I thought I'd look up how far you could actually get by going 11600km from where you are. Answer was pretty much bang on the middle of the Philippines . If you could go as the crow flies of course.
Can't remember off the top of my head mate but a lot of guys at work have the same 'hardcore' waterproof to 10m, shockproof and dropproof cameras and I think they were 12mp and about £110 ..
They absolutely LOVE them and tue underwater pics are epic.
Agree 3x 4gb cards and I personally prefer the 'higher speed' 15mb/ sec transfer rate. Make sure you get a photo-stitch program so you can take sick panoramics and make sure you take them all portrait style and take an extra one or two (5+ photos) Makes them bigger and much much sexier imo.
Sorry for yet another thread hijack, but do you remember the make/model of the waterproof camera you're talking about?
Oh, and talking of panoramics, there are cameras these days where you just hold them up and sweep round slowly and it does the panorama for you. Very very cool.
I think this guy might be even posher than Alex:

That's a good double if it's vs 4 or 5 mate. Because the banker needed minimum of 2 cards to made a hand . I am a blackjack pro long time ago till I have to give up and do Fish & Chips instead. Mehhhhhhhh
Not surprised you had to give up if you think that's a good double . -ev doubling anything <9 whatever the dealer's got. Chance of a dealer busting a 4 is 40%, a 5 is 42%.
wrong:
soft 3, soft 4, soft 5 soft 6, soft 7 and soft 8 are all doubles vs certain dealer cards. I guess thats >9 tho coz its really 13/14/15/16/17/18
Yes, wasn't talking about soft totals at all. You double them as there is a decent chance of finding a winning 18+ on the double even if the dealer doesn't bust. Was only a couple of weeks ago I posted the strategy chart. Don't want to pollute an excellent diary with another blackjack discussion.
Alex - in terms of P+S cameras, I'd be looking at Canon, Nikon, Panasonic, Fuji. Given you don't want to be lugging around anything too expensive, the one you linked to looks fine to me. Will do the job. Suggest you get 2-3 memory cards, swap them regularly, and try and work out some kind of backup strategy if possible. Not an Apple person but I think you can connect to Ipad and upload to cloud if you get decent wifi? That way if you lose the camera you won't lose all your photos, given you're out there for quite a while.
Edit: Beaten to that advice by David. NH sir.
Google Drive is a good option if you're not an apple person. Plenty of free space and very easy to use.
Oh, I'm fine, but thanks. My non-Apple tablet has both a card reader and multiple USB sockets, so I just plug in an external drive and copy photos across. If I wanted to do that on any of the late Mr Jobs' products, either a) I can't or b) I have to buy some ridiculously priced proprietary accessories. And I need no access to a data connection.
I'm looking to buy a waterproof (as in 3-5m of water) compact at the moment. Ideally <£150. Olympus Tough range seems to do well. Any suggestions/experience from anyone on here?

Like I said, you were there, but from what I known of DTD and live players in general, especially in grand prixes (correct plural?), I'd expect this to be a losing play long term.
Frankly couldn't give a stuff about the poker arguments, but I had to Google this one. It's quite debatable, apparently. Most answers say "Grands Prix" (correct French). But some would say if it's a named event ("DTD Grand Prix"), then the plural is just Grand Prix ("I've played in all the DTD Grand Prix"). But then when speaking, a lot of people will just add an S, so "Grand Prixs", pronounced "Grand Prees". Fascinating stuff.

Ditto about Elite, although once I found how easy it was to edit the save file to change money and kill count I kind of fell out with it. All trust was gone . I remember getting the tape version on the BBC B, then finding out the disc version had lots of stuff that wasn't in the tape version, so pestered my parents for a disc drive (at something redic like £200 for 100kB). Finally got one though!
X-Wing was my downfall at uni. Would have been my 2nd year 92/93, probably dropped a grade from redic late night sessions repeatedly trying to destroy the Star Destroyer instead of revising. That and 2 player Mortal Kombat (FINISH HIM!).
Sam & Max though. Genius. Day of the Tentacle too. Similar twisted humour.
Read this last year. Probably the most accessible book on relativity I've read. I used to think I vaguely understood it, but having read that I realised there were lots of gaps in my understanding. Although of course that means there are probably loads more gaps that I don't even know about.
"The Beginning of Infinity: Explanations that Transform The World" by David Deutsch - fairly mind-blowing mixture of philosophy and science. Really really enjoyed it. Not for the faint-hearted though.
"Seventeen Equations that Changed the World" by Ian Stewart - quite interesting ramble through mathematical history, starting with Pythagoras, and finishing with the Black-Scholes equation (financial modelling), via Thermodynamics, relativity, and quantum theory. As much about history as maths, you don't need to be particularly nerdy to understand it.
"Periodic Tales: The Curious Lives of the Elements" by Hugh Aldersey-Williams - again, more a history book than a chemistry text. He writes about the discovery and uses of each element. Skips all over the periodic table, partly depending on discovery dates, but also by arbitrarily grouping the elements by usage. Some interesting stuff, although maybe loses some focus as he gets going.
Also read "The Long Earth" - new sci-fi Pratchett/Baxter collaboration. The first 75% was pretty good, but then it didn't really go anywhere. Ending was weak. Setting up for a series maybe.
