An estimated 11mill people will need to be checked apparently;..but if we say this is not the correct figure and even half this that would be 6mill;

6mill x £40'ish pounds = MBN

Cost per check;

Type of Disclosure Costs include CRB fees Info
Basic Disclosures £38 ( plus £2.25 VAT ) more info
Standard Disclosures £46 ( plus £2.25 VAT ) more info
Enhanced Disclosure £51 ( plus £2.25 VAT ) more info
Volunteers (Standard or Enhanced) £15 ( plus £2.25 VAT )

But this doesn't include the cost of appeals,which there will be shed loads..

I have just had my CRB report back and there are 2no convictions for which i never got found guilty on

1 of them ffs was a drunk and disorderly offence for which they said I had £300 fine, costs and banned from driving for 2 years wtf??

I believe the expense likely to be incurred here is unneccesary too. Sadly from in my family I have close experience of the fact that a lot of child abuse is from close relatives of the children. This type of abuse is far more difficult to detect, and indeed far more difficult for the child to counter by reporting etc as they often find it impossible to rationalise the physical act and the family relationship concurrently (sorry haven't explained that well). I have counselling training in such matters, and indeed have assisted families in these types of terrible situations.

Of course no one is going to disagree that we have to continually improve vigilance, protection and victim support. However it remains a subject where the average joe on the street is frighteningly low on knowledge

Only in 2003 a Portsmouth health professional was hounded out of his home by a lynch mob annoyed that a Paediatrician had moved into their neighbourhood.

Interesting article in the Reg about it today.

Why not go the whole hog and make people apply to the government before they are allowed to have children? Would make this country a much better place.

And yes, I am being sarcastic, although now I think about it...

I have 2 kids, so feel qualified to give an opinion Smiley. Huge waste of money, IMHO, it basically makes the assumption of guilt, and it is likely to do virtually nothing to reduce the amount of child abuse in this country. My kids are just starting at a new Beavers, and if I want to volunteer for the parent helper rota I now need to get vetted. This is for maybe 6 sessions per year, where I'd never be left alone with a child. And for that I have get the permission of the state??

I sincerely believe we are quite a long way down the slippery slope to a police state in this country. The government holds a vast amount of data on everybody, and it's getting worse.

Agree with you red however for me it is about money.

A total waste of money on this when people can't get treated for illnesses because its not 'cost effective'

You must have a point.

I said it wasn't about the money, but I went on to say, "but they will cause a lot of ordinary well meaning people a lot of unnecessary expense and inconvenience"

i've confused myself.  was posting on my mobile, should have waited until i got home.
