I understand the importance of decisions around the bubble, I was just pointing out that on the first day of a multi day one tournament it's pretty much impossible to know where the bubble is.
Seems to me that the issue isn't caused by the payout structure per se, it's playing 16 levels and thus reducing the field to somewhere very close to the money.
The GP is playing to 10% of the field on Day 1 and it's suggested that will be at least 15 levels but there we'll know when the bubble is through simple arithmetic.
Not sure what the answer is, Day 1 is longer because DTD are trying to get the tournament to finish at a reasonable time on Day 2 I believe. Personally, a slightly shorter Day 1 and a noon start on Day 2 works.
I think you are always going to get close to the bubble if you are going to have a semi-decent structure on the final day of a 2 day competition. I don't think you can guarantee this won't happen even if you shift to 15 or even 14 levels. Variance is going to get you every so often. There is precious little you can do if you expect 70 players through, if you play enough tournaments you are sometimes going to get occasions when you get 62 or less.
I don't really see at as much of a problem if this happens though, there are a lot of poker players who dislike the slowdown caused by the bubble and hand for hand. I wouldn't like to guess hich way the vote would go if you gave people a choice between not knowing when the bubble is and having to play 5 hands of hand for hand over 45 minutes. I am sure DTD will look at it, and if they do, hope they come to the conclusion I do, and not change the tournament and structure.
Cheers
and FWIW I have a reasonable understanding of the term multi day and the term trolling.
