Poker Pro To Donate WSOP Tournament of Champions Winnings To Charity – If He Qualifies!

“Vote for Marty” Facebook Campaign Aims To Get Boylepoker pro Marty Smyth Into Invite-Only Tournament; Smyth Pledges Any Winnings To Children’s Hospitals

Dublin, Ireland: April 1, 2010 – Boylepoker.com today launched a campaign to have its sponsored pro, Marty Smyth, voted into the World Series of Poker Tournament of Champions invite-only event this summer in Las Vegas.

Smyth has pledged to donate any winnings from the $1 million freeroll to the Royal Belfast Hospital for Sick Children and Our Lady’s Children’s Hospital, Dublin.
The winner of the 27-player tournament will walk away with $500,000.

Paul Spillane, head of poker at Boylepoker.com, said, “Not only has Marty won a WSOP world championship event, he’s won the World Open, Irish Open, and Poker Million. Surely that’s the pedigree of a true champ and his generous gesture of donating any prize money he might win to children’s charities in Ireland, should see the whole country swing behind him. It’s a no-lose situation for the children’s hospitals so get voting now people!”

Belfast-man Smyth, who is getting married next week after trying to reclaim his Irish Open title in Dublin this weekend, already has a sizable voting contingent on the ‘Vote for Marty’ fan page on Facebook.

He qualifies for the tournament vote having won the WSOP Pot-Limit Omaha World Championship in 2008.

Fans of the laidback pro and his unique charity fundraiser need simply visit www.wsop.com/toc <http://www.wsop.com/toc> , register an account, and vote for Marty Smyth. Voters are also encouraged to use their Facebook pages to raise awareness of Smyth’s fundraising drive.

Did ask if i could put this up, bit of value methinks.

Tonight at 8 p.m. (WET), Boylepoker.com is offering a $50 + $5 buy-in Luke Schwartz Poker Million tournament with some nice features. The event is in honour of Schwartz making the final table of the Poker Million which will play out tomorrow, Dec. 4.

Firstly, the site is adding $5,000 to the event, and secondly, if the young outspoken online phenomenon goes on to win the Poker Million final then the online tournament buy-in will be refunded to any player who did not make the money. Schwartz is on a good run lately after coming second in the European Championship of Online Poker V $500 buy-in no-limit hold’em event.

Schwartz himself will also be taking part and will have a $50 bounty on his head, as will “LukesSandwich”, “LukesJakeys”, and “LukesWoteva”. The young pro can be found playing the $5,000 added event under “LukeSchwartz”.

It’s not the first time Boylepoker.com has done something associated with the Poker Million. Last year, “mmcgenius”, a player at the site won $9,800 due to Boylepoker pro Marty Smyth’s victory in the Poker Million. Fifty players shared five percent of Smyth’s winnings via a special freeroll at Boylepoker.com.

The ideal world for a poker network would be one where every player was break-even in skill, ran equally averagely, and only ever dropped money to the rake i.e. into their pocket.

What actually happens is money funnels up the levels to the point where it is withdrawn from the 'poker economy' by players who actually cash-out when they win and spend the money on hookers and blow actual real world expenses.

I can see why this particularly hurts the bigger skins who are trying to attract newbies via advertising and who are suffering at the hands of smaller skins who are focusing on high volume rakeback hungry pros or semi-pros, but the way ipoker are going about managing this just seems absurd.

Of course some people will point at all this and say 'ooohh online poker is so dodgy it should be banned' but really it's a perfect illustration of why the government should be embracing the industry, getting the companies to onshore, and apply some proper, simple regulation.

I did lol at this, its so close to the truth! Rakeback is the major issue for skins of ip & the new policy on deposits/withdrawals is one way of tackling that issue which i support.
Regulation imho is desperately needed but who is going to invest in a cost that could run into millions, its survival of the fittest. Anyway back to the real world expenses.

The extra chips worked liked a charm, not a single complaint and having the seat draw done and online really helped make a potential nightmare go very smoothly. 1st place will be over 70k, all celebs/vips showed up, massage girls working the floor, bars are open, bounty players are all wearing Sunderland shirts, poker show tee-shirts out in force (hard luck Jesse) and Flushy is chip leader!
