if we get called. That's pretty much the end of it as we don't really know anything about this specific opponent.
I think i like folding better than calling as Cos says it's so exploitable by a thinking opponent. Unless we can be certain oppo switches off all bluffs/non flushes on turns and maybe gives us a free card with weak flushes and is also going to pay us off some of the time when it pairs up calling is just pretty much horrid given stacks.

But what do you do against an inexperienced opponent?
