Hi all

A fairly standard spot here. Just wondering what the correct play would be against a standard against a fairly standard 50NL player. I am the small blind in this hand and get dealt a pair of sevens the actions folds to me and the BB. I don't have a huge sample on him only 71 hands but he has a 3-Bet of 8% and plays 21/14:-

GAME #1958605218: Texas Hold'em NL $0.25/$0.50 2009-11-16 16:27:40
Table Lichtenstein
Seat 1: Rodder5 ($50.25 in chips)
Seat 3: RrodDias ($50.75 in chips)
Seat 5: Lisuu ($74.78 in chips)
Seat 6: SmirnoffIc3 ($52.34 in chips)
Seat 10: Tryonly ($50.00 in chips) DEALER
Rodder5: Post SB $0.25
RrodDias: Post BB $0.50
*** HOLE CARDS ***
Dealt to Rodder5 [ ]
Lisuu: Fold
SmirnoffIc3: Fold
Tryonly: Fold
Rodder5: Raise (NF) $2.00
RrodDias: Raise (NF) $6.00
Rodder5: Call $4.00
*** FLOP *** [ ]
Rodder5: Huh???

Standard Check/Fold or would it be correct to bet out for about $7 and if he has not got the ace he probably folds? Does it work often enough to be +EV?

Dubious call pre - You're out of position and don't have good implied odds.

I assume you called his 3-bet to try and stack him when a 7 comes? Seems a bit desperate to rep the ace, position is working against you, do you think he will fold a big pair to one bet? Do you bluff again on the turn if he flats?

So he's three-bet once or twice over the 12 rounds you've sat with him. Not much to go on and it doesn't really change how you play this flop once you've flatted pre. If I thought a guy was 3-betting v light then I would rather re-raise pre OOP than flat with these stack sizes.

That makes sense. I don't think he was 3-betting light (no real reason to think that) just wondered if it was worth throwing a bet out there to try and win the pot with the ace on the board. Maybe a bad idea though

The idea of the call was to try and hit a set. Is this a leak? $8 in the pot with $44 behind after the call means I am calling $4 to win $52 so 13/1? Minus the $3 rake is calling $4 to win $49. Yes I can see this would be questionable. OK.

I'm looking for 20-1 implied odds with a speculative hand

In this case 13-1 isn't too far off coz you know you'll get paid a lot if you hit 7

this situation is heavily dependant on how the villian plays. if they are 3betting alot id 4bet get it in, but not in this situation with little info. how often do they cbet? if they are doing it habitually id go for a small check raise given the board texture. if their cbet is low id prob check fold. folding pre isn't bad either.
