Thank you Tikay, that was very nicely summarized. I appreciate it. I was dreading the church ceromony so much as most people that know me, know my feelings against religion. But I know Monday had nothing to do with me or my beliefs or even Kims for that matter. It was about my wider family who would have taken comfort from the ceremony. I just shut my ears and thought about my uncle and the things we shared and the times we spent together and kept telling myself in that church, don't forget his smile, don't forget his laugh don't forget his bad jokes. The burial itself was so humbling, so so many people went there. They stood around the grave and rippled out into a big circle. People were stood on the snow dusted ground, shivering and shaking from the bitter cold but yet they still stood and seemingly found it hard to leave. A Greek tradition at burials apparantly is to provide some symbolic food to share. We had olives, bread, cheese and a sweet red dessert wine produced in Cyprus called Commandaria. From all the painful parts, this breaking of the bread so to speak, was one of the warm parts - even though I dropped my olives on the floor and Kims daughter was still able to laugh at me. I have a huge family with over 30 first cousins alone. Even with this I've struggled in the past with large crowds and preffered to be a bit of a loner. If this tradegy has taught me anything then it's reminded me about the closeness you can have with your family and no matter what life throws at us, we will always be there for each other!! Oh and to call my mother a lot more I don't know where all this came from. I only logged on to thank Tikay for going to the funeral and a ty for excellent summary.....

I don't think it is fair comparing the two tikay.
The 9/11 attacks happened to be filmed for an amazing amount of cameras, tied in with the fact it was such a shock and happened in a world now where visual media is by far the largest form.
Also its far easier to put ourselves in the shoes of the people who died. Normal office workers who were going about their daily business like millions and millions do every day. Far far harder to have the same kind of emotive feelings about innocent people who are in the crossfire in places like Mali and Syria as their entire life experience is so totally removed from our own. I would imagine that they couldn't even comprehend that their are thousands and thousands of people out there who live like relative kings to them for clicking a choice of 3 buttons all day long. Thanks Ryan. Now that is perspective. As an aside I was in New York last week and the 9/11 memorial was such a weird but beautiful place. Really is a must do. I took some pics of the surrounding area so when I get my camera back from the GF I'll upload some. One thing that really, really surprised me was how the nearest fire station was only a 30 second walk away from the site. http://www.guardian.co.uk/artanddesign/2011/aug/15/ground-zero-memorial-september-9-11Kinda felt a bit confused tho that they had a 'Gift' shop but suppose its America and I think the profits go to good causes so.... Have you ever been to New York? Woulda thought it was your kind of place given there so many amazing buildings/engineering feats there. Yes, do please post those photos from New York, Ryan. No, I've never been there, though I'd like to. I've been very staid & conservative as to where I have travelled in my life, & I much regret it now. For instance, I don't think I have ever, in my life, visited anywhere in Asia. How that happen? I think daft things put me off - food especially. When I went to St Petersburg, I dined three times a day, every day, in the same eatery. It was a KFC. Bit late now to address all these mistakes. The cliche is "no regrets", but there have been a few. Red Card for anyone who Posts "but then again too few da dada. ......... Reading the emboldened part just made me feel really really sad for you. I think that has improved a tiny bit now, but has it really?? Just because you have regrets, doesn't mean you can't change them going forward. It ain't over yet by a long chalk.

Loving this thread boys and quite excited for the fab3, although more excited for us, the blonde reading public. Enjoying the French education Ed also seeing as I had never set foot on French soil until last June and that was only with Matt & Stu to drive from Calais into Belgium I hope it really is most excellent for you all. Try getting Alex drunk one night, let his hair down x How did that go, Maria, did you cash? hahaha No sir I did in fact not cash but ate loads of mussels, drank loads (of green tea) and had a fab night getting drunk in a very quaint Belgian old skool pub where they were not so covertly letting the customers smoke as long as you weren't sitting at seats near the front windows where the CCTV could see in I left them a wonderful present in their bathroom sink.
