Played yesterday, thought the tourney was a terrific idea and a lot of fun. Huge respect to DTD for organising this.

Sadly I ran badly so didn't survive the day. Put me down for the next one though.

Happy to be made to look stupid, as I thought 600 was about what it would get.

Got one thing right though as I was one of the first few who entered, so feel slightly less stupid now! I shall be there on Friday for the start, really looking forward to it Smiley

Well done to DTD, fekin amazing!

Fantastic result BTW.

My Q is;

Do you think that UK railers overstep the mark of "sporting etiquette" when a UK player is at the FT of a big event?

More bizarre dealing. The short stacks should be attempting to push for more money here. The 4th place guy is only getting 3k more than he was guaranteed anyway but is missing the chance for potentially 20k more.

+ 1

We have this discussion every month (and soon twice a month)

1   -   £26,374  - £20,295
2   -   £15,419 - £17,323
3   -   £9,251 - £10,783
4   -   £6,492  - £9,128

It always seems that the big stack gets the best of it as they are also handed the "title" as well. Don't forget if the Big stack had a disaster and went out 4th (however unlikely) he'd potentially lose £20k and £13.5k from the guaranteed deal. They have the most to lose not the shorties.

Short stack actually got £2,636 more than if he had been knocked out in 4th anyway. Where an extra £17,246 was possible or £19,882 if the deal was refused. He gets 7.5/1 on his £2,636 if he gambles. Also he only needs to ladder up 1 place if they play on and he's guaranteed more than the deal.

If I was him I would not settle for less than £12k. If not agreed he may as well just shove in blind every hand and see what happens. At the blind levels they were at, it would only have to go un-called for a few hands for him to have significantly more chips.

Fav Lawrence quote was at the FT of this event in march 09.

A deal was being discussed but the offer wasn't good enough in his eyes. When he turned it down he said, "They must have chocolate for bollox and straw for brains, now deal the fn cards."

What sort of team sacks the manager after a 4 nil win?

Who do you want/think will be next Southampton manager?

Amazing game of cricket.

Hi - a few thoughts on day 1a. I recently won a free day at a TIPS seminar with Paul Zimbler - and Liv Boeree as the guest pro. She emphasised the importance of entering satellites to get into big comps - so on Monday night I joined DTD and won a £560 entry into this event for £34. I’d never been to DTD or a tourney like this before - and with three minutes to go the excitement built as all the names and seat allocations came up on the screens - and as usual my name wasn’t there! Managers were summoned to sort out some Aussie guy waving a copy of an email saying he did in fact have a seat, and after missing a few hands I finally made it to a table.

Before all this, I had arrived very early and stumbled across a lone piece of paper on one of the empty tables stating that Nick Weathall was giving a one hour tutorial in the VIP room before the show started. I scampered off to find a starving crowd of about 20 who actually knew about this, and listened to Nick and Team PokerStars Ireland Pro Jude Ainsworth give a great seminar - and got some PokerStars goodies too. But, to quote www.ukipt.com, “unfortunately Jude went bust during level 4 when his nut flush was beaten by Daniel Sidebotham’s straight flash in one of the notable hands of the day”. Since Dumbledore had banned the use of the Petronus Curse (with so many muggles about in the card room), it’s almost impossible to beat a straight flash - unless your name is Hermonie.

I got off to a terrible start - hit full in the face with the deck - Aces three times, Kings twice, Queens, my A.J of hearts flopped three more hearts for a nut flush, my 7.8 suited made a straight and a flush, etc, etc. No one would play against me, I limped with Aces and checked to the end - and still only picked up 75 chips for the blinds! With the blinds 25-50 and a one hour clock I only managed to get an extra three to four thousand chips. Then nothing for the rest of the day, and endless stream of junk all the way to the end. But there was one proper poker player at my table - he had his hoodie pulled up over his face the whole time, cool sunglasses, iPod, serious jewlery - the lot.

And it was his turn at the end - he not only got huge cards, but he hit everything, knocking people out left, right and centre. When two new medium stacks arrived at the table in the last hour, they ended up going all-in against each other with monsters, but our hero called the two large all-ins with.....6.4 of course. Obviously the flop was 6.6.4 and two more bit the dust. So make a note ye mortals, if you ever see two solid players (with above average chips at the end of the day) go all-in -  and you look down to see 6.4, get in there my son.

Actually it was a bit boring ‘till Caroline "Mouth" Cove (as she was described earlier in this blog) turned up to play with us. Boy did that liven things up - luckily she did not perform the aforesaid ‘straight flash’ at the table.

The tournament structure is interesting, one hour blinds, eight levels and every two hours there is a 15 min break. So you start at Noon and finish at 8.45 pm. Quite civilized. A free meal voucher is provided and you have to fit your (very indifferent in my case) meal into the above structure. Coffee is £1.75 a cup - what a bloody stupid price - poor waitresses fiddling about with change at the tables while trying to balance a tray of other orders. I like to give them at least a small tip and so gave £2.50 each time - with a resulting cost of £10 for four smallish cups of equally indifferent coffee. Just don’t tell the mob at G Luton you can get the punters to pay for coffee.

So that’s it - all in all I didn’t get anywhere, but had a great day out for my 34 quid - thoroughly recommended.

tip 25p ldo ( and 5 coffees for the price of 4)

Also G Casino Luton has blackjack, roulette, and 3 card poker tables all of which make profit for the house. Casinos traditionally "comp" drinks to keep gamblers sat at tables so they can degen money to the house.

DTD is a poker club it does not not need to incentivize players to stay at tournament poker tables. We all (pretty much) want to stay there as long as we can!

Orpe, Coren or Boeree there yet?

No!

Any more and I will refuse to photograph them Sonny Jim!

According to Corens twitter updates she is there. She tweeted this an hour ago.

The player next to me has a golf game tomorrow. I said "What about day 2 of this?" and he roared with laughter. That's my kind of opponent.

BTW I asked for a Jon Spinks update but have just heard that he has been KO'd. Oops.

If possible can I get an update for Jon Spinks (original seat draw 46/1)

Also, Tikay and other longstanding members have highlighted the fact many times that they don't like the aggressive nature of the forum, so I can't imagine it becoming like 2+2 which makes this place look a playground.

Couldn't agree more. I like most new people on here joined as a direct result of the £300 updates but have found the forum to be extremely unwelcoming to new members. That surprised me as "Colchester Kev" who I met 1st of all is such a nice guy. In my experience posts from new members just get a flaming.

So much so that this is probably only about the 3rd/4th post I've ever made in a thread that is not a live update. (I only found this thread as I came through from M McCools blog)

I post on several other forums, all of which are far more friendly and helpful than this one.

in your first post you say you work for another poker forum.

Not sure what your point/question is.

If it's a Q, then I would just clarify that I do not now or have I ever worked for another forum.

Yes I did help out on "PokerTourRadio.com" doing interviews/updates at several large poker events including some DTD ones and on the one and only time we covered the £300 deepstack event via "live audio stream" I did help out with the commentary.

The venture has been put into moth balls and has not covered any event for several months and it looks unlikely that it ever will again. So I have no connection with them anymore.

Shame really as I really enjoyed the £300 deepstack weekends at DTD. Though I was not involved in the financial side of the website I can reasonably assume that it was just too expensive to put on without a sponsor as I'm sure the people who run Blonde can appreciate.

The show was starting to get really popular, when we covered the event live we had the bandwidth for 1,000 listeners and it maxed out, so the interest was certainly there.

My love of live poker remains strong and that's why I always follow the updates on blonde (unless I'm actually playing the event) and I, perhaps more than most, can appreciate how incredibly hard the up-daters work.
