I never play at the Empire because I don't like the players that play there and don't find it an enjoyable atmosphere. This was a discussion I had with someone who played there who thought it was +EV to call because people stack off with overpairs there. I disagreed.
Personally I don't straddle.

Definitely think it's -EV. I also reckon it's probably -EV to straddle in that game as well, but others may disagree.

The straddling debate is as old as time.
ofc straddling is immeadiatley negative EV, increasing the size of the game/putting in an unnecessary bet without looking at our cards all OOP - this isn't to say that straddling isnt long term profitable for you, i.e it might make other, weaker players do it when your in LP etc, might improve your image etc etc etc if a coupe of weaker players are straddling then get urself in there and straddle imo show a bit of heeeaaaaaaaaaaaarrrrrrrrrrrrtttttttt

UK poker scene which has a healthy population of socially inept online geeks
not sure what makes you think this, I literally couldn't disagree more, i think the majority of successful online players in the UK scene are incred good fun and very comfortable socially , If you compare us to the US online community then shiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiittttttt we're basically all James Bond.

Sorry - wasn't referring to online players as such. More the tendancy of 20-30 year old poker playing people (live and online) tending to post online with numerous acronyms like they are 15 years old schoolgirls, and post dismissively and abruptly. The forum is a worse place for it.
I agree with you that the US online community's capacity for irritation is immeasurable.
But feel free to ignore me as I am generally considered to be a right grumpy b*stard.

I was thinking specifically about the game the OP was referring to. If others are straddling and calling with garbage OOP, then there's really no need to straddle (imo).

Johnny English is probably more accurate.

/thread
why.... wouldn't we like to know where this game takes place?
How predicatable and tiresome. Symptomatic of this forum - no reasoning, just a snide comment. FWIW I was the person advocating always folding here, but this response is typical of the UK poker scene which has a healthy population of socially inept online geeks. The game is at the Empire in London if you want to know. Why don't you go along - I'm sure you'll "crush" it.
I really do not understand the OP, as kinboshi says this is not a play that has long term reward. I was hoping there was a little more to follow because this seemed like a trivial thread that added little to the way of PHA. Then you post the above, how correct you are.... I am neither a cash game player or an online player, neither would I class myself as a socially inept geek... in addition, I am over the age of thirty.. ooo I have it now, I am just immature.
Good luck at the tables, you may just need it!!
