Spam Alert! I feature in a TV Special tomorrow night, "Peoles Poker Challenge - RELOADED".
It's a souped up version of the first Peoples Poker Challenge, which aired about a month ago, and is again sponsored by Sporting Odds.com.
The first half, about 30 minutes long, was shot on Location. Anyone who saw "Lock, Stock & Two Smoking Barrels" may remember the scene in which they played a High Stakes Cash Game in a boxing ring, which was in a dodgy East London gym. Well, we shot this in the VERY same Gym, in the very same ring. It was at Repton Boxing Club, & we filmed it last month I think.
Somehow they persuaded me to dress up as a dodgy "wide-boy" sorta geezer, black suit, biing, the hard man poses & stuff. Me!
We had a scantily-clad Dolly Bird on hand (plenty of norkake as Kev puts it) - not sure why - to give it "atmo" I think, & there were various shots of me and another dodgy geezer getting in & out of our mode of transport for the day - a stunning, bright red, freshly restored E-Type Jag. We make our entrance into the gym in the swaggery hard-man walk, "all right mate/you gotta problem?/you aint seen me, right?" sorta thing. It was about the coldest day of the winter when we shot it, there was no heating, I had no coat & I caught Grade One Man Flu as a result. The lengths we thespians go to for our public.....
Whatever next, I ask myself. GREAT fun to make though, I have to pnch myself some days to believe it's all happening.
Part Two is in a studio, where, miracolously & overnight, but wearing the same dodgy gear, I become a respectable Tournament Director. Easy, this TD lark!
I've had great reports about how it came out, I mean the show rather than my cameo, but I have not seen it yet. The studio rung me last week to tell me they were well happy with it, & so did Ben Walton from Sporting Odds.com, who kindly sent me a DVD of the show, but I don't have a clue how to work DVD's. He told me it fits in my computer, but I'm buggered if I know how to work it, & I've not had time to take a look yet. I'm unlikely to be home in time to watch it on Tuesday when it airs as I'm off to London for the day to Rail our Chili in the Ladies Poker Open. Not sure if I will ever be able to bring myself to watch it. There's a pretty fine line between looking cool, & a complete muppet. I tread the wrong side of that line way too often these days, what with early exits from Poker Comps, 9-0 drubbings at Heads-Up, the barnet, & TV shows......
Ah well, we walk this path in life but once, & I ain't half covered some ground!
8pm on Poker Zone, Tuesday evening, Channel 843.
