Instead of which?
Or both?
I like Avast because there are several "live" scanners that don't disrupt my puter at all.

Of course not.

Just ran my puter thru some online scanners/probers and it passed with flying colours!!
In fact some of the tests couldn't even take place because ghostwall wouldn't allow then to obtain the IP address.
impressed so far, especially as it doesn't even appear to do anything and it uses a tiny, tiny amount of system memory.

For a firewall, I uss Sygate Personal Firewall but I'm not sure you can get it for free anymore.  I'll have a look.

edit: It's not, they got bought out by Symantic and it's no longer available.

ZA seems to be the freebie of choice at the moment.

Hi

Thanks for the advice

I decided to give NOD32 a bash.

I already have adaware, so I don't really need much else for spyware and whatnot, I just wanted something to replace the increasingly annoying Norton I was using.

Anyhow, I've downloaded the free trial, and installed the software onto my hard drive. I'm not particularly computer savvy, so is there anything else I need to do, or is it all up and running now?

Make sure it downloads the latest virus definitions (and carries on doing so).

I'm not sure how the trial works but AV without the latest updates is pretty useless.

After it's installed you can pretty much leave it be, it will just sit there, update itself and do it's job.

You should also install spyware doctor, as adaware hardly finds anything - apart from the microgaming malware that all others fail to find Wink

Is it still the case that it finds all microgaming sites as malware?

It used to find ladbrokes on mine, which I thought was odd. My research found out that some company had used some software to autoinstall their casino software, which was microgaming software onto PCs without asking permission etc

So in that case it was erroneously finding them as malware Wink

I have my Adaware set to 'ignore' the Microgaming "malware".
