I understand his sentiment, but he lacks any credibility for actually showing up and playing stars events.

Crikey, very nice. How much did he get, George?

Not bad considering he must be almost "old-school" these days.

No business, according to the Pokerstars blog.

Quite interesting in following this as i try to branch out into other revenue streams aswell. As someone who is potentially looking into getting a buy to let it seems tricky if you are a poker player. I have bought my own flat outright with no mortgage, but as far as I'm aware I'm unable to get a mortgage even if i put say a 40% deposit down on a buy to let. Am i right in thinking this? if so is there anyway around it?

Yes, you won't get a BTL mortgage as a poker player no matter what the size of your deposit. All of my houses are in a joint name with my wife who has a job so the in affordability is based off her earnings. It wasn't always like this my first ever mortgage I was able to self certify my earnings as a pro poker player! Lending criteria has changed a lot since then. hope this helps.

yeh this all makes sense unfortunately, thank you

I'd be pretty happy folding here unless i had a read.

SB defending range shouldn't be that wide here, we have zero Diamond blockers and the large river sizing 3 way OOP in a spot where its hard for him to have many bluffs make me happy to fold. I don't play that much live so could call if they are particularly fishy

Not to single you out, but i also think there's abit of naivety on some MTT'ers behalf. Just because rakeback isn't a major source of income the sheer influx of mid/high cash game and SNG players into mid buyin MTT's will probably be greater than the number of pro's who leave the game. Everyones bottom line is getting cut in a roundabout way and that includes pro's who play on alternative sites

A bit melodramatic but fairly apt  Cheesy

First they came for the communists, and I did not speak out - because I was not a communist;
Then they came for the socialists, and I did not speak out - because I was not a socialist;
Then they came for the trade unionists, and I did not speak out - because I was not a trade unionist;
Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out - because I was not a Jew;
Then they came for me - and there was no one left to speak out for me.

Seems pretty pointless to me. Unless people abstain long term nothing will change

This may be true, but when rake is hiked and you keep getting backed into a corner you've got to draw a line in the sand somewhere. If its fruitless, we all know that bit sooner and can make contingency plans. If nothing is done the result is inevitable anyway. At this point there is no harm in trying something that might leverage some sort of communication never mind negotiation.

Make no mistake Mtt'ers your games will be significantly affected with the influx of cash and sng regs turning to Mtt's next yr.

I randomly bumped into him in Newcastle 3 years ago, think he was mainly over it and I'm guessing not doing great as i heard he was getting backed at some point. I don't  think his family were keen on him playing poker and I'd hazard a guess this played a factor in him quitting.
