I am interested in how the people who work for online poker companies got their jobs?

Was it the conventional way of normal job applications or was it a word of mouth thing?

It's something I have always wanted to get involved with in some capacity or another but I sense the route to get in maybe a little different to normal jobs. Any advice, words of wisdom would be appreciated.

As nobody has answered this yet I'll throw in my tuppence.

Word of mouth is the best way to go but it depends what you want to do (you don't state what kind of job)

I'm always looking for writers.  You can PM me or email me if you're interested.

Pokerstars have a jobs section on their site somewhere. stars is 25% owned by the staff so i bet it's not easy to get in.
It's pretty easy to get a job as some sort of customer advisor when any number of online sites associated to bookmakers.
You could look on bettingjobs.com and sure you could find something there. Also various members of this site run poker sites so maybe they will pm you. Cool

Do any Blondes fit these requirements?

Dear PokerStars Player,

Due to successful and ongoing expansion in Europe, PokerStars is seeking to
expand its Customer Support service with the addition of native French and
German speaking representatives to work from our London, UK Office.

The right person will be a native French or German speaker, with a good command
of English, with very strong written skills and who is willing to work from
Central London.  Such a person will also be a self-starter and able to work
efficiently as a member of a busy team.  Poker knowledge is a plus.

As a Customer Service Representative your principal responsibilities will be the
translation of documents and templates from English to the French or German
languages and at the same time to respond to varied customer requests and
enquiries.

If you are interested in an exciting position with a solid and fast-growing
company, please send a current resume to hr@pokerstars.com together with a phone
number and email address where we can reach you.  PokerStars offers a
competitive salary commensurate with experience.

Regards,

PokerStars HR Department.

Sadly I was born in Stirling.  So that rules me out.  I also can't speak English very well

http://www.pokerstars.com/PScareer.html

Well, I applied about 16 months ago and have been working there very happily ever since. Stars are a great company to work for. The one downside is, I can no longer play my poker there. That really is frustrating as I do believe with my hand on heart, it is head and shoulders above any other site. I hope this isnt interpretted as spamming, for those that know me, it was the only site I would use prior to getting the job.

There are other jobs availble on a failrly regular basis (not thorugh staff turnover I hasten to add, I can only recall one member of staff leaving in my time there). Check the web site and send in a CV
