Just watched yesterdays QT, thought everyone did pretty well

I thought it was a shame that nobody picked up David Davis on a pretty big contradiction.

One one hand the key to getting a good deal from Brexit is to 'believe in Britain' and on the other if Labour put corporation tax back to 2010 levels then businesses will all up sticks and move. Tough to square those two.

Move to where? The rate will still be lower than it was in 2010. It's not that businesses have suddenly moved here, is it? In the US the rate is 40%

I think dwelling on the deal, no deal thing is kinda pointless. There will be a deal...you heard it here first

It's understandable that May says things like this, just as Eurozone leaders will say silly things as a preamble to negotiations - they are all playing a tune they think sits well with their electorate, and rightly so.

Some things about negotiations are truisms even if some seem to counter one another and some defy common sense.

You have to be prepared to walk away in the face of a bad deal but you have to be prepared to compromise to get any kind of deal.

You have to talk tough and play hard but you have more chance of reaching a good deal if you get on with the counterparties.

If you're giving something away (compromising) you are losing in the negotiation but you need to compromise some things to get an agreement.

The weakest party will compromise the most and the strongest party will say 'win-win' and take advantage of the weaker party.

Whether people prefer to think we are weak Britain or strong Britain probably correlates fairly directly with the way we voted in the referendum as that was the battle line that was drawn. It's no surprise that politicians (all over Europe) continue to posture, and that the way commentators (including all of us) view things - the sky is going to fall in or things will ultimately get resolved fairly well for all - depends on how we voted.

I'm pleased that a majority thought we were strong Britain. In terms of growth, job creation, attractiveness for inward investment etc we are strong compared to most of Europe. The extra wealth here means we are an attractive export market. It just has to be true that the bulk of the Eurozone will be quite determined to ensure ongoing tariff free access to our market whilst understanding their strengths as a market for us and our desire for tariff free access too - certainly business will, and the only way this can go pear shaped is if the French and Germans get a bit childish about it and demand too much for that access. I'll literally eat a hat if there isn't a deal with us making ongoing contributions at some level for a free trade deal.

Would you prefer to give a bloody difficult woman a deal on whatever you are selling, or an affable, genuine guy that makes you laugh?

Despite how brilliant the Labour campaign has been and how fantastically Corbyn has performed I just don't see how Labour wins this.

10% of Tories are simply not going to vote for him, no matter how bad Theresa May is.

Hope I'm wrong.

I am not sure how you come to a conclusion of Jeremy Corbyn performing "fantastically". I would say it's more of Labour jumping on the social care aspect which has been the party gain a few inroads. He is the only reason I am not voting Labour because all the pledges, his past and weakness are too much for me to not to trust him.

Trident/Security - How can you trust a man, who is a pacifist? You don't get terrorist around a table drinking tea and biscuits, that's not how it works Jeremy.

£10 min wage - Nonsense & absolute disaster for small businesses.

Tuition fees - This is the worst pledge he has made in my eyes. I was previously a student and have racked up debt myself and I am not particulary worried about it really. However in my view, I don't believe it shopuld be free, but instead the cost should go down. £9k too much, £0 too less. Let's find the middle ground.

As for tonight's "debate" or more "Q&A", it was a good night for Corbyn, I thought he was just the winner in it. Just felt as if he was really close to a fantastic night, if he decided that when he jumped in to answer Paxman, that he continued on, and not be interupted again. Paxman a disaster tonight though.

Hurtful for me not voting Labour this time round after 2010 & 2015, but I can't see how I can possibly vote for this man. I'll probably swing from Labour to Lib Dem just as a protest vote and hope Corbyn can't possibly stay on. He isn't what the Labour party is about.

What's wrong with tea and biscuits? Whatever we have been doing isn't working.

£10 min wage? Why is it nonsense? Its going to be £9 anyway so what's the big deal?

What is the labour party about then?

Thanks again!

Opened  2.5bb from around 35bb big stack cutoff calls sb calls and bb folds.
I cbet 50% sb only calls. Now he is playing a bit crazy so when the turn comes I decide to check back and call any river. I mean obviously it looks a bad card but he was trying to win so many pots it didn't concern me.

3x river he bets 13bb I call he has A4, possibly had a bdfd on the flop but I'm not certain. Still happy with my line as he folds turn I would guess and has to bluff river.

Left with 15bb I complete SB with after 2 limpers.

As it checks round to button who bets like 40% pot. I figure middle pair with backdoors is good enough in that spot and jam for 14 total. He snaps 44 turn outs when ace comes but not to be.

Still planning to play tomorrow at hippodrome but not 100% decided

Well I got here 2 mins late. Enough to start on a short handed table after a couple or minutes.

You know one of those days where you get a load of small pairs and have to see 3. Well that's been today so far. 66,66,44,33,22
The 22 was annoying as the opener 5x'd but got 3 calls so I had to complete from BB :O

I also had NFD and annoyingly turned an ace where I think it also improved my hand but he bet relatively small on the turn so I had to peel and fold when he bombed river.

I had one hand when I wanted to hero with King High after missing a combo draw but I wasn't certain and it was the first orbit. If it had been after i saw him play for a bit it would be closer but even though I thought he was bluffing I couldn't find enough combos.

15k from 25k starting. 200/400/75

Hi Blonde,

Never posted a staking request but fancy a couple of comps this weekend. Quite short notice but I unexpectedly returned from abroad a few days early.

There's a stars £275 at Hippodrome with 40k guaranteed (I think) and £220 888 comp at aspers with £88k guaranteed. Both are 2 day events with day ones today and tomorrow. From my past dealings in these comps they are pretty soft.

I'm planning to play one bullet at each. Probably play 888 day 1 tonight. Obviously if I make day 2 of it I won't play day 1 of stars comp

Haven't played too much lately but used to be backed by Magic817 and railtard1. Used to be ahead of the curve online but now still fancy myself live

As I've never sold here before offering 50% at spot which is £495 total Probably play both either way.

10% £49.50
25% £123.75
50% £247.50

Take bank preferably but can take on stars/888/party/skrill

Finally Alec has put out a video with his thoughts about the hand. Abit surprised about his perspective from the turn where it seems he has a read on Doug and he talks a lot about feel rather than maths. Thoughts?

Cliffs:

I KNEW he was at it

At the end of the day, sometimes you've just gotta make a pair vs some people and hold on

Just another thing to add to the equation, have the long term care plans of the OP's parents been taken into account. Given the value of the property it would appear that no assistance will be available from the Government in that regard. If their finances are not robust then taking £300k away from the property could cause more problems than it solves.

IHT ramifications have been mentioned, but in my opinion the £300k would be a potentially exempt transfer and also create issues that would not exist if the money was retained within the value of the property. Normally transfers between spouses are free of IHT, but by giving £300k to the OP it would reduce the nil rate band if both of the parents died before 7 years, I accept this is unlikely but any Financial Advisor worth his/her salt would point this out. Not forgetting that from April 2017 that property passed to children will start to become exempt from IHT where the value is less than 1m (phased in until 2020).

I really would say that a Mortgage Advisor would not be well enough qualified to look at all of the issues that arise from Equity Release (IHT, Retirement Planning, Long Term care needs etc). OP would be better off talking to a Financial Advisor who is authorised to advise on Mortgages.

What others say about equity release seriously eroding the equity in your parents property is true. If they live another 20-30 years there won't be a lot for you to inherit.

There financial advisors are all on board and think its a great idea apparently.

The interest should be paid down hopefully, it's looking like 3.77% and I am looking for two bedroom properties and getting a lodger, so between us that should cover it. That is the only way I will do it however. Not interested in getting a one bed and potentially leaving interest to roll up and erode that equity.

The care question has been asked and answer by the financial advisors but I personally don't know the implications.

I'm pretty on board with it now. Getting together with my parents and siblings to make sure everything is sorted so any questions or issues about their inheritance are clear (even though no one really wants to talk about it)

Rolling up interest at 6.24% is as bad it sounds. Total debt each year will be

300
318k
338k
359k
381k
405k
430k
457k
486k
516k
548k

So after 10 years, it property prices stay the same, the equity in the house is down a quarter million. If interest rates go up (which they will) then this will get much worse.

I'm well aware.
