I wouldn't say that I was fistpumping as I put them in, but I was pretty happy about it. My level of analysis as an occasional player is miles below that many within this thread have contributed, but essentially my thoughts before sticking them over the line went....

Man who led almost certainly has a big ace. Man who called (original raiser pre) has Ax or big heart combo. 2nd caller of the 23 has almost literally anything (no disrespect meant but he was an Italian fish).

I didn't expect the jam to get through everyone, but there was c£225 in pot as it comes to me. The jam is £275 for the 3bettor to call, whilst it would be £225 for the OR. Italian not folding.whatever.

Sets would obv not fold (i can still get there), big aces shouldn't but might (and if called I am a fav). Against two big hearts I'm in good shape if they want to gamble. Two small hearts obv I have the nuts.

This was why I felt relatively 'straightforward' but wanted other opinions. Essentially I'm neither (a) experienced enough to.amalyse the situation properly, (b) ever passing such w beautiful hand in game.

Likely range when he leads is, imo, perhaps even as narrow as AK and AQ. Small chance of KK/QQ he's looking to fire once and get through given his hand looks a lot like the former?

For me I ruled out sets as I think he peels 99 (to which we have a blocker anyway) and 77. Aces are possible, until he gets called in two spots which imo suggests at least one of these two has an ace, making it pretty cold for villain to have thr remaining two.

If we call and hit a heart I'd be surprised if any more money makes its way into the pot.

Never folding.

If we stick it in his eye the only hands he is likely to call with imo are Aces (which I ruled unlikely) and AK. I actually thought given the strength of my play AK might require a little extended thought on his part?

Also we're over 50% against any big ace hand if called...

I am playing c£500, image competent if a little overly aggro.

Preflop: Utg (c£300) opens to £8, serial caller (c£150) calls MP. We peel 8h9h in the cut off. Villain (£350) raises to £23 from the SB. Have played with him once before, c50yrs old Asian gentleman who seems to play very straight. All call.

Flop (£94): Ah9d7h

Villain leads £50, two quick calls and the pot is £224 when it comes to us. Villain has c£275 back, UTG raiser c£225, serial caller clearly committed.

We? Think its a fairly straightforward spot but would be interested to see other opinions.

HH from tonight. Guess that hands. Post ITT 1) who wins and 2) a guess as to what both have. Closest gets a prize.

Tom Walster is in the straddle (4). Folds rounds to Terry in the small blind who raises to £15. Mitch calls from the BB. Tom makes it £55. Both call.

check, check, Tom bets 100, fold, Mitch calls.

check, Tom bets 250, Mitch calls.

check, Tom fairly quickly moves all in, covering Mitch, who has 950 behind. Mitch thinks for ages and calls.

The incredulous tone of your post suggests Mitch did a get there, so I'm going to plump for him winning the hand.

The fact you have seen fit to comment on Mitch getting there, which by all accounts seems a relatively common occurrence suggests it was fairly grubby, so I'm going to go with Mitch peeling flop and turn with a seven and a ten.

Pocket for Tom and 10c for Mitch please.

1) I was a baby again Sad Seems to happen sporadically once every few months. A series of hands or events leads to me losing my head and acting like an idiot. I was complaining, moaning and generally being a bit of a douche.

Ran pretty terrible last night as well on the 1/2 but kept morale high, kept my dignity and was in good spirits all night and actually had a pretty fun time despite losing a chunk. But tonight was different and I'm really annoyed that I haven't nipped this unfortunate habit in the bud, especially when I addressed it as a weakness months ago. You'd think that winning 35k would make me immune to anything that can happen at a 50/1 table tilting me. Turns out this is not the case.

Alex,

Not sure if I mentioned it before, but if not, now is probably as good a time as any. Last time I was back up at DTD you played a hand where you raised a couple of limpers with a King and a King, and found a couple of callers. The flop came 10-6-2 (or similar) with one spade. The limper somehow gets in c£500 on the flop against you with the mighty 10s-3s. Mbn. Runs out spade, spade, and you get gubbed in a healthy pot.

Genuinely, you showed no outward emotion. Obv those who play for a living every day see things like this plenty, but I was still impressed to see you neither (a) wince, (b) moan, (c) tilt. More of this please.

£35k will not make you immune to the emotions of any table, even a 50/1. A close relation of mine (father ldo) will still regale me with tales of winning £x here and £x there, for this is where his enjoyment lies. He knows in the long run he will be a loser in the game, but he plays for the challenge and the emotional highs derived from a winning session. Your job is to be there and take his money quietly when he has a losing session, and ensure that he feels good enough when he wins to come back next time. Your positive expectation, driven by a skill-divide Vs other players in the game, is as flimsy as your ability to balance (a) your emotions and (b) the longevity of the losing players in the game.

This isn't meant as criticism at all should it have come across as such. I genuinely enjoy this diary and sincerely hope you are back to winning ways soon. Will pop over and say hello if I make it up this weekend.

Cheers, Ed

In order to stop teh freeze out, just send him a text saying not to worry about the 100 he owes, but for him not to ask you for money again as it makes you feel uncomfortable (Im assuming you still want to be his friend?)

if our image is really active that makes hand 2 even worse fwiw

Yep. Retrospectively pretty disappointed in myself. Not monster money on the line but had played so well for so long that to butcher things like this was rather frustrating.

Thanks all for comments, genuinely appreciated.

I have been very active, am wearing a cardigan tied around my neck, and everyone knows I have been at it a lot.

Should we be taking into consideration how much the way that we're dressed in this spot is tilting our opposition?

First hand is obv a jam. Second hand is a fold, as tempting as it might be, especially given that you're aware that people think you're at it a bunch.

'Cardigan-around-the-neck-as-per-streets-of-Nice look' is definitely tilting people. Forgot to adjust accordingly, which is disappointing.

effective stacks in hand 1? probs 3b/call if theres people w more behind but jam if not

hand 2 is a trivial fold and you lose a lot of money by doing anything but folding

145k. He is largest stack from whom there can still be action.

As mentioned previously I was 99.9% confident with my decision in hand 1 (I jammed fwiw only to brick against OR's jacks and jacks of the BB).

Hand 2, now I see it in the cold light of day, written in horribly simple size 10 font in front of me, I butchered.

[ ] Folded
[ ] Called
[ x ] Jammed

(Presumably) flawed logic was that the OR may struggle to call with a caller behind him, and the caller may struggle to call given 'strength' of my jam from the SB and fact he had seen me jam AK but 10mins before.
2155  Poker Forums / Poker Hand Analysis / Super50 Downfall - Two MTT Spots on: July 11, 2011, 11:20:37 AM
Background:

DTD Super50, 197 runners started so 1.97mil chips in play total. We are down to 16 and the bubble has just burst. I have been very active, am wearing a cardigan tied around my neck, and everyone knows I have been at it a lot. This said, few live players wish to call off 15BB stacks at this stage imo. I am playing 260k, another young chap has c400k, leaving 1.3mil between the other 13 players. I rate my chances over the others at the table (thinly veiled brag), but the very nature of the structure suggests this won't come down solely to skill.

Hand One:

8 handed blinds are 4k-8k with a running ante of 800. Blind level just begun. Pot is 18.4k.

Folds to a chap UTG+2 who raises to 30k from c145k. He is middle aged, seems very ABC, and has recently folded A-Q to a 3bet. Folds to us a couple of spots along where we find A-Ko.

I know absolutely naff all about the technical side of things (ICM considerations etc.) but I am confident that, with this player having opened to 30k in that position, he will not fold to a jam.

Do we....

(a) Call and re-evaluate the flop
(b) Jam
(c) Fold

I am 99.9% I took the correct option in this hand.

Hand Two:

7 handed blinds are 4k-8k with a running ante of 800. Blinds going up in c10mins. Pot is 17.6k.

We are playing c145k, and are in the SB. BB playing c80k.

UTG (Frankie fwiw) opens to 22k playing c115k. We have history where I have overbet shoved the river, pushing him off top pair, and generally been a pain in the arse attacking his BB from the button persistently.

Villain from previous hand calls 22k playing c160k.

We look down at    in the SB and....

(a) Fold
(b) Call
(c) Jam

Cheers, Ed

The 6/5 about Harrison is, without a doubt, the best bet I have had all year. Most likely outcome ainec is money back as market void if neither cashes, but I reckon I am 50/1 or bigger to do my dough.

Brag: Audley through to day 2 according to his Twitter, (albeit very short).

Beat: I now read Audley Harrison's Twitter.

Just turned 25 Jason. Live and work in London so don't get to DTD much - only really when I come back up to visit the family.

Recreational player who likes to believe I have a decent grasp of the game (if ill disciplined at times), and probably best known for being the son of one of the 1-2 / 2-5 regfishes.

Similar sigh from me in the super50.

With 16 left and playing 260k (1.9mil in play total) I get 145k in with AK Vs JJ Vs JJ and whiff the lot. If I get there I'm holding 550k/1.9mil with 14 left Sad

Fun weekend mind and good to put a few faces to names.

making small talk yesterday at dtd, indian guy asks me "so do you come here often"

I say "yeh like 5 days a week"

*Gasps "That must cost you a lotttt of money". FML

You sure he wasn't trying to pick you up?!

Good to meet you last night and wp. Getting 3 streets on A-x-x-x-x with the aces was, presumably, one of the more straightforward pots...!

Chufty and Dempsey the same price to final table as Audley and Lewis.

Lennox, not Toby.

The mind boggles.
