931  Poker Forums / The Rail / Re: deals do me heed in on: June 17, 2009, 01:43:45 PM
Ok, would like opinions on a few deal situations that occured this weekend...

Comp is a £550 affair, 95 runners, 10 paid. There are 13 left, have been for the last hour. I'm probably 8/13. A deal is proposed by the other table remaining to take £500 off the top three spots (16.5/8.5/6.2) and pay 11th-13th to help speed things up. Given my current position i have no problem with this, however i know for a fact that on the table that has proposed the deal a friend of mine is sitting there with <3bbs. The table obv haven't taken note of this,i have. He's staying quiet as a mouse, so did I. Should I?

Later on, same comp. When six handed we had smoothed the payout structure to the following. 1st: 14,000, 2nd 7980, 3rd-6th 4500. We're 4 handed at 10k/20k/2k. 1.4mil total in play. In 15 mins blinds will go 20/40/4k. I have 290k and am 3/4, it's obv that the other three want to deal and not play it out. I feel i'm the best player at the table although i've got the 2nd best player and big stack to my left. There is approx £31k in the pot left to play for, we're now kinda playing a satellite. If we deal right  now i guess i'd get 7k, if i bust i get 4.5k. If i can double through i can either leverage a good deal for around 10k of the prize pool that will remain or play it out and go ftw. I thought the best way to play this (allbeit with <15bbs) was to try and increase my stack in the last 15 mins of this level to try and either get it 3 handed or at least improve my stack to get a better deal, as if we were still four handed at 20k/40k it'd been stupid and i'd have been forced to deal regardless of my stack.

Thoughts please.

You're guaranteed £4.5k, and if you do a deal, you're probably getting £7k. If I was in your position, and I wanted to continue at that point on, and I doubled up, I would just go for the win. I don't think I would risk going for the double up, and once I have it, accept a deal. So it's either deal now, or go for the win. Also, I am probably looking at this focussing too much on the remaining players, but I reckon you could have dominated that table. (Hopes we are talking about the same tournament...)

personally i would not take the situation with the big mouths personally, what i would do here with 26,000 is check the big blind, you have plenty of time left.

Really? 26 BB's isn't that deep.

anything from 10s above here id pop to about 6K to defend my blind,,,

Why can't we do the same with 99's? 2 serial limpers, and we have nines in the blind, good time to pump it up imo.

and below are good to see a flop with for free, if you hit your set, you are well disguised and likely to get action and payed off.

Set mining, fair enough, but I'd more likely be doing this if we were deeper and when we have more information about what range we are facing. Here, it seems like their range could be anything, so when we don't hit a flop, do we know where we are? Again, raise for the win.

If big cards come on the flop you know  you can escape without having already commited extra unnecessary chips to the pot

So, our plan is... fold when a ten, J, Q, K, A comes? If it comes a low flop, that's probably right up 5-2 and 3-2's alley, so we fold again. Lol, only time we win is if hit a set...

Sorry if it appears like I am dismantling your post, it's a discussion forum, so I am just tackling your thought process. Smiley

If this was the case, and the villain was beating us, would this be the best way for him to extract value from the hand?

I guess u mean the check call line on the river?
i'm just quoting the theory of poker here on river decisions- ''You should bet when your hand is a favorite to win when called. Not when it is the favorite to be the best hand, but when it is the favorite to be the best hand against a hand with which your opponent will call.''

I'm stuck here free_rollin as joemacs bet on the turn tbh has me scratching my head to what hand range he could possibly have given how the action has gone up to now in a limped pot but as played to river yes i do prefer the check call to the lead.

I was talking from the villain's point of view, that if he knows what the hero has, and believes the hero has made a flush, AND he believes he is winning, will an all-in be the best way for him to extract value?

Personally, I don't think villain is raising all-in on river with just trips (lol, have no reads, but assuming he is a decent player). He could have air, but taking noble's point of view that the hero's flush is obvious, it would be a rather big move and a big assumption that hero does not call with the flush. I think you're beat camel, however if i was in your situation, the donk in me probably snaps.

i cheated and checked his stats - abi $108 with roi of 41% out of 1100 odd mtts but slightly miscued by the fact he recently took 3rd for $44000 in a $109 rebuy, your hand is pretty face up after the check call turn lead river line imo so i guess a reluctant fold though joemac's line of play does seem bluffy lol lol.
As played i agree with you , it is interesting hand..The river could be played differently i guess with a check call because i can't think of too many hands that call you on this board that you have beat the way the action has gone[maybe against a sat qualifier i might lead though Smiley]

If this was the case, and the villain was beating us, would this be the best way for him to extract value from the hand?

As i have not yet visited DDT, i don't think the numbers for this and the side events are good enough, but like i said Ive not been there yet,but if this club was on my doorstep i would be there every day,i really do wish this club the very best, have only heard good things.

Steve the reason it was`nt full is because of a few things which happened at the same time as this ;

romanallo had a opening party this weekend in swansea ,so all the welsh contingent have stayed in wales because they would have missed the final day .
the world series ,a few have gone over there early what would have played this .
and man utd getting to the final of the European cup ,theres about 10 gone over for that that would have played.

my i take this opportunity to congratulate DTD and all its staff for how professional they have been this week .
well done guys.

and student exams! Sad

Didn't let them stop me! But yes, DTD should in future liase with students about exams! Smiley

Seems like there's a lot of chips on table 11! Might be a few big pots....

Good luck to MC and James Mitchell...

Also, Gurdeu seems to be going quite deep at recent DTD events, albeit without a big score.... don't really know much about him though, anyone else?
