6466  Poker Forums / The Rail / Simple ruling please. on: January 06, 2009, 02:45:48 PM
My little pub poker tournament is getting out of hand, not only in numbers but the fact its starting to attract some of the casino players.

Im confident in my TD'ing and will know my rules pretty well but last night I got a little confused.

All tables are self dealt but with a nominated dealer.

For some reason the button wasnt moved, but the cards were dealt correctly.

When the dealer pointed to the guy who needed to put his big blind in he threw his cards in thinking he was UTG.

So I know have the dealer telling him he must still pay his blind.
The guy saying it should be a re-deal as it was the dealers fault and now everyone knows he is weak.
One of the casino players saying his hand is protected and he gets his cards back.
Another guy saying that he's mucked and therefore his cards are in the untouchable fires of the muck.

Im pretty sure I made the right decision but just want to check what people think. Thanks

It's a Gala, he can't own the casino. What does it mean when it's said "It's his casino"

For some reason they value his custom so much they allow him free run of the place.
If he doesnt like a member of staff theyre gone.
If he needs some food they put points on his card.
Whatever he asks for he gets.

I had to get involved once to stop one of the cardroom valets being sacked for no reason, well it was about to happen because someone had complained to Ash that she was rude. To save her job I explained to Ash that his friend was not only rude but also a complete prick.

Nice enough bloke though, I actually really like him. But then again I know a lot more stories..................................

This was gala nottingham.

This was Ash Abdullah.

It's his casino. He does as he likes.

Lol
For anyone who doesnt know, Cos isnt joking.
There is a quality story when a dispute erupted over a roulette bet.
Ash was asked to make a ruling whether the bet made by his friend should be paid or not!!!!

Just for the record, agree with Triggs points but the one that does my head in completely is the fact 90% of players insist on using the smallest denomination chips they have. It slows the game down and is just complete stupidity. It should be a rule that your bet must be made using as few chips as possible or you are given a warning, a time penalty, disqualified, a kicking in the car park, shot, shot in the eye.

yeah I noticed this a lot at DTD over the weekend with sometimes two or three people passing before the raiser had announced the size of their raise.  You'd get pulled up for it in Luton for sure, but doesn't seem to bother the dealers at DTD.

Think it depends on the dealer at DTD, i can think of a couple straight away who will always stop the player and ask them not to pass out of turn, so they probably all know they are meant to do it.
6471  Poker Forums / Poker Hand Analysis / Re: Maximising a monster on: January 06, 2009, 01:41:17 PM
then fold on the flop

Yes, but wait til it's checked to you, then look at the dealer, shake your head in disgust and fold face up.

and say.... fucking learn to deal something decent you useless prick?

If you say this you have to throw your drink at him pretty much 100% of the time.

Surely if we do this 100% of the time he villain gets wise and starts to duck when we throw the drink?
If we do it about 72% i think this would maximinse the chances of getting them full in the face?

Im assuming you didnt know this at the time though?

The tournament was wll organised except for the problems at the begining which were unforeseen as so many turned up. Also running the £50 comp only 1 hour later exacerbated the problem. However Simon and the DTD people have always reacted to improve things so next time will be ok. Perhaps starting the £300 earlier or opening earlier for registration. The £50 comp should be run as regulars would be disappointed if it wasnt. Thanks to the people who stood in as dealers they did a good job.

This is definately something to look forward to each month - the satellites are a great idea both online and live (I dont think any were undersold online, so perhaps there is scope for more- I know monday and tuesday are the only days DTD is not open but could put a minimum number of runners on other days).

On the ruling on the "mucked cards" affair, the tournament director has to make a decision on the spot ( a bit like a referee at football). He didnt see it happen and gets several verbal accounts simultaneously from excited people - there are no action replays. Not an easy call .

The atmosphere was great the structure is as good as you can get.

Players should attempt to enter online if they dont want to queue next time.

On the question of doing deals - previously at DTD it was chip counts only but this was changed and I think correctly - if you have played for 2 days and feel that for whatever reason a deal feels right and everyone still playing agrees then it should be allowed.  What shouldn't happen is undue pressure on one player who dosn't want to deal and non players should not get involved.

Amazing tournament, and they did the best they could. It was either selfdeal or tell everyone to go home. There is no way they could have expected nearly 300 players!

I think they could defo run 2 live satellites also.

Registering online is definately the way forward.

Deals are definately a good thing, I dont mind chip counts, but at the end of the day its their money and if everyone agrees they can do what they like with it!

Finally Mr Forrester are you the guy I was talking to during the final break of day 1 about laptops and my drunkeness?? Lol

Im going to use a staple gun to protect my cards in future.
6475  Poker Forums / The Rail / Re: Ruling from £50k Gtd at DTD this weekend.. on: January 05, 2009, 06:11:58 PM
It's the players responsibility to look after their cards. It's harsh but it's the way it is. Them cards are dead and that's that.

I hate this rule. Yes it is your responibility to protect your cards.
Surely this is over ruled by the rule about fairness.
If its obvious dealer error and the cards can be identified, surely the fairest action is to return his cards.
Im sure ive seen this happen, probably at Gala/Circus not DTD.

What would the ruling be if I had a chip on my cards and the dealer swiped them?

Anyway, as you may have guessed I folded.

I figured it was the best plan, I thought I was behind, I feel I have a big edge in these tournaments, especially against my starting table in this event, I could find easier/better spots.

MP then moves all in. Whats his range here?

did you tell everyone you hadn't looked at your hand?

How do you know about this cos?

He used the line on me the first and only time I met Stu, when I raised JJ utg in a cash game and he repopped it quite big on the button. Instead of shoving pre I decided to peel a flop and get it in on the safe 1087 flop to be instacalled when Stu remarkably found his blind reraise was with kings.

[  ] I was upset when the   hit the turn

Ah

I can honestly say that i had not looked at my cards when i first raised. It was meant to be a straddle that was just a little late.
I thought you may have been reffering to a more recent incident of not looking at my cards carnage.

[ ] Not looking at my cards is big
[ ] Not looking at my cards is clever
[X] Not looking at my cards is frickin stupid
[ ] Ive got your jack out my eye
[X] That sounds a liitle wrong

Wei Cheng moves all-in for 87k. Matt Cartwright calls on the button. Jim Peppercorn thinks about it for a moment in the big blind, but decides it's too salty for him.

Cartwright:

Cheng: Errrm... two spades

Wei Cheng is OUT in 8th place winning £2,111

Not meaning to sound bitter and twisted or anything, but I will.  How in hell's great ass did this Cheng person make it all the way to 8th and £2k??

He was the villian who made a shocking play V MOI Kings pre flop to knock me out with 3 5 yesterday.  Today he was heard screaming and shouting when his he reraised all in with 2 4 and found himself against Aces (pattern forming here!) only to see an A 3 5 flop!  Then THIS!

gg

signed A Sigh Just Sigh

God only knows Maria

Was such a shame to, put an end to Trigg's singing!

I was on his table from the start till he knocked me out at 3am. (He actually had a respectable hand!)

We had him down to 3k in about an hour of it starting, unfortunately he made it all back and more.

Surprised he didnt win it to be honest, seems to be the way it works!  Wink
