I really don't believe Maggie would have done a "good job" handling brexit negotiations, this is no reflection on her, I'm sure she would be a much better and tougher negotiator than TM, but a "good job" of handling brexit just doesn't exist, it is 100% truly absolutely impossible, I fully believe this.

The situation isn't Tory made or Labour made, the UK political system is in dissaray and it's the fault of all parties, the system is falling to pieces and there is no sign of anyone fixing it any time soon.

Dave, I am pretty sure you ain't old enough to know. It can only be through hyperbole that you know Maggie?

I dont know about Thatcher no, my point was no reflection on her as a politician, my point is I dont believe ANYONE living or dead could handle brexit "well" i believe that it is impossible and given that i believe its impossible by extension i dont believe Maggie could have done it Smiley

I might be wrong but I really don't think I am !

She struck me as a classic sociopath in her interview, kind of the perfect target for stuff like this...

It's a totally miserable situation I can't come to an opinion on it, on the one hand you have someone who has actively supported and i imagine contributed to serious terrorism, for whom is going to cost a lot of money to take care off...

Then on the other hand you have a heavily pregnant 19yr old girl, who will be left in possibly the most dangerous place in the world. Part of the UKs ideology is that won't happen to UK citizens...

its horrible, makes me so sad there is enough hate in the world that this stuff can happen.

I kinda feel like the greater good might be to refuse here, set a precedent that might need setting. Politically its another impossible spot, I hate Theresa May and think this government is horrible but fuck they have run pretty terrible.

So much sense in one post. This exactly.

The idea that a government can ‘run bad’ makes sense only inasmuch that they keep getting 75BBs in pre as 40/60 dogs, and they aren’t Ali Mallu winning any of them.

I mean i believe she'd have fucked up in any set of circumstances but just so happens TM has prime minister'd during a period where no single person alive or dead would have been able to do a successful job.

I'm trying to hit it as far as possible it's just not going very far!

Coach says I have a pretty slow swing, (slower than average) whereas it's for sure true most of the power/distance comes from technique he said I could certainly add a decent chunk of power to the swing just by swinging it a little harder, the standard way he'd teach a newcomer would be to have them swing a little harder from the get-go and add the technique in but for whatever reason I'm doing it this way and it shouldn't be too much trouble to build in some more club head speed once my technique is better. Everyone learning apparently has something they do sub-par "to be addressed later" and this is my thing!

I was a shade over 30mph slower than he was (clubhead speed) with a decently hit 7 iron.

I'll be blazing it soon enough Smiley

I love that line - 'should I put you down for a 7?'

god bless her optimism, id done the last 4 holes in about 40 shots and was playing 3 from knee deep in a swamp

hark at him with his caddy.

caddy's mandatory in thailand!

Was a few franky eye rolls when they tell him its 140 yards and he hits it plum and goes 30 yards past, overall though they are pretty high morale characters. Quite a lot of subtle, hilarious, unintentional needles too, I really enjoy "bye - bye" as you've blazed the tee-shot into the woods. One referred to me as "Mr. Nam" (Mr. Water) for a little bit after a few holes blasting balls into the water Cheesy

Best thing about the caddys in thailand though is they are absolute ninjas at finding lost balls, fire it off into oblivion thinking thats the last we'll be seeing of that ball and they scurry off with a couple of clubs and come back a few minutes later with it, they cost about £20 a round with a decent tip etc so when you finding the drink as often as some of us you can come out net plus off the caddy hire! 1 hole I went into the water 3 times and ended up 1 ball up on the hole!!

I’m also terrible but enthusiastic.

Shout if you want to come to Foxhills for a round / par 3 (nice par 3) / range / luncheon.

can count me innnnnnnnnn

Wow sick advice all over thanks everyone, loving the golf grind, all i wanna do is go to the driving range when i wake up Smiley

All this "dont do this" stuff every single one i read my first thought was "yep, been doing that" so gonna be thinking all this over for surrrrrrre.

Good luck Dave. Keep that head still and focussed on the ball. Too easy to sometimes think you are, when you probably are just looking blankly down.

Defo this, im staring at nothing with my head down saying "dont move your head, dont move your head, dont move your head" a million times when im just stood like some idiot rigidly cant even see the ball im starring so hard Cheesy

I'm not hitting it very far, which is sort of a problem sort of not, the courses we played in thailand had a few holes around the 550-600 yrd mark which obv gonna take a while to fire along, but like titty says straight and short better than long and behind a tree!

Best advice is to maintain a sense of humour on the course, avoid slow play and have fun!!!!!

Yeah defo, good thing about being my level is that realistically lots of shots will be bad and there isn't really any pressure on any specific holes, I'm absolutely loving a bogey and if i run off an 11 on a hole it's just like, well thats gonna happen innit and we walk on, there's still victories in all holes, if i go round the houses and take 8 to get to edge of the green then slide a nice up and down in there technically that's a 10 but i'm walking off the hole kinda loving it. When I nail a hole i'm rushing so hard that could have gone 12 / 12 / 12 last three and wouldn't really care. So, and this goes 10x when i was playing in thailand where it's 30 degrees and stunning courses, worst case scenario i'm with my pals having a laugh and best case scenario I'm doing all that + playing well. So it's close to impossible for me not to enjoy myself playing, I think it suits me overall does golf, I'm pretty chilled in general and dont really lose my head all that often, I'm also not that competitive so can still get bashed up and enjoy myself.

This being said I had one huge headloss moment out in thailand and got punished massively for it, hit maybe best drive ever on a tough driving hole after 5 holes playing total filth, 160 yards in I was determined I wanted to go wedge/wedge as short game had been ok and I really fancied getting to the green in 2 that way, caddy was adament I should go for a 6iron but I just didn't fancy it all, succumbed to her pressure though, naturally cranked the 6 and rolled off into a swamp. Go to collect my ball, absolutely RAGING, rather than calmly and respectfully pick my ball up I elect to angrily swing my club at it, got the club caught on some vine and next thing I know i'm knee deep in this swamp gettin gpulled out by my 5ft 5in female thai caddy...

Franky, who'd gone off badly left from his tee shot, left me at the tee plump in the fairway, we met up again at the next tee and somehow I'd not finished the hole and was covered in mud. The caddy handed me the driver for the next hole I'm still fuming and she says to me "shall I put you down for a 7?" nearly swung the driver at her Cheesy  (at this point i was still blaming her entirely for this swamp incident)

Luckily there was a guy doing some gardening he hosed me down and actually played easily best golf of the round post swamp!

been back a few days, feeling quite depressed about being back in london truth be told, trying to remind myself not to be an entitled little bitch and to thank my stars I was lucky enough to spend 6 weeks swimming, drinking, eating and being looked after by an army of endlessly accommodating thai ladies...and to make my own breakfast Smiley

Foray into golf been a real challenge, obviously finding it incredibly hard, any tips would go down great.

Back to work i guess!

Hi David, I'll try and steer you in the right direction for golf.

Find the nearest golf club to where you live or driving range if that is more convenient and book yourself some lessons, most pros will offer six lessons for the price of five or something similar. Make sure that he's a good teaching pro by doing a little research, although most are decent. Then you'll have to practice either on the range or the golf club's practice area if that is included in your lesson deal. You'll need to practice several times in between each lesson to reap the maximum benefit from them, but slowly and surely you will improve and that improvement will spur you on if you're serious which I feel that you are.

Unfortunately there is no short-cut to becoming a reasonably proficient golfer, but if you've got the bug which it sound as though you have, you'll persevere.

Good luck.

Hey mate, amazing thanks Smiley

I'm one step ahead of you on the lesson front, found a good coach who i get on with really well, currently working on a Lesson /2x range sessions / ratio and just trying to drill in what he's telling me.

First time ever played a course was thailand abso loved it, I thought i thailand my biggest leak was lifting/turning my head during the swing, and i started saying to myself 1000 times a round "keep your head still, keep your head still" and was still happening to an extent, turns out i've gotten into this bad habbit of, rather than moving my body through as you're supposed to, just turning my upper body and causing me to lean back some. It's so fucking hard all this stuff, the thumb on my right hand wasn't in the right position which the coach informs me is "a big problem," so yep I'm sure you're right when you say there is no short cuts at golf!!!

It is fun doing something that requires a LOT of concentration though, as you find yourself easily switching off from the rest of the world as there is no mental capacity to be thinking about swinging a golf club (do this with your body, stand like that, put your thumb here etc) and anything else at all... so it's a wonderful way to switch off, it's a nice mix of physical, mental, strategic, just a really cool game almost annoyed couldn't get into it sooner Cheesy

3 Goals for the year are;

Make Money
Plan my Wedding
Get better at golf.

But in reality if covered the years costs, didn't plan any wedding but got really good at golf i'd be loving it Cheesy

Thank you.

I was starting to think it was just me with everyone having a downer on 5/6O but I love it (and all DC games) for exactly the reasons you outline. As a rec I love the maths, the thinking, the variance and the fact I'm either going to win or lose big, but I'll never be bored. Plus the banter and craic is always worth the entry fee when compared to personality-free oxygen thiefs who play nlhe at the levels I can afford.

Yeh, definitely, in theory 6card should be less gambling than 4card, but this is theory, not practice and every poker game is different - it just depends on what the vibe of the players is at the time, if 7 aggro guys wanna play 100bb+ deep and all happy swinging about and battling, NLHE or 4card PLO is probably the best game for those guys. If it's a mix of players, some kinda passive, some kind of aggro then sure 6card could defo be the right choice. I'm a poker enthusiast at heart, if I had to pick my ideal poker game it would be in a 6handed 4card game, 200bb stacks where everyone goes to war, but I can enjoy virtually any type of poker game as long as the company is right and the stakes have enough of a bite to them, no-one is taking it too seriously and people aren't evidently gambling too high and getting upset about losing.
