Enchantment? Enchantment!

Just wanted to ask people's advice about overbetting, recentlly I've been struggling in the middle to late stages of tournaments in terms of my stack, I always seem to have less than average chips, mainly because I don't think I bet enough into pots or push all-in enough. So I wanted to ask when is the best time to overbet a pot? The hand in question that made me think about this is when I over-raised with AK and got the BB to commit with a meagre A7, I think it's the right move because he likely to push with decent pairs or strong aces anyway, but with the big raise it looks more like I'm just trying to steal the blind with a marginal hand therefore I can entice a call from weaker aces which is what I wanted to happen, and he'll fold any junk anyway. Just wondered what your thoughts on overbetting pots were. Cool

I think your example is poor, pushing here with AK is the standard play.

I think the reason you go deep without accumating chips is that you are a self confessed rock...

Ok well, take me out of the equation... When would you look to overbet a pot?

You might overbet the bot for one of following reasons that I can think of.

1. You think you have the best hand and you think your overbet will get called.

2. You think you have the best hand but there are are lots of draws, and possibly multiple opponents. The pot is already big and you want to win it now.

3. You have a big draw and you are on a semi-bluff. You want your opponent to fold but you will play the draw if neccessary. You either bet all in, or bet enough to make sure you can't pass to a re-raise.

4. You are bluffing.

The 4th I don't like doing much, I find it too obvious personally against an experienced player.
