I have no idea what triggers nightmares.

It's probably about Roy Rogers gaining weight.

I have to live with flushy, it's one long drawn out nightmare Jane, so no sympathy from me.

Seriously though, I know you have said you sometimes listen to soothing music and this helps a bit. Have you tried any meditation techniques before you sleep? Being in a complete state of tranquil calm is bound to improve the rest you get before you sleep.

When I used to have nightmares, I could generally link them to feeling a bit stressed or flustered whilst falling to sleep, maybe about something in particular, maybe just in general but if i meditate (which can be as simple as spending five minutes in silence or with gentle music on with your eyes closed taking deep, slow breaths) I always sleep very soundly.

I'll msg you later with a few more ideas.

Cheers MrCat, ideas and suggestions most welcome.

I learnt a few relaxation techniques when I was having the children, and I still try to practice them when I notice I'm a little tense falling asleep. Things like focusing on a certain body part and willing it to relax -  mentally relaxing each part of your body starting at the toes and working upwards, it's quite shocking how tense you can be without even realising it.

As for your daily Flushy nightmare, well sorry mate no sympathy. You volunteered for that nightmare!

Check out this youtube video

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wM8pf5-COw8

There is a great book by a guy called Stephen Laberge (sp?)   .    I knew a guy while I was still in School who had a sleep mask and he could dream about whatever he wanted.  I tried the mask a few times, but it gave me a bad headache.  By using the techniques in the book, it is possible to get the same results, however it is tough to get past the tingling stage just as you are dropping off to sleep and still aware .   I know that Ayrton Senna used dreaming exercises to practice driving techniques.

mmmm.. that sleep mask thing sounds interesting... I wish I had more control over my dreams.

I dream very vivid dreams every night - usually at least two different ones a night. Usually they are pretty good, but sometimes they can be really bad... I also 'suffer' from sleep paralysis once every couple of months - sometimes this can be really unpleasant - infact it's what a lot of sleep experts believe explains alien abductions..  There's also something called 'The Entity' that people believe you can see when you're in this state.... Ooooh errrr!! Scary ey!?

Not sure I believe in any of that, though as it's something that happens to me quite often, I've always meant to research it further... One time, my girlfriend at the time had to shake me awake as I was sweating and hyperventalating (even though I was fast asleep!!). Crazy stuff!!

Even so, sometimes sleep paralaysis can be really good, as in total out of body experiences - like you're flying. Absolutely awesome!!! Smiley And I hope I always get these experiences for the rest of my life.

Anyway, Ginger - I hope the nightmares get better!!! Smiley I don't have any tips I'm afraid, as I have no idea why one night I'll dream a great dream, and another night dream a horrible dream Sad

I guess it could all be down to stresses - maybe your body's way of telling you to 'slow down'...? Eat less cheese too! Wink
