Matt,

I'm going to post a pretty brutal reply here. I feel OK with this as I know it's delivered with wholly positive intentions and well meaning.

You are a fool (said with no disrespect) to ever play in a game of sufficient scale to evoke this kind of emotion. Whilst statistical anomalies are just that, they still exist. If that outcome provokes a sufficiently harmful loss, or profound emotion, to harm your future profitability then it isn't the cooler that cost you, but the decision to be in the game in the first place.

If you are to play for a living you need to redress the balance of the exposure you take upon entering a game; not only for your mental wellbeing, but also financial.

I have stacked off many times over in infinitely more ludicrous spots, so I am no saint. I know, however, that I have genuinely never played for sufficient exposure as to ever question my choices to such an extent. You are undeniably a more than competent player, but I often think of Channing's Twitter strap line which is something like "I am a professional gambler. I may not be the best gambler but I try hard to be the most professional".

Good luck.

Ed

How many times have you met the queen? Poshest person you are close friends with?

Who has been the biggest influence on your poker game?

Best restaurant in Cambridge?

Which have you done most, punting on the cam or trips to Anfield?

Most you have won or lost on a spread bet?

Met Queen 0. Poshest person friends with Ed Gas not even close Tongue

Biggest influence on poker game: Mitch. Played more hands with him than anyone and was the alpha dog in the DTD games when I was coming up through the ranks so he was a big (literally) influence both in actual strategy and how to be a good for the games etc.

Best restaurant in Cambridge: pass, haven't eaten out there more than a handful of times in last 10 years.

Punting on the cam>trips to anfield, by some degree lol.

Never done a spread bet before. Ask me in 12 months time lol. Planning to go HAM. Will post about it here when I've got my bets sorted.

Preposterous.

Questions/scenarios.....

- You can wind the clock back to the time when you were at University. Everything is exactly as it was then. Knowing what you now know, would you choose the same path? What are your reasons why/why not?

- You derive a livelihood in a manner many would believe to be glamorous / aspire to themselves. What would you say are the three most underrated elements of what you do for a living, and the three most overrated elements?

- You have a 10hr day to 'train' an individual who is a complete poker novice, but very bright/perceptive/hardworking, an IQ of 145 and reasonably strong emotional intelligence. After the day's training he will be sent to play £1/2 live NL with your money, on a 50/50 split after stake back, for the period of a month. Would you want to do this in any circumstances? What would you teach him/focus upon? How do you like his chances? What must he avoid at all costs? What must he never forget?

Should be plenty to be getting on with Smiley

I once turned up at the Vic in a t-shirt, back when it was collars only. Had to buy a £20 polo shirt from a shop on the Edgware Road. Basically the same story, right?

Was out of the comp before the first break.

I had a similar coup at the Vic but short trousers --> jeans. I busted in level two, having had 3x starting stack in level one. I know, I know - doesn't sound like me at all...

Something wrong with your camera, tikay.

From here, those look like mulberry trousers. Has Ed Gascoigne reported a burglary?

It's a sign of being posh.

You and I would be thrown out of the shop if we asked to try on a pair, let alone buy them.

A snooty assistant would scurry over and inform me:

"I'm sorry sir but those trousers are very expensive. Perhaps I could show you our socks?"

A friend of mine sports his Doncaster accent with pride, but has certainly done ok for himself.

For a while he ran his boutique football agency out of Mayfair. One day he drove into town, in his trainers and tracksuit, forgetting to put formal shoes in the boot, and he was due to meet a certain James Stunt (Google is your friend) in Crockfords for lunch.

Obviously he's running late (London traffic) and has to nip into one of the shops on Curzon street to buy a pair of shoes. The doorman quietly interrupts his journey. My friend is so incensed, but without any other option, that he decides not to buy the cheapest shoes they stock, but a 'perfectly respectable' pair - £895 please, Sir.

I don't care how well you've done. That's a lot of beans for forgetting your gym kit.

Delighted for you, Tikay.

Thanks for taking the time and effort to describe the journey for those of us stuck at home!!

Thanks all. 20 week scan was yesterday... God willing all goes well over the coming weeks (and years!). Wifey has been an absolute star throughout the pregnancy and I owe it all to her.

Rest in peace, Frankie.

One of the faces I always looked forward to seeing on a trip to DTD. A constantly excited, talkative and kind presence in an environment where this isn't often the case.

You will be sorely missed.

VUL.  Amazing support.  Deserved more.

Was unbelievable. First time I've experienced a "wall of noise". I've heard 'loud' before but there was a moment early in the second half where it felt as though one of those air shot thingamijobs had been fired, but the ball of air was sound and about 80yds across.

We're Sheffield Wednesday, we're on our way back.

Positano? Follow the stairs past that clock tower if so and there's a great 'secret' beach

Was confidently expecting a Wembley pic here with the flag!

Who else is going then? I've never been to Wembley before, I've been giddy like a school kid all week.

I'll be there, got tickets then managed to get 4 extra in a box as a favour. Means I can help out a few lads who are Wednesday fans but don't go as regularly as they used to.

Should be fun.

Me, Father and Sister Gascoigne will be there. Dangling this bad boy off the balcony:

No biggie - trips to Wembley are ten a penny.

I mean, I *already* got to go 25 & 23yrs ago, from when all I can really remember is:

- my dad's mate Soggis thinking the Walkers blue packet offer was just the salt and being livid that he didn't find it until the dregs of the pack.

- another Wedmesday fan who had set out Star Wars models (?!) in the aisles.

- everyone seeming really disappointed compared to when Waddle banged in a screamer / John Sheridan won us the cup in '91.

- being really sad without fully understanding why given I was 4 / 6 years old and Wembley trips *were* ten a penny.

So yeah, there'll be 'PLENTY' of other chances at it whereas 'club night' one offs where you might nick £5-6,000 (which is, don't get me wrong, a considerable sum of money) hardly ever come about.

23 years is a long time. A whole generation.

Have a word with yourself, Arron. It's only money and it comes and goes. You will never, ever, regret turning down just another work night for the chance to be present on Saturday.
