61  Poker Forums / The Rail / Re: Best games for us fish to play to have a chance of winning in the long run? on: October 28, 2014, 12:02:51 AM
everyone missing the point here imo.

I think deciding where to play there should be a load more important factors to consider before where the softest stnd of play is, whether or not you're going to make a big ICM mistake is, or if there will be a gaggle of Pro players hunting you for your money.

The best thing about being a recreational player is that you can play poker without a legitimate expectation of profit, and because of this you can base decisions about where to play on much more pleasant criteria than pro players; playing DTD tonight cos that fit valet is working, going to play some 50p£1 and get smashed with my pal, going to play Gala tonight cos it's a 10minute walk and I can have a drink etc.

Spending too much time deliberating about the "value" of certains games just seems like a drain on the enjoyment of playing recreational poker to me. I've spoken to with loads of guys over the years and heard lots of different explanations for there motivation to play poker, from "gets me away from the wife one night a week" - "I just like trying to break some pro's soul" - "I really like playing" (simple I know!!)

Basically if you wanna win at poker then you have to play in games with weaker players than you, as B+W as that sounds, and if you've ever run a variance simulation (not something I'd advise as it's quite confusing and probably the dullest thing that it's possible to do lol) but you'd see that if you play poker sporadically over a year then the difference between a -10% and +10% ROI is irrelevant. I would focus my energy on where you want to play, where is most fun to play, what satisfies you most - fast action, low exposure, rowdy table banter, chance to win big money etc and playing well within your means instead of trying to find game that you feel are +EV, when they might still not be, and even if they are you'll never really be able to beat the variance, and if you're going to be at the mercy of variance then you need to get lucky anyways, may as well go to where you like playing, play with people you like playing against in games you want to play and just accept you need to be slightly luckier than you would be playing elsewhere!

This post deserves a signed Chris Moorman book Smiley

Absolutely spot on.  I think too many recreational poker players get caught up in making +EV game selection decisions (because they've read it on a forum somewhere) and forgets the reasons why they are choosing to spend their hard earned cash and valuable spare time playing poker.

I also found it interesting, all very logical but slightly depressing that things have evolved to ensure that the fish get eaten as quickly and efficiently as possible. Much like a food chain where a predator that is just too successful will end up decimating it's own prey and end up starving to death.

I was just thinking pretty much this whilst reading the thread.

Do recreational players actually want to know about this stuff (much like the HUD's discussion), or will they still play for fun as and when they want ?

All this stuff just puts me off wanting to play any online poker where you don't have the tools to play the regs on a level playing field (actual poker skill aside).

Doesn't leave many options does it ?

The mechanics from the inside are we have a list of players that are not in the group but that are trying to sit the lobbies. All group members are obliged to sit these players whenever they get a lobby. Anyone shirking their responsibilities and trying to freeroll the rest of the group by not battling vs the sit list players gets kicked. The difference between the 1ks vs Coleman and most of the other groups is that you don't actually have to take a chunk of money from the group to get in, you just have to make it not worth our while to play you, so you have to beat the group over a decent sample for more than the rake. Players that are clearly stronger than some of the weaker group members get in much faster, but the reality of the poker economy is that these requirements will have to be tightened as the pool of recs slowly dries up.

This made me chuckle.  They'll have to tighten their requirements to adjust for the continual reduction of the pool of recs that they earn their money from.

Don't worry chaps, we'll cross that bridge when we get to it Smiley

What is the point of having a £5 last-longer added to the entry-fee?

Pretty sure that's been dropped now, and it's a straight £125 buyin, with 10% taken out for the reg fee

Not sure how the 4th goal hasn't received more love.

41 passes

Every one of the Saints team touched the ball in the buildup

No Newcastle player got a touch

Slightly confused is it 100,000 or 125,000 as it states 100,000 on DTD site?

Hi Will. 100,000 or 125,000 chips? for which event?
The Gtd on the £440. On the DTD site it says 100k is that a mistake?

It's 125k, but that figure will get smashed anyway.

Absolutely no reason to be paying any sort of deposit.

He is entitled to ask for 'proof of funds' to get some confidence that you are genuine, but if he is actively looking to sell, then he should have accounts on hand to help justify the price he is looking for.

It's still very much a buyers market when it comes to the bar/restaurant trade.  Although owners will claim that revenues are on the up, they are still way off the levels of 4-5 years ago.

I've been working with a client for a number of months now on a small restaurant purchase.  It still always amazes me the valuations that some owners put on their businesses.

Good luck with the transaction.  Just make sure you've done your own homework and don't rely on the numbers the owner will provide to make any decisions.

Thanks for all the comments guys.

Still feels like I was just there updating, and some other bloke scooped the lot.

It might take a few days to sink in (which should coincide with the bank transfer from DTD)   Shocked

Don't they submit the players to UEFA before the match?  Can't they put the names into a computer and see if any are illegible and then tell the team before the game?  Accepting the team-sheet with the players before the game means someone at UEFA should get a slap.

I guess the fact he played 3 minutes is largely irrelevant.  He was on the team-sheet, and 'could' have been brought on after the first minute I guess?

Completely agree with this.  I thought every Champs League game has a designated UEFA representative present.  Every player has to be registered, and therefore must have some sort of UEFA Registration number.  It's a five minute job to log the two squads numbers and look for green ticks or red crosses as to eligibility.

Although Legia have broken the rules, it does appear that there was no intention to break this rule and more of an oversight not to have registered the player for the previous tie (which they chose not to name him on the team sheet for as they knew he was suspended, and the same goes for the first leg of the Celtic game).

Surely common sense should prevail here ?
71  Community Forums / Betting Tips and Sport Discussion / Re: Celtic - reinstated into the CL on: August 08, 2014, 12:33:30 PM
The daft thing is that it comes down to the fact that Legia didn't register the player for the previous tie,so although they thought he had now sat out 3 games, in UEFA's eyes it was only 1 game he'd missed.

Seems very harsh indeed.  They've kept him out of 3 games, as per the suspension.  It all sounds a but corrupt if yo ask me (not on Celtic's part, the only thing they have done wrong is getting turned over 6-1 on aggregate).

Never going to happen.  This is always going to be skewed by the number of games shown for each club.  The average viewing figures show a 2:1 swing from the less popular teams to the most popular.

There is also a larger likelihood that smaller teams will have match day revenues affected more from a televised game (attendance reduction due to availability of game on TV and potential kickoff scheduling), and teams that have more games shown are also going to pick up more matchday advertising revenue, so the gulf in TV payouts suggested in the first image are more than likely already there in overall revenues, just being created from other revenue sources.

If you connect it via a HDMI cable and extend the screen from your Mac, the quality will be the lesser of either the maximum resolution of your graphics card in you Mac or the maximum resolution on your TV.

If you are planning on doing this on a regular basis, you can't go far wrong than having an Apple TV box.  Allows you to rent and buy films, stream Netflix, stream music, films and TV from your iTunes account or your Mac (or any PC linked up to that network).

Great.

And the quality with the apple box would be that of the tv or the macbook to the same as above ( the worst one)

It runs either 1080p or 720p HD.  You can link up any apple device to it via Airplay, so as long as you have a decent wifi network then shouldn't be a problem.

I stream HD films straight from iTunes, and I also Airplay BT Sport from my iPad to it (As I don't have Sky, but get BT Sport free with the broadband), and the quality has always been great.
