I'm on the button with and i'm facing a raise from the fairly short stacked MP1 (actually UTG+1). He's previously folded to a 3 bet from me. So i 3 bet him again, with the intention of calling if he 4 bets. Incidentally, i only noticed afterwards that the original raiser had 4x'd, should this affect my decision at all? Online MTT (PokerStars $4.40) Early stages of the tournament Blinds are 60 / 120 / 15 my opponent is 23 / 20 over 84 hands [converted_hand][hand_history]Poker Stars, $4 Buy-in (60/120 blinds, 15 ante) No Limit Hold'em Tournament, 8 Players Poker Tools Powered By Holdem Manager - The Ultimate Poker Software Suite. UTG+2: 8,122 (67.7 bb) MP1: 2,690 (22.4 bb)MP2: 2,715 (22.6 bb) MP3: 2,355 (19.6 bb) CO: 4,799 (40 bb) Hero (BTN): 5,153 (42.9 bb)SB: 6,018 (50.2 bb) BB: 4,301 (35.8 bb) Preflop: Hero is BTN with T:heart: T:spade: UTG+2 folds, MP1 raises to 480, 3 folds, Hero raises to 1,140, 2 folds, MP1 raises to 2,675 and is all-in, Hero calls 1,535 Just wondering if this is pretty standard or, ere there any better options for me here?

A failure to check is remarkable because the cost of checking is so low: a few seconds of mental work (the problem is moderately difficult), with slightly tensed muscles and dilated pupils, could avoid an embarrassing mistake. Not a poker book...confused.com

Just a quick update for my stakers. Unfortunately i failed to make day 2 in the Blackbelt comp. No excuses really. Played AA less than optimally very early on, pretty card dead for most of the comp, ended up shoving with AQ towards the end of level 11, small blind had AK which held to KO me. Hopefully, i will learn from the experience of these two comps and come back stronger next time around. Great tournament though, so WP to Blackbelt poker for putting on another top event at DTD. Big congratulations to Kevin Williams for taking it down and Well Done to Sam Razavi and Babis , and ALL of the clowns for their generosity in aid of cancer research. Thanks again to everyone that bought a stake.

Hi All, Just a quick update. I managed a little min-cash in the DTD £200 tournament (£400) I have shipped winnings to Dawn and Lewis (Stars) and Tristan (cash at DTD) If everyone else can PM me your details ASAP and i will ship the winnings straight away. I'm happy to send it on Stars, Bank Transfer or Blackbelt, whatever you all prefer. (pretty sure i need your email address for Blackbelt) Sorry it's not more, gave it 100%, ran a little bit unlucky at the end. Will try harder next week.

I pretty much agree with Matt's take on the subject. I think having things like compulsory links and named referees is just over regulating and over complicating what, for many people, such as myself, is a pretty low level venture. The people doing most of the bigger stakes are fairly high profile and as such the majority of potential investors know exactly where they stand. When people start a staking thread, such as the one i recently started, potential investors are free to ask any questions and if they dont get a satisfactory answer they are free to walk away, as are any other people that read the thread. The same should apply to the larger, more high profile players. Having said that, i do think that if an issue arises after a staking, such as non payment, only partial payment, no communication etc. Then the person concerned should be asked, in the thread, to explain the situation and if satisfactory answers aren't forthcoming, then his / her staking rights should be removed until the matter is resolved. If someone is found to have carried out a blatant rip-off, such as selling 200% and deliberately losing, or just not playing and then spending the stakers money then they should be banned indefinitely, certainly at least until they have resolved the matter to the satisfactin of all of the stakers. As a newbie, posting and staking wise, i'm really not too fussed, but i just thought i would add feedback to the discussion.

5th best hand in Hold em yo
I see what you are saying Pleno. I actually think that this is a really interesting hand for people to look at. Certainly for less experienced players such as myself. On one hand, 3 bet folding looks, on the face of it, pretty bad to me, as we go down from a stack with plenty of options to one where our options become somewhat reduced. However, by 3 bet calling, we dispense with the advantage of position that we have. We then have to rely on villian 4 betting with a range of hands that TT is in good shape against to make it profitable. Of course, there is still a chance that one of the blinds wakes up with a hand that they want to play. If we flat call, we play the hand in position, for a 2bb cost, with lots of good options, with the benefit of seeing the fop. If we 3 bet and villian folds, we haven't actually won a massive amount, altho any extra chips are no bad thing. It's still a CALL for me, but i would be really be interested to hear other peoples thought processes for this one. Cheers for posting it TL900.
