31  Poker Forums / The Rail / Re: HSBC closing my acc due to staking transfers?! on: January 18, 2012, 07:14:13 PM
Recently moved to Santander when HSBC wouldn't give me an account, pretty decent so far

Been with HSBC for nigh on 20 years. They've been pretty sh*t with me since I've come back from Germany. Every time I've had an issue I've gone to Santander, who are more welcoming, offer better customer service and better rates all round.

#closinghsbc

you dont hear that said much about santander (worst customer services apparently) but I have found that they are good, and they even gave me £200 to transfer my account as I had a mortgage with them.. £100 if you dont I think

The interesting question (for me), is how would Rafa be getting on with the new owners in charge, rather than having to work under the the previous owners/jokers?

It wont be long!!! before we find out

Don't shop at tescos.

Fill up at shell. I have a shell card which i chose fuel vouchers for instead of air miles. receive around £15 of free fuel per quarter.

Change the reward for avios then ur points automatically get done every month. Also look out for the shel vouchers u get for filling up. Can get loads of free points for handing them in / being savy with them (sounds like you put enough in not to worry about the stipulatons each month to get the extra points)..

Now get yourself a Duo Credit Card, pay off balance every month, and hey presto, a free flight to Vegas every 12 months or so if you use it properly.

Some bonus Avios available if you open an avios account first.. Then add them as different new ways of collecting.. I.e Open an avios account today.. change your reward on ur shell card to avios and in 12 months they will give you 8k free.. Open a Duo Card through avios and use for 12 months another 8k bonus..

Right im done on avios or virgin for now, time to watch the TV.. good luck setting it up, but the points start rolling in once you have done it.. do it sooner rather than later, your going to put some fuel in that car over the next few weeks!!!!

And has a deal with Tescos...

Did not realise that they had joined as well..

Looks like you get 625 Virgin miles and 600 Avios for the same £2.50 ClubCard Voucher, and I think their Credit Card is the same points per £ spent on their respective Amex Cards, and its 50k (Avios or Virgin) to get to Las Vegas so both rewards/schemes are the same except the extra 4% Virgin Miles you get per £2.50 spent using Clubcard Vocuhers

You can also do some online shopping through Avios to get more points..

I think it works out better that if you cannot use a Amex Card (for Avios Duo) that you use a Tesco Clubcard to do spending and then convert to Avios when u get the voucher.. Important.. Make sure you get your tesco clubcard vouchers Quarterly or whatever they send out and not yearly, as they always last ages, but you can get massive bonuses sometimes when u convert so worth waiting sometimes.

Possible even better for you girgy would be having a Lloyds TSB Duo Credit Card (1 Amex and 1 Mastercard for when Amex is not available)..

1 Avios for every £1 spent on Amex  (1 for ever £5 on the mastercard)

Buy Fuel from Shell - 1 Point for every Litre - Can set up account to convert to Avios at a rate of 10 Avios per 20 Litres of Fuel

Tesco Clubcard for Shopping Purposes or if you get the fuel from them instead. Convert Tesco rewards to Air Miles..

Shell Points - 1785 Litres Per Month = 90 Avios Per Month

Credit Card - 2.5k Per Month = 2500 Avios Per Month (All Shell's Accept Amex)  = 2600 Avios per month 31k Per Year Approx plus any shopping done at tesco can be converted into Avios..

Ok, so its contract renewal time and it got me thinking about the best mobile i've ever had and following some long deliberation I have settled on this as my best ever phone

I was the coolest kid in college with this... you could only get it on contract and I managed to get one!  I obviously loved the 5110 and the 3210 but this was by far my best phone.  If only they still made them, i would defo get one.

Post your best ever phone, doesnt need to be nokia although we all know they are the best phone makers ever!

+1 Million this is the best

I think the country should be more worried about the 36,300 home reposessions that occurred in 2010. Many of which had paid years of mortgages, council tax etc, etc and then get shafted due to the shit state of our country's economy.

Struggling with this, any general examples?

A good example is the last government over spending on the Military budget with redic campaigns all over the gaff, then this term cutting 12,000 personnel or whatever the exact figure is. These people have worked, paying council tax, rent or mortgages then depending on when they signed on the dotted line dictating which redundancy package they get. Some of this is enough to support a family for a few months, but many of these are struggling to gain further employment. Apparently the number of ex military in prison has sharply increased as well, numerous factories which have supported generations of families in the Midlands have been shut down as it is more economically viable to outsource from abroard.

Would the struggle to gain further employment be partly due to them believing certain jobs are beneath them?

Highly doubt that, it will be down to the lack of jobs available... lack of funding for further training etc. in this day and age people are happy/willing to do anything to get them and their families by imo. Its not just forces but many NHS staff and civil servants have undergone cuts. Good majority of the public sector. Why so cynical? You think the economy is in a great state and the future is rosie? or because you are doing well then there is no reason everyone else shouldn't be? Don't get your line here

I dont really want to get into the whole global issue etc because I frankly don't know anything, but your statement about lack of jobs is not true (in my case anyway)..

I have in the past 2 months TRIED to employ 3 people who are currently on the dole, on every occasion these people were living at home with no expenses other than day to day life, and after spending countless hours training them they have quit (various reasons, from not worth it to having to work to hard).. Granted it was a bar/restaurant job, but around 30 hours per week..
