He may be a cheating racist git, but he's also a World Champion  Cool

So if you are a world champion is it OK to be a cheating racist git?

Not really.

So long as he doesn't play his football in a white hood, I'm not going to get too uppity about it. I'm not the biggest Matarazzi fan, and have no intentions or inclination trying to defend him.

I'll bash Zidane till the cows go home though.

The only thing in the world I have a strong opinion about is violence against women. Some men justify their actions because their spouses were "asking for it." It is this line of reasoning that I take exception with. I've heard about nine different reports as to what Matarazzi actually said. To me it's irrelevant, no words can justify the action Zinedine Zidane took as far as I'm concerned.

Ok sure, Matarazzi isn't a woman, but my thinking on the subject still overlaps a tad. The reasoning being that he was playing on the worlds largest stage. That it was his last game, so he can't get a ban, sends a subliminal message to the entire world that violence is ok when someone says something you don't like.

It's not, there's no excuse.

Ok, nothing is going to happen to Zidane, but he has my eternal disapproval. Hardly a fitting punishment, but it's all I got.

The racist thing is unproven as yet, he's a ditry player, but that's part of the game.

ZZ however has had more red cards than Vinny Jones in international competition, a propensity for headbutting & stamping to earn them & a worrying tendency to lose it in big games where he's not getting the results his play would warrant (at least in his mind). He's also a world champion, does that excuse his other faults?

Zidane hasnt had more red cards than Vinny Jones. And Materazzi has previosuly been proved that he is a racist idiot.

Eh? I think you'll find I'm right

This is the crux of the problem with racism in football. We should get uppity about it IMO. Othwise it remains the same.

Fair point.

Although you can't really crack down on people for what they think, only for what they do.

I reckon that if a stranger went up to any one of a number of prominant blondites at BB3, tweeted his nipple, gave him a bit of racial abuse then made some grossly offensive comments about his child or maybe a dead relative, our blondite would get a round of applause for lamping him, not a slating for being a thug or letting Blonde down.

The French seem to be quite proud of Zidane, good for them.

make your mind up.

first it was ronaldo, then zidane, now mazaratti, knowone was coating him off on sunday when it was clear that he had said something of that magnetude.

everyone wants to jump on the hate mazaratti bandwagon now that theyve had the chance to read two full editions of the sun.

I'll do you lot a favour and give you some advice: make up your own mind about something and stick to it, people might even respect you for it!

He is class defender

That Flushy, is just not true!

I have seen him plan for Everton and Inter and he has never ever struck me as 'class'. Can put his weight round in that league and thats about it. He did manage to give Bellamy a dig which he duly obliged with a reaction to get sent off! (I know not a difficult ploy!!)

You could basically play Boumsong alongside Cannavaro and he would look good, and I not even joking. That man is an unbelievable defender (the Italian one not the French!)

Since Sunday evening the whole World has been debating what Italian defender Marco Materazzi said to Zinedine Zidane to make the retiring Frenchman react
in the way he did. The French captain, in his last ever professional game, thrust his head into Materazzi's chest in Sunday's World Cup Final resulting in a red card and shame for Zidane. Today, with the help of Italian lip-reader Arturo Belladini, we can reveal what drove Zidane to self destruct; Materazzi was seen to hold Zidane's shirt on the edge of the penalty box in extra-time at which point Zidane said  "if you want my shirt so bad you can have it".

Materazzi responded "I dont want your shirt you m***** f*****. you're a f****** old man"

As they jog away Zidane is seen to laugh at this and it is unclear how he responded due to him having his back to the TV camera.

Materazzi then hit a volley of abuse  "you should've quit 2 years ago, you're a f****** has-been, m***** f*****! Your mum is a f****** muslim terrorist and you are too, f*** you old man f*** you old man, this arena is not for you anymore m***** f*****".

Zidane carries on jogging away.

"You are only good enough for Tottenham now". It's at this very point Zidane turned and nutted him one.
