Final Table 8 players left blinds 1000/2000 no ante.

I'm on the BB with  nursing a a relatively healthy 56k in chips.  Every player folds round to the Button who has just won a few pots and is chipleader on about 90k.  I have played against him the previous night and with position he likes to get in with virtually ATC (connectors etc) with a limp or sometimes a raise - I have also noticed he over-defends his blinds and thinks everyone is 'AT IT' when they raise when he's in a pot.  I feel I have the measure of him and have outplayed him a few times post flop.

He limps OTB into the pot for 2k and the SB folds.

I raise the pot from the BB to 6k and he ponders then calls (not unusual)

Flop comes

I bet 9k and he thinks for a bit and calls

Turn

I bet 12k and again he thinks for a bit and asks me how much i have left, i state "20500"..  He toys around for a bit then puts me all in....

Here's my thinking at the time 'OH FUKK' sorry here's my thinking - The limp was weak pre-flop and I have seen him rasising with A 10 upwards no limping - but he will limp with connectors etc so maybe A rag.  Possible limp with AA KK but he's not coming over the top with KK surely so Ace rag is more likely IMO.  Now if he has limped with A rag and flopped 2pair or FH i'm obviously in bad shape but I have a distinct feeling he's at it here so now i think I have put 30k in the pot I can still play 20k and chuck this hand..  He doesn't look to confident and I cant seem to put him on a hand that beats mine.

I call and his face is a picture of misery till I flip over and show  and he laughs and shows  and people on the table say good call etc...  The river brings  and he four flushes me out of the tournament.

I play these things to win but I cant help thinking a really fekked up again at the business end!

Did i do right to play it like i did and was just UL or should i have waited for a better opportunity..

I was afraid of no-one on the table although i respected the players and with hindsight obviously i'm beating myself up.

My question is if you were sat at this table and seen that hand how would you have played it yourself???

Against the player in question? The same as you did.

You had a bad beat, end of story. These things happen.

If my perception of the player is the same as your then I'm pushing everything in.  However I could get away from it here especially with the clubs on board and the rags, but its a judgement call and you where 95% there.  He got luckya nd you never had it on your side when you could have been doing with a slice.

Thanks... For replies

Just good to hear different opinions/angles on how it 'Could' be played rather than 'Should'...

The more weaponry you have in your arsenal the greater opportunity to mix it up...  In hindsight I could have checked the flop being out of position or checked the turn hoping to check raise and put the decision on his toes..  Again all hindsight...

 thumbs up

He would NEVER pass, at any stage. He made some remarkable calls. Red-Dog had sat there rock-solid for 4 or 5 hours, eventually makes his move - pot sized bet - with AA & Matey Boy called him with 9-4.....& won.

Interesting hand

Brave call by the way, regardless of the bad-ish beat at the end, nice call. I think!!

Do you mind telling me who your foe was?

I take it its on the forum somewhere but its taking me a while to catch up!!

Unbelivable 9  4 versusAA - That would have made me sick.  I recall reading this on your thread on main board TK and its the same lucky fish!!!

Agree with what Tikay said that you just got unlucky mate. I agree with your thought process of he wouldve raised with bigger than A T although maybe 45 sooted would've crossed my mind- I would have still made the call though. Good to see you are now thinking every decision you make through properly and it has certainly showed in your results of late- you have made some very impressive changes to your tournament play lately. Sorry I couldn't really talk yesterday, I am still half dead 2 days later and struggled to even watch poker yesterday let alone talk strategies.
Save your first big result for the end of july/early August mate.

The way the hand played out I don't think that you could have done much differently Tosh, although I don't like an ATo raise out of position pre-flop.

Villain has limped for 2k and now the pot is 9k in the middle and its 4k more to him. He can afford the bet, he is h/u and he has position. He isn't passing, so the raise achieves nothing other than pot building and with ATo that is not what I want.

I would have checked pre and kept the pot small. You would have still lost, but a big bet on the turn would now be easier to pass without so much out there and if it was cheap enough to see the river it would have been an easy pass for you.
