Five go to Finneston Rock - Enid Blyton

With lashings and lashings of custard......

Well said Snatty.

I have a very fond memory of the Famous Five stories. I have to pop out now, I'm doing some volunteer stuff with the local environment group, (what fun) but I will tell you about it when I get back. (The fond memory, not the environment group)

I leave the heavyweight stuff out of the suitcase when on holiday - try something by Michael Crichton or J G Ballard.

For humour you can dip into, there's Screen Burn by Charlie Brooker, and for the plane journey try Alain De Botton's The Art of Travel. I listed a few books elsewhere(didn't repeat some of the great suggestions in these threads), but a couple of other mediumweights are:

Miss Smilla's Feeling For Snow - Peter Hoeg
The Long Firm - Jake Arnott
The Tax inspector - Peter Carey
The Real Frank Zappa Book(?) - Frank Zappa

In the Miso Soup and Piercing by Ryu Murakami - but only if you don't mind reading about psychopaths and serial killers.
