I usually manage to watch Bargain Hunt most mornings whilst grinding away on the e-felt.  I just have it on as background noise really so don't pay that much attention but one thing i have noticed though in my 15 or so episodes is that I have NEVER seen a team make a decent profit in this program.  For those of you that don't know the format - two teams get £200 or so to buy about 5 items at a car boot and they sell them at auction to try and make a profit.- Whoever makes the biggest profit wins - simple.

A good idea for a program, however the performances of the teams are absolutey useless!! - like totally shite!  They even have so called experts on hand to give advice and point out possible things that might be a bargain. - The experts are shocking  - it seems like they know nothing at all about antiques or collectables. - They even buy the team a mystery item, which nearly always sells for about half of what they bought it for. - Rubbish!!  And they even have the nerve to celebrate a sale with high fives and cheers just because they only made a £10 loss!!! - WFT?!

How can this possibly make good TV when no-one ever does any good on the programme, the bloke who presents it is an absolute numpty who tries his very best to be the most annoying person on the planet. - bring back 'cheap as chips' David Dickinson.

Anybody else have anything to add about this complete carnage of a TV program?!!

the biggest profit was about £600 on one item back when i could watch daytime tv.

The problem is they buy from fairs which are overpriced, auctions are always cheaper.

It pisses off auctioneers.

They are innundated with copycats wanting to sell shoite under the hammer.

Lot 364, two old brass candelsticks that don't match.

Do I hear £50, no,£30, who will give me £30?

Nobody.........£1, who wants these old "brass" candelstick for £1, nobody ok.

Lot 365, five dogeared non-consecutive beano comics from 1989. Who will give me 50p?

Lot 66, a letter opener, sod it, I'll just stab myself throught the heart with it and end this bric a brac torture.

Tim Wonnacott presents it and I think he was a director of one of the big auction houses...Christies or Sothebys

As to thew profit problem...they buy from fairs...the mark ups here are horrific so even if they bargain the trader down there is unlikely to be a profit when it comes to selling to the shrewdies at auction

Even though it is rubbish it has spawned a load of imitators such as Flog it! Car boot sale etc, cash in the attic...all horrible, all cheap to make and preying on daytime tv watchers vicarious greed and avarice.

Exactly the problem, the dealers will buy at auctions to sell at Fairs or in their Shops, its nearly impossible to make a profit the other way round.

I used to have to deal with Tim Wonnacott when he was at Sotheby's in Billingshurst, nice guy, but TV celebrity has left its mark!!!

Pssst  Junior!  Anyone show you what a remote control is for?  LMFAO

Stop watching it!!  lol    Cash in the Attic is a hundred times better anyway.
But that too has it's annoying points - e.g.  "Oh no Jenny is £40 off her target of £3000 for her dream holiday to Russia" - I mean please as if £40 is going to stop her bloody going on holiday!!!

My dad is an antiques dealer and this rash of shows has made making a living a hell of a lot harder for him and he thinks david dikinson is satan himself.

but Cash in the Attic is marred by the most sanctimonious presenter ever to grace our screens, apart from Garth Crooks. Like a vicar on mogadon.

So earnest and completely unwatchable.

lol @ tank.

So why do they (under the guidance of experts) still carry on doing it this way round? - surely they could buy at auction - we could watch them bidding (oh what fun) and then watch them sell the trash at a fair, dealing with barterers and ripping off joe public. - at leat that way they could make a profit.

either way wonnacot is a Tv knob - i am sure off camera he may be a decent bloke but on camera there is no need for that outrageous level of annoyance and extreme campness.

I agree Ace, I used to deal in Antiques in the 80s, then TV shows killed the trade. Luckily my expertise in a specialist area has on the whole made me a reasonable living, but many friends in the trade lost alot of money, or continue to stuggle.
