All day pyjamas is a thing now, apparently.
I can understand how hard this must be for you though- I remember a few pages back you were complaining about dressing gowns anywhere even at home.
I've taken your advice and switched shower gel for a bar of soap though- much better.
See, people are reading!

You say nationalistic illusion of self determination, I say actual democratic independence. Tomato, tomato.
The latter is worth the short term inconvenience and pain.
And for people who voted for control of borders and a reduction of immigration, leaving will likely bring about the change they voted for. Again the pain will be worth it.
The scare mongering and accusations of nationalism - near always used in the perjorative voice - didn't win the argument before the vote, and they are unlikely to affect change in hearts and minds now
I think there's some cognitive dissonance going on here (if not on your part than at least on some people who are stating this viewpoint). I really don't think that most people who voted leave thought they were signing up for years of misery to make the great leap to democratic freedom. Now the reality of a no deal Brexit is becoming clear to some people, they are telling themselves and others that they were actually self sacrificing freedom fighters, because to admit otherwise would be to admit they were daft enough to be duped in the first place, and their self esteem won't allow them to do that.

Used to love Benny Hill & Fawlty Towers, not so much Monty Python. But those shows were like 40/50yrs ago, don't even think they'd be allowed on the telly box these days.
As we move forward and reach out to the world to form new partnerships I don't think this kind of humour would be the right image. Maybe I'm wrong though and slapping a small bald man on the head, chasing scantily clad women around and battering Spanish waiters is still hilarious to the world.
Trying to articulate my offence at baby balloon is difficult. I think Britain needs to show our quintessential attributes like class & dignity, demonstrate our hospitality to visitors when the world is watching. I get Trump is a bad egg but he is the current incumbent in the position of US president. Looking at things objectively we are saying the US president is not welcome and I'm having a hard time with that concept. Millions voted for him and we must have caused unnecessary offence. I don't get how democracy works these days, the people voted for Trump, Brexit and rejected Scottish independence but there is a lot of resistance and rejection. Think it's worrying.
I heard Corbyn took part in the anti-Trump march. Again I don't get what happens to Anglo-American relations if he becomes PM. Certainly the highest level of special relationship deflates like a punctured balloon.
I think it depends on how bad you think an egg he is. Is he just a bad politician bad egg, in which case we should roll out the red carpet like we have to plenty of other unpopular presidents, or is he something worse where we should think about having nothing to do with him. How bad an egg he is up to you, but you must agree it's possible for America to elect a president so bad that British people should boycott him, regardless of the job he has.

Courtesy of Radio Four I learned today, with maximum flabbergastery, that AI is not allowed for racing thoroughbreds.
Say what? Why is that, and how the Hell do they enforce it?
(he means artificial insemination, not robot brains for horses) A reason I heard is that without the need for some physical presence, only a few studs would be able to father the entire next generation's horses and things would get too imbred. I think it's just the way things are done though. Lots of people would lose their jobs if there was only a turkey baster needed. And everyone probably makes more money this way.

I don't see how you two think this will make any difference to the man in the north korean street, or how they are one step further away from tyranny. If anything, this whole thing solidifies Kim's grip on power.
I think it's good that the summit happened, and it's probably preferable to millions of people dying in bloody war.

As stolen from the Economist here is all the times we've been here before: Click to see full-size image. |
So yes, if this time it sticks and Kim actually does give up trying to make nuclear rockets, it's a big Trump success. I think it's a small Trump success that any talks at all happened- it's good to talk right? The big prize is a better life for North Koreans.
