10021  Poker Forums / The Rail / Re: Reasons why I ask is it worth it? on: August 13, 2010, 03:03:17 PM
One of the things that irratates me more than anything in these situations is people that come on threads like this and say...

"when will you idiots learn not to lend people money"
"you knew he was shady, so you get what you deserve imo"
"what, WTF are people wishing him good luck when he's ripped people off for $40k"

when i started out in poker it was an absolute dream, Spent all day lounging about, going on ridiculous night outs, expensive meals £100-200 btls of wine, drunken sessions in the pits, BALLIN about i called it.

I had a pretty big BR, then i got into a financial commitment with my family i couldnt get out of cos id "loose face" (ended up lying and continiung to lie to my own family) I refused to stop BALLLIN about just thought "meh it'l all be - it normally is" then i ran spark out of money, as in £0.00, was winning at poker, but making bad decision after bad decision and my pathetic lust for the "lifestyle" had drained me - i got into a big debt hole, but not from grimming, I went to my friends, and explained the situation, they lent me money (quite a bit between them) I took longer than i promised to pay the money back which dissapointed me, but I got it sorted.

Without this help it would have been GG, GTFO, WP, do you have a tesco clubcard for me, so im in debted to my friends for this and hope an oppurtunity to repay their kindness comes up in the future. so people saying "why do you continue to lend your "poker-friends" money, when will you learn" can gfy because its not all like this - I've lost tons of money lifetime from lending/swaps etc, im shrewder now, but im still too niave and semi easy to grim, and I hope i never change. People who can log onto forums and make blanket statements like this have no clue about how the poker world operates...

So i understand how this situation crops up, and its FKIN EASY to find urself in it.

The point of this is. poker brings the worst in people out, its not like anything else where procedure and guildlines govern behaviour, people like Marc (who i'v known personally for a while) who are not bad guys at the core, become obsessed and fixated by the poker world (and experiences like the ones i mention)  - not the game itself, but the ego-driven, imagine essential bullshit that drives people like Marc to what he is now, self-obsessed and deluded about what important, and sacrificed friends/decentcy etc to maintain this pointless appearance.

The week before Marc's $232k bink I was chatting to him and he said he wanted a break from poker, said he had 100% belief in his MTT game but HE was his own worst enemy (too degen...) 2weeks later, on "last chance sunday" he's won $232k and playing CTS and Skjervoy 25/50 on stars....

i refuse to flame the guy, or wish him GL either for that matter cos he's lied to me a lot (trying to nip me even the is week before all this came out) but tell him what he already knows, your a fkin idiot marc, no-one doubts your sick at MTTs, you can make money from poker for sure, but no-one was ever impressed with the whole ego, brovado, big guy show in the first place so from this moment on drop it, get your head in order, and start afresh. I dont doubt for a second that you'll be back, and next time, forget imagine, STUPID P5s leaderboards, AND play it straight ffs. And Im not saying this from an arrogant judgemental viewpoint, someone has been through similar times, and wouldn't mind seeing you back on your feet.

This stuff is always going to happen, cos this is poker. And WP to COS yet again....you're nearly in position now to borrow unlimited amounts of anyone on here lol, epic pre-grim?

[/quote]
As long as there are people around who will hero worship others simply because they like to throw their cash around and play the big I am, there will be those that play up to it to make them feel good about themselves, in several cases going to extreme measures not to shatter the illusion.  Seems to be a lot of this about over the last year or two, probably due, I would imagine, to the increase in the number of young players around who bink a decent score or two, having never learnt the true value of money by working hard for it.  I can't see many of these stories ending happily.  The hero worshippers will grow up and what will become of their former idols I don't know.  With poker being so mainstream now though I can't see it being a trend that's going to stop any time soon with new players coming of age (chronologically anyway) every day.

I have read that back and it sounds extremely patronising. not meant to, and certainly not implying that anything but a small minority of the young guys have this mindset, but i'm not great at articulating stuff sometimes.

This is extremely patronising, and suggesting that only a handful of the "young guys" have this mindset is complete drivel.

Don't know if it was a joke or not but somebody on the 2+2 thread mentioned Jamie Sykes intended to loan him $50k  Shocked

If you really dont know if that is a joke Murf, then fyl.

Any stats on the guy? I never use a hud but I did when i played 9max, in these spots if they had a 3bet % of over 4/5% id stick it in, under id fold this and QQ.

so sigh, you have AK though.

I just asked a friend of mine who plays FR all the time on skype and he says make it $115 and fold to a shove. This is Rush they might fold JJ/QQ here
10023  Poker Forums / Poker Hand Analysis / What type of Villian do we call against here? on: August 07, 2010, 03:44:43 PM
got into a spot vs a pretty much unknown player during my 6max adventures today (normally only play HU)

This is what i knew of the player at the time, 1) Id never seen him before (but i rarely play 100plo 6max) 2) he had been stacked before and topped up to 200bbs 3) he was one tabling 4) his Vpip was 66% (but tiny sample)

10026  Poker Forums / Poker Hand Analysis / Re: Is this an easy call or an insta fold ? on: August 07, 2010, 12:57:15 PM
He wasn't very impressed with my call, which is why i thought i'd ask for your thoughts on this board.
I went on to win the comp. Which was nice. Smiley

Iv noticed when playing live poker people often fistpump when they get there money in ahead, and then berate you when you draw out.......
Seems pretty stupid.

Congrats !

I always just keep in my head and suited Ace has min 30% equity vs A TIGHT 3bet calling range, so for that reason id snap it off in this spot.
10027  Poker Forums / Poker Hand Analysis / Re: i preferred my life when i didnt v bet rivers! on: August 07, 2010, 12:17:28 PM
I think id rather bet/call turn and check/fold river.

Altho as my great mentor in the Thin Valuebetting world told me, if you dont valuebet too thin you dont value bet enough Smiley

also, wtf is marc karam doing play 100fr rush? rakeback whore all of a sudden?
10028  Poker Forums / Poker Hand Analysis / Re: Live Cash Hand. Deep. on: August 07, 2010, 12:14:18 PM
Personally i think c/c>>betting>>c/r the turn in this spot. We have good showdown value, with cards which villian is likely to bluff at on the river if we hit (any ace/queen BDFD)

River is fairly tough, the fact that he turned AK into a bluff here shows hes pretty terrible and you were thinking along the right lines. Assuming your correct and he is 3betting alot, think about how much of his range you will usually beat here. Just a rather unfortunate spot where you ran into the tip top of his range (hate to use them cliche's).

Idk, my hand looks a lot like 66/77 and he can rep an OP pretty credibly so im not sure turning AK into a bluff is nessercarily a bad thing, hence why i wondered at the tme if i should be raising to like £425 or something incase he's doing this with a better hand (i dont think so in hiensight as this is the smack top of his bluffing range - or the bottom of his value range lol whichever way u look at it) i always like to c/raise in hero spots where i dont beat 100% of his bluffing range, but in situations where he only 1 hand in his bluffing range that beats me, and h would mostly check it back then i dont think c/r is good.
10029  Poker Forums / Poker Hand Analysis / Re: Another Live Cash hand! on: August 05, 2010, 09:14:02 PM
and jamming turn is tez because you could be drawing dead alot. Theres also the issue of balance when you have a set/2pair in this spot, but i guess the issue of exploitation doesn't matter in live cash games.

THIS. I did fold in the end. just didnt think that he would c/jam £1000 with an 8 alone here, not this player, and i defo dont think he c/called a naked 8 on the flop.

I think he either flopped KQ or was spazzing out with some sort of  hand, but that seems unlikely knowing this player
10030  Poker Forums / Poker Hand Analysis / Re: 99 5 handed at the end of a 45 man sng on: August 05, 2010, 06:43:02 PM
Iv been identified as a SNG fish before so apologies if this is BS. Im pretty sure this is a pure maths/ICM thing.

   equity    win    tie          pots won    pots tied
Hand 0:    32.839%     32.39%    00.45%        7383039956    101896127.00   { 9c9s }
Hand 1:    32.054%     30.85%    01.21%        7030578226    275442335.00   { 77+, A7s+, KTs+, QTs+, JTs, T9s, 98s, ATo+, KQo }
Hand 2:    35.107%     33.89%    01.21%        7725245696    276695172.00   { 77+, ATs+, KTs+, QJs, JTs, AJo+, KQo }

In idenitfing these ranges I figured the guy opening would be reasonable (top 13-15%) and the 3bettor will be SLIGHTLY wider than normal given that there is the semblance of some fold equity (allbeit very little)

so if you have 32% in this spot its a snap click it in, espcially if tankster folds in which case your in a great situation, but this is when someone comes along with the ICM calculation and says its a fold, which Im thinking it probably will be, given that you'll be on the button next hand.

Upshot is I really dont know...do i score a healthy 2/10 for posting something useful or is that ambitous?
10031  Poker Forums / Poker Hand Analysis / Re: Another Live Cash hand! on: August 05, 2010, 06:09:43 PM
How many do we put in villains range here.

68/78/89/8T/J8/Q8 suited, and 88 and A8 from his preflop limp call ok.

I think he is very inlikely to call £115 with just an 8 on the flop, given that my range on the flop is going to include a lot of draws i thin he'd c/fold naked 68/A8 here.
because the 9T of dimonds are down (and i have the QJ of blue) we can rule out 4 combo's of imo. Then consider how unlikley he is to call the fflop with naked 68 and A8, plus how likely he would be to raise the flop with  I think you can rule about 5 8 combo's out for sure.

Also with a naked 8 I think he is very unlikely to c/jam the turn, bearing in mind he could be getting freerolled a ton, he would do this with  i think.
so KQ aside, which i think he raises the flop quite a bit Im struggling to think what he has that i loose to,  ? ?

Board:
Dead:

   equity    win    tie          pots won    pots tied
Hand 0:    32.528%     31.93%    00.60%               562           10.50   { QdJd }
Hand 1:    67.472%     66.88%    00.60%              1177           10.50   { AcAd, AdAh, AdAs, JcJh, JcJs, JhJs, TcTh, TcTs, ThTs, 9c9h, 9c9s, 9h9s, 88, AdKd, Ad8d, KcQc, KhQh, KsQs, JcTc, JhTh, JsTs, Tc8c, Th8h, Ts8s, 9c8c, 9h8h, 9s8s, 87s, AdQc, KcQh, KcQs, KhQc, KhQs, KsQc, KsQh, 8d7c }

which is incidently exactly the same as if he had all 8's lol
10032  Poker Forums / Poker Hand Analysis / Re: Mantis and Cos on: August 05, 2010, 05:03:04 PM
tbf lildave if you did try and punch keys it would probably hit him on the ankle

which brings us to the question - who would you rather fight 1 james keys sized lildave, or 50 lildave sized james keys?
10033  Poker Forums / Poker Hand Analysis / Re: Mantis and Cos on: August 05, 2010, 04:32:45 PM
Iv been following the thread excitedly since it began but have gotten a little lost if someone could clear this up for me!?

1)are Mantis and Cos friends now? talk of drinking together has been sprouted :S

2) is the fued now between James Keys and Mantis? if so how the hell did that happen?!?!>£K"ER

3) has the grudge match been cancelled?

4) is there going to be a james keys/mantis grudge HU match instead?

5) why is James Keys getting punched? Whenever Iv met him he's come across as a really nice, pleasant guy, I would certainly rank him very low on the list of people I would like to punch.

6) I had a similar spot to Mantis on 2+2 once when someone called me out for being tez at poker, posted a screenshot of my PTR -$11k and said i was a loosing player etc shudnt be posting on forums. I would ordinarily just ignore this cos I dont really have anythign to prove, but because it was a personal attack on me I just stuck a 160k hand graph showing lots of profit in his eye (then got drunk and insulted his family hence why i dont post on 2+2 anymore) obv shudnt insult people's family but i dont understand why Mantis doesn't just tell everyone his screen names, he doesnt pretend to play for a living so I dont see what difference it makes? (again Mantis no offence that was genuinely wanting to help comment)

Also I never understand why people think their ability to "stand up for their integrity" defines them as a man, spesh in a faceless indentityless platform like this. Surely if you hve character and integrity, the last thing ud need to do is demonstrate that to the world? Standing by what you think = respecting/keeping an open mind to other peoples opinions, whilst remaining confident in your own, how exactly is James supposed to "stand by his post" by punching you in the face, i dont get it.

And standing by a poker opinion is a really stupid idea, kinda the opposite to the idea of PHA, you post opinions so others can critique them, sometimes people say stuff r.e my posts i disagree with completely but you're not always playing opponents that think like you, so reading aand understanding other people's thought processes is a vital part to improving @ poker imo...

Having said that posts like "bladabladabla if that is the case what is the point in this thread" are not helpful

10034  Poker Forums / The Rail / Re: Vote for DTD, Blondepoker, Flushy and Grandad in the British Poker Awards on: August 05, 2010, 11:18:56 AM
Id be interested to know who actually compiled the lists?

It feels to me like it wasn't anyone from actually INSIDE the poker world.

i.e Best ONLINE player

Chris “Moorman1” Moorman
Richard “Chufty” Ashby
Lawrence “Rivermanl” Houghton
Luke “__FullFlush1__” Schwartz
Ben “milkybarkid” Grundy

How was this list compiled? seems the same way as every other list and by profile, in which case seems pointless to have an award.

in the interests of joining in i voted flushy/blonde why the hell not!
10035  Poker Forums / Poker Hand Analysis / Re: Mantis and Cos on: August 05, 2010, 06:45:30 AM
Why not let Mantis fight a horse sized duck and if he wins he's allowed to post whatever he wants?

Also just a thought, it seems as if the COS/MANTIS debate has left who's better at poker and become personal, so would playing even settle this?
