I didn't do squats this time. I coundnt get on & just stuck to the leg press.

Is using the smith machine a bad idea?

In my opinion, yes. My default if the squat racks were taken would be to hit the leg press. The smith machine takes away the need to engage your stabiliser muscles in the hips and core, and will force you to develop an unusual (unnatural) movement pattern. The leg press doesn't try to mimic the movement pattern of a squat, so while it's definitely an inferior movement and one that I would advocate as an accessory movement rather than a replacement, you won't develop "incorrect" motor functions.

If you are comfortable in your squat, then you can start adding in smith machine squats for accessory to encourage hypertrophy in the quads and glutes.

Almost 2 years later & i can squat properly, granted not very high weights but i can do them without feeling like my hamstrings are going to snap.

Thank you for the advice, i don't post much anymore but i do pop by now & again to see how the strong men are doing.

When you came out the toilets in Vegas and ran into your old teacher I thought you were going to get off with her and was quite surprised/disappointed this didn't happen. Deffo detected a lot of sexual tension in the story.

Open a new current account, stick a lump in it, and use that debit card exclusively for gambling stuff. Then just don't mention it on the mortgage application.

Your main account with salary etc will be clean as a whistle.

I really don't gamble that much anymore, I'm bad at it.  Short term fix for cheltenham!

Hello Tips for Tikay fans

Quick question, due to an ongoing mortgage application i'm wanting to keep gambling transactions to a minimum this year so going to punt with one bookie, can somebody let me know who they think is best value over the 4 days.

"next door" have the daily offer just wondered if anybody who's significantly shrewder than me could point me toward a better place for my mug bets.  I can't use £3.65 or our irish friends Sad

Kind Regards

Chris

365 then the rest I think, unfortunately for you.  Maybe Victor/Satan from memory.  Not sure if Fred/corals are doing 15 min boosts this week.  But they were good too. I would have said Hills too, but they seem to have stopped competing too.

Surely 2 is fine?  Then you could do Shy offer and somebody else.  The Shy offer is fantastic, but they duck a lot especially with extra places.  Obv Shy is great if they are top price and extra places.  Also some of their boosts are good too, though they aren't all.  So maybe Shy is best if you really need to limit yourself to one and don't have 365.  I wouldn't be taking anything too far from best price though.

Much appreciated, got a mate who will load up his 365 account for me so think i'll go for sky/365.

Surely the entrepreneur in you offered to run the failed tuck shop on behalf of the school, for a fee?

I actually had a realy bad relationship with (most of) my teachers...I was a bit of a head-strong know-it-all (polite version) and that irritated them. One of my life's purest moments involved a former teacher 5-6 yrs after I left school.

It was head of year, now we'd always had a bit of friction me and this women she never really liked me then right at the death we had a big blow up, stupid story but kinda funny.

It all began on the last few days of actual school (going in for lessons) when a group of guys I was sort of mates with decided that they were going to print off 200 sheets of paper with "GET YOUR BALLS OUT" written on it, and combine them with water balloons and go "attack" a neighbouring school. When the investigation came round the question was "which pupil has a half red/half grey B-reg ford capri (lol) it was hard enough to argue there was another car like this in the country, let alone that it just so happened to be water-ballooning  a local school in the lunch break... My ONLY connection to this incident was it was my computer password which had printed off all the sheets, I was actually in a class when it happened (20 witnesses+teacher) and when i was pulled in about it was genuinely the first i've heard of it, the other lads quickly confessed and directly added I had zero involvement. All this evidence should have lead to a quick release but I was held (by this women) for 3 hours and afterwards told that a decision on whether I'd be welcome in the leavers ball would be made later.

Right now, I am so fucking angry words can't explains, apoplectic with rage I am abso determined to get my own back, the next day i snuck into the register office, and called EXACTLY 50% of year 7 students to the staff room (nicely doubled with this womens office), caused absolute carnage and near on closed the school for an hour, FUCK WITH LIL DAVE AT YOUR OWN PERIL. Unfortunately one of the kids had a panic attack and that put a damper on the prank, he had to go home. I clearly was trying to get my own back on an injustice not knock out any poor kids, so next day I swiftly wrote an apology letter to the kids family, they responded immediately accepting my apology, case closed.

Now my year head absolutely goes after me, she want's to get me expelled, not sit my exams, and ban me from my own leavers ball.  Anyway we have this meeting with the headmaster (I turned up drunk - was so OVER IT at the point) but luckily my dad was on hand to save the day, the head was like "boys being boys" "don't be such a knob in future please young man" etc and that was sposed to be it over, but then she tried to get the kids parents to put in a formal complaint (they refused and called me to tell me) they tried to ban me from the leavers assembly (who cares) but then the only other guy who could operate the sound/lighting equipment broke his hand so they called me 40 mins before ans asked my to do it, which I did Smiley

Next thing i see this women in weatherspoons (of all places) and she comes up to me and says that I am;

a) A waste of space
b) going to achieve nothing
c) enjoy my stupid life

I responded with

a) I don't need this stupid school
b) I'll show you
c) You're a c**t

Fast forward ~6 years, I'm in Las Vegas, I'm in Tao nightclub, me and my friend Jon both won huge in the same game earlier (I forget exact numbers, I had some pieces out but defo netted personally over £50k, and Jon won over 100$) I'm coming out of the toilets (hammered) and WHO DO I SEE!!!!!!!!!!

That's right.

Two ways to handle such a situation -

option 1. Dignified, humble, grown up.
option 2. None of the above.

My standard in life is defo #1, however after 0.07 seconds of consideration I elected on this occasion for #2.

Finish the story David, you're getting as bad as Red Dog for the cliffhangers.

how are my fellow fatties doing?

I'm still going quite strong, i've had a few events that have resulted in some less healthy choices but nothing too dramatic & still making good progress at the gym.

Doing regular weigh ins which keeps me focused even if it means the odd day where the scales jump up and scare me a touch.

Threads quiet these days, do pop an update on i'm sure it helps other people as much as it does me.

Hey Sov. Hope you're well mate.

That last paragraph is absolutely brilliant in my opinion and shows the value of recording what you've done. Even as you write/type you can see little tweaks that you could've easily made that would improve your ability to reach your goal. These threads are really valuable from that perspective alone even if nobody else reads them. Every now and then I'll read back through the strong thread or my old diary and it's a great reminder of where I've been at certain points.

I think whilst i've only been an occasional poster on here for the last few years its been good to have a look back over this thread & see what i achieved "last time".

With your diet you obviously know where the bad bits are so no need to bang on about that and tell you not to eat wings. As long as you keep losing little bits over time then there's really no need to torture yourself and eat boring stuff. Sustainability is more important, trying to get to your target and then stay there means you need a diet you can stick to so as long as you're not in a rush to hit 90kg then I'd say stay as you are.

Wings are the shit though, the thing i like about them is that i can get them on their own, they feel like i'm cheating but not too much, plus i'm learning a few recipes for drumsticks that are like my beloved wings but not quite as bad.  I will put a recipe up at some point.  I'm really trying to move away from the x kg in y months, more to keep moving in the right direction.  I would like to be 90kg on the 31st of December, but as long as i'm making progress tbh i'm pretty happy.

I have the same issue as you with the dog walks. Used to be a minimum of 4 miles per day plus 8 to 10 Saturday and Sunday but now it's about a mile per day with possibly one slightly longer one once per week. Surprising how many calories difference that makes but fortunately for me my diet is really good and I train pretty hard so it's not been a huge problem.

The difficulty i have with it is more that i didn't really see it like exercise, i loved getting out early doors when nobody was about & walking round the park etc, i've walked to work a few times which is 3miles there & back which was good, & will probably pick that back up as the ice reduces & its a bit warmer

Your training looks good, as with the diet the main thing is to be doing something you enjoy and you're likely to stick with long term. If you're training in your lunch break maybe cut out the run and do some more weights. Pretty sure another 10 minutes of bench pressing will burn more calories than a run and also leave you less sweaty so you don't need to shower before going back. Might give you a chance to do more stuff if you can avoid sweating and skip the shower. Quick squirt of deodorant and you're good to go.

Really appreciate the input on this, my reason for the cardio is i'm a bit worried about my heart.  Might be a bit strange, but i work in the insurance industry & am always reading about heart disease stats, contrary artery bypass grafts & have a had a few family members / friends suffer with heart related conditions so i want to get a run in, might not be the most productive use of my time but sort of enjoy it.  I'm swimming a bit & will be back on the bike later in the year but for now the 10 minute run gives me a little target, to run a bit further to feel a bit less ruined after etc etc.
