yeh 1 drive will be absolutely fine. you dont have to partition either. can if you want. but could be a faff if you try and be accurate and then Microsoft do a Microsoft and bring out an update where it jumps in size (like they usually do)

as an example I have Windows and my poker databases and a few games on my 256gb SSD,  30gb space spare.

I use about 250gb on my hdd to store poker videos and other games I play less regularly.

I think I probably have more stuff than your average user.  thumbs up

I've had a long detailed chat with my Computer guy and I have a couple of questions.

All of you say that all the poker stuff has to be on an SSD. He says that all the operating software should be on and SSD and then there is the other personal stuff too.

All the personal stuff can go on a normal Hard Drive.

With the SSD side of things, would you be ok with a 1tb SSD which could be partitioned into for example 25% operating system and the remainder poker (there would be a small amount for recovery) or would you insist on 2 separate SSD's and if so what would be your reasons for this?

tyia, Shaz

you should be imprisoned if you don't run you OS on the SSD

but you also want the poker stuff on ssd so just dont get the most tiny one.  you likely wont need more than 256. 500 would be plenty. 1tb would be a farce tbh.

Haha, I have a new friend coming to Malta. He is really keen to meet for dinner and even insisting on paying.

Counting down the days til he arrives.

sounds like a complete mug.  idiot
66  Poker Forums / The Rail / Re: Changing tournament structure mid-comp to mitigate overlay, acceptable? on: April 15, 2019, 02:35:04 PM
I was very surprised by the overlays in all the side events.

Did everyone just do their brains in the Colossus the week before? Was it because of no direct satties to the side events and people don't like the PPL$ system? People prefer to go do Dublin this week?

given you can expense hotels aswell as buyin with PPL, and the huge amounts of value in the guaranteed PPL sats they are running, I can only think that they had a positive influence on numbers in general. I was genuinely surprised at how many people had traveled from abroad to play.

the build I linked is a pretty high end gaming pc way above the specs asked for an only 250 quid over budget (or 25% Cheesy )  there are a few more on the side bar by them linked which are slightly over budget but excellent set ups for the price.

just as an example from hotukdeals, and if you have a friend who is helping you, check out this build vs price. it's imo a very good deal.

tower is good for price, and as you say allows for you to leave space to expand/improve.

for 1k you can get a pretty decent build and if you already have monitors etc then you should be able to get an i5 or better 8gb ram, 248gb ssd, 1-2tb hd which should see you sitting pretty.

preference would be 16gb ram but see what you find.

250 yards straight >  any other distance not straight.

to hit something like 80 you have to play every hole well and not have any blows up. so just focus on 200 < x < 250 straight a high % and then work on short game around the greens and that will be the biggest improvement to cut shots out.

I have PT4 Holdem and Omaha but mainly just using Holdem at the mo, I don't have Notecaddy yet. I'm talking to a good friend who can build computers but I'm not techy enough to do that yet with help from him via any means so it's going to be a supplier bought one. He has asked me questions on how much storage I would need for the PT4 database. His thoughts are that if I went with an SSD he would use it for the essential computer programs whereas I went for using it for the PT4 storage so that would mean possibly an internal and external SSD which brings the spec and cost into the equation and my questions as I have a budget to begin with so all your thoughts have been gratefully received.

essential computer programs = windows and poker database

Until you start playing huge volume you wont have a huge database so you shouldn't worry about filling an SSD 'too quick'.

What is your budget ? what are you looking at? what do you want to use the pc for and games or just browsing and poker?

do you need a laptop or can you get a desktop?

Any time.

the other thing Red was going to say is that HEM is generally alot more laggy than PT.

Hand2Note is a newer product by a Russian guy which is much smoother with some nice advanced options but it ends up costing more due to a monthly subscription as opposed to one off payment.

8gb should be plenty, i've always had 16gb and it's smooth as you like.

the things that will slow it down when running is not running on SSD (basically a crime at this point) and very large numbers of hands.  if you're on SSD and under 1million hands with 16gb RAM it should never really suffer from any sort of slow down.
