Interesting reading.....I can't believe that the "top euro player" called him lucky...he flopped a full house and seemed to play it OK.

I seem to recall Dave's stance on deals stems from the time he finished 3rd (i think) in a WSOP event, he felt he robbed himself of the bracelet.

As for the change of heart i won't comment as i got grief for it once before from Carlo Citrone i seem to recall Smiley

Tighty, what did you start lol

Poker is a game of misinformation isn't it.

Precisely. If a certain player is well-known for being anti-deals, then if an opponent really does want to cut a deal, they're likely to offer the non-dealer better terms than they would otherwise, in order to win them over.

Bluffing doesn't stop when the cards stop being dealt...

Did you think that I was making it up then ?

no, not at all...I was corrected because I did not realise that later in the thread it was said a deal was done.

I was interested in Nelson's views of Brits playing "old school" poker...but I seem to have started a completely different debate inadvertently. Oh well!

Let's try & clear up a few comments in this thread.

Did el blondiie agree to a deal? Yes, he did.

Does he norrmally have a "no deal" policy? Yes, I believe he does.

So I asked him, "why?"

I won't reveal exactly what he said, but think along the lines of "qualty of opposition" (Lee Nelson is truly World-Class), relative chip stacks, & DC maybe running a little thin & wanting to build up a Pre-Vegas Bankroll. In other words, bankroll management combined with the quality of opposition. I'm not defending him, or attacking him, just putting the record straight.

Refrence is also made in the thread to Paul Garnham - M3Boy - doing a deal at Luton, when he's often voiced his opposition to "forced" deals.

I was on the table with Paul at Luton when this happened, indeed I was part of the deal.

We had all enjoyed a glorious tourney played in great spirit, & the Chip Leader was simply running away with the comp. Chip Leader then says "look guys, wanna chop it up?" & he offered a remarkably good deal.

Paul initially refused. But Paul has been running very bad lately, & I could see he was agonising over his decision. I said "look Paul, you are running bad, you are not forced to get much at all, here's a chance to pick up a few grand". (Or whatever the numbers were, I forget now). I also said - as is ALWAYS my Policy - (and this NEVER changes) "I will go with the flow - whatever you boys wanna do, I'll go with the flow". Eventually, & almost grudgingly, Paul accepted, but I know it "hurt" him. It's common sense to my mind - sometimes you have to do what you have to do, & if it keeps the wolf from the door, so be it.

I am not taking sides in either Dave or Paul's case, just stating the facts as I know them.

I agree with that, I am dead set against deals but I would never ever rule them out.  It really depends on the timing.
