The pics are great BTW.
I love the expression on the black dog's face in pic #1. I wouldn't fancy to intimidate him.
It's funny how looks can be deceiving. The white one is actually the one you wouldn't want to try and intimidate. He is absolutely fearless and huge in stature and strength. When I get deliveries or strangers arrive at the house the Cane Corso (black one) will often back away with caution and check out the scene first whereas the Central Asian will charge at the door and bark fiercely. Once he does so, the Cane Corso will follow. If the front gate door is opened and someone comes in with any member of the house they are always friendly and welcoming but no-one should come in alone.
Bangkok is a city full of condominiums so when I moved to a house I was still travelling a bit to and from Macau and it was in my plans to continue doing so. My wife felt a little unsettled staying at the house without me and even though in Bangkok there is very very very little burglary compared to the UK, I still didn't want to take anything for granted. It was also an excuse for me to get a big dog that I had always wanted. Throughout my childhood my mum had always said no to any requests of a dog.
I went to place that imports big dogs, initially to get an English bullmastiff. I saw every large dog breed from Russian Shepherds to Great Danes and I had never interacted or seen a Central Asian shepherd before. I loved how they looked and what I was told about them but I also met a cane corso with a head like a football and loved how he was just so happy to sit and chill with me. I called the wife and asked 'I know we talked only about 1 dog but I've seen two here that I love and i just cant decide, can I get both pleasssse?'
'NO' *hangs up*
So while I'm deliberating she calls me back, fairly quickly too. Bit of background is that Thais are very very pro-Cosmetic surgeries. There are clinics for every sort of beauty enhancement you can imagine all over Bangkok and I'm not a fan of such things. I'd given here similar 'No' answers in the past. She knew she had me in cheque mate though.
'I will let you get both dogs if you let me get my eyes done'.
'For fucks sake. I hate you.deal. Very well played'.
So a few weeks later I came home with these two pups and from day 1 it was clear Bear was the alpha. I learnt very fast after a few incidents where Bear attacked Chucko. The first one was where I'd bought them identical toys and gave one to each.
I have to be very careful when I'm walking them because they are extremely protective and dont like other male dogs. They are both great with people but because they're so big, I get really mixed reactions from people. A lot of people cross the road or walk very wide around them. If I'm walking them 1 by 1 I will get stopped often by people wanting pictures of the white one or to pet him. He's called Bear because I got him as a Pup and at 8 weeks old he already looked like a mini polar bear. At 8 weeks he was 18kg and his paws were huge. They are both great with people as I've socialised them a ton since a very early age and all my free time away from kids etc is spent at the local dog park. It's probably my favourite place to be in Bangkok.
No doubt the Cane Corso is stronger, he is just a dense ball of muscle.
They've done all sorts of obedience training, scent classes etc. They are taken to play with other dogs multiple times per week and they have swimming sessions twice a week. They cost me a fucking fortune.
I take them to the dog park near my house more than any other dogs are taken there. I love it as much as they do. They were both so good with dogs from day 1 that I never had a single issue in the park. I would regularly ask the staff if it was ok if i popped across the road to grab a quick coffee or bring one back and they were always happy to keep an eye for me. This one time I left the park and I was 30 yards away when I heard screaming and I ran back to the park and hopped over the fence. The Cane Corso had a Frenchie in his mouth and he was being swung from side to side. As soon as I grabbed him he released and i pulled him away. He was scared and shaking. He was clearly unhappy rather than angry. fortunately the other dog had just a small skin puncture and no bone or organ damage and it was lucky i was on it so fast. I apologised profusely to the other owner and explained how it had never happened before and was totally out of character. There is also a vet on site at this complex and I offered to pay for any costs. I also quickly asked the owner of the dog park to review the footage of the incident and I was pretty angry to see the other dog still on his lead jumping in the face of chucko. Chucko is backing away for about 5 metres until he has nowhere to go and the owner is laughing. He is finding it humorous that his little frenchie is making this giant dog back up, that is until Chucko retalliates and However one time a little Frenchie was with his owner and the owner thought it was hilarious that his frenchie was snapping at Chucko, who was backing away and backing away until he reached a corner. A few days later I took him back to the dog park and he lunged at another dog straight away. He didnt make any contact as I could see his body language wasn't right and so stayed right by him. He is extremely obedient with me. I took him out and a few weeks later had him neutered. I think he was around 18 months old at this point. However, since the neutering this distruct of certain breeds (frenchies, short nosed dogs, huskies, big alpha males) has meant I can't socialise him outside his pack or he gets jittery around dogs that show a hint of aggression and will just attack where Bear will warn or only do it if it's necessary.
