She's 3 months old (born Valentine's Day), Cockapoo mum, Poodle dad. Picked her up from the farm she was bred on yesterday. I'm absolutely smitten tbh. She's a real pleaser of a dog, stops whatever she shouldn't be doing at a word, shadows you around the house. While I loved Kerry she was a stubborn bitch who wasn't trained right as a pup so life was an ongoing battle at times. We're training Angie from the start, so first time for me (was always Dad). She's sleeping after a walk and a set of zoomies around the back garden right now so this is the best eyes (eye) pic so far: Click to see full-size image. |

Sadly lost my old dog Kerry a couple of weeks back to a brain haemorrhage. She'd a good run, lived to 14 1/2 and active till the day she died, swimming in the river the day before.
So I'm sitting with my new cockapoo Angie, looking forward to training her up.

Does anyone even have access to a mangle these days?
See them at the hand car wash places quite a lot for squeezing out the chamois. Which brings about a question. What's the plural of chamois? I'm guessing same spelling different pronunciation? Is chamois even a word if it isn't followed by 'leather'? No Googling please, I can do that do myself. It's a type of alpine goat which had a very soft leather.

Has anyone ever seen sugar cane for sale before? I haven't. What do you do with it? (Decent answers only please) Never seen it to buy, but you basically chew on it, unsurprisingly tastes like sugar. At primary school many, many years ago, one of the kids in class had a relative bring some back from holiday and she brought it into class to share with everyone Had friends with a patch of it in their garden as a kid, liked to visit as their dad would cut a cane and share it out among us, like Vegalslover says, just tastes of sugar. I know (via the internet) a guy who refined his own sugar from home grown sugar beets, they don't taste as nice as sugar cane from what he said.

I seem to remember reading about a diver cutting his own thumb off because a moray had a hold of it.
He couldn't kill the eel because it was in a hole in the rocks was pulling his thumb into the entrance.
Can imagine it, although I'd have thought a big moray would just have taken it off (there's film of a guy who loses a thumb after feeding sausages to a moray on youtube). My fear was down to watching The Deep way too young and seeing a moray eat a man's head... my folks let me see it because it was filmed in Bermuda & I'd seen some of the filming. Was scared of putting my feet down on the rocks from then on. Strangely, I saw Jaws but wasn't particularly scared of sharks.

Spending a week in Yorkshire this week Red. Stopping in Bainbridge, course I'm on is just over the border in Garsdale in Cumbria. Beautiful countryside, quite like at home. Stayed in the Moorcock last night which reminded me of the pub in American Werewolf in London , out on its own in the moors. Must admit I've always felt at home in Yorkshire, it's like where I'm from in Scotland just a different accent. Already been out helping an old fella start his ancient Leyland tractor, he's left it running while he has a very because "t'auld bugger won't start again if I stop er" What course are you on Rod? Also, sort this out. Curiosity is killing me. "while he has a very....."? Karabiner got it right. I'm terrible at typing on the phone. I'm on a fibre splicing course, was looking at a change of direction in telecoms. Just got a call though offering me a different telecoms job. So the course is just for interest now.

Devon girl, 14, finishes round-Britain sailing trek https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-devon-58294842Great achievement, but how can you claim to have sailed round Britain if you went through the Caledonian Canal (which goes from Inverness to Fort William)? And from my recent trip to Scotland, how can you claim to have climbed Cairngorm if you start from the Ski Station (which is some way up?). I have noticed this in the Lake District too. You can climb this 800m hill from the car park 300m up. Huh? Who decides these things?... and if I want to bag some lazy man Monros and Wainwrights, which have the start points nearest the summits? Definitely not sailed round Britain, but that bit up by Ironsides would have been a bit risky. Re Munros, taking the argument to an extreme should you be starting at sea level? If some are a bit easier fair enough imo. Sorry missed the reply on this, Rod. I am pretty much in agreement on the sailing. I just thought it was odd on Cairngorm, as it would be easy enough to start lower down. With the likes of Everest you really do have to start quite high up, as it is on a high plateau. Am obviously starting Cairngorm from the ski station. if I get the chance in future. Guess claiming a munro from the top of the funicular is a big no no if it ever starts working again. I've never done a munro, done a couple of corbetts but my patch for walking is/was the Southern Uplands, beautiful but not as mountainous.

Did anyone watch the impromptu Brazil training session that they had on the pitch after the match was abandoned? It was brilliant.
On the channel I was watching the cameras kept rolling. It was 10 a side on a half a pitch, two touch. The players seemed like they were having a great time, fantastic skills and no cheating, rolling around or trying to con referees in site. Just fun and the joy of the game. Plus there were three keepers, so one of the back ups played outfield and scored an absolute screamer!
Didn't watch the bounce game but wish I had, saw the keeper's goal & aye, an absolute belter of a goal.
