On sunday my brother phoned to ask if I fancied going Great Yarmouth as there's a live game on at 5pm, I didn't really fancy it but he managed to talk me into going and play the £30 NLH re-buy at Grosvenor Casino as me brother didn't want to go alone bad beat yawn, i really didn't want my 1st ever live tourney to be a re-buy (especially £30) as I'd heard some bad story's about players with loadsa dosh that will call any raise, any allin with any 2cards up until re-buys over, and Grt Yarmouth is just over an hour away and if I wanted a game of bingo there's a game just 5min's down my road but I thought I'd give it ago but was only buying in and wasn't going to have any re-buys.
Got there with 5min's spare so put £1 in fruit machine and turned that into £35. I'd also played a $5mtt on Laddies that morning and finished 4th so luck seemed to be on my side so far. Anyway, we all took our seats (60-70players) and my 1st hand was and I was on the button, everyone limped in and I put a raise in, bigblind re-raised and it folded round to another player who called, I also just called and hoped for a raggy flop, flop was  Two Diamonds , the re-raiser pushed allin, other player called and I called thinking if either has  or  then goodluck to them (although I felt sure re-raiser had a big ace but the other player well I didn't have a clue what he had), 3 allins so cards turned over, R-R had  , other had  , so things were looking great for me. then turn card was the dreaded  , river  and there I was shouting "MORE CHIPS HERE PLEASE" (well I'd won on the fruity so I put it to good use)
After an excellent 7hours of more play the fields down to *9* players and I'm the shortest stack and my brother was still in and on my table in 7th place, I got dealt  on button, folded round to me so only option I had was allin or fold, "allin" i say, smallblind folds and for my brother to call its only another 2k, so after making me sweat a little he called and turned over  , so all on a coin flip (more or less) flop, turn & river..    , .. . LUVLY!! doubled up just at right time and on the other table the player in 8th place (stack wise) had gone allin and lost so now all over to the final table (couldn't believe my luck). 1st battle on ft, one player had  and chip leader had  , both allin preflop, no help for the Q man and now down to 7players. Next battle was loose aggressive player in 2nd place and the chip leader, loose man pushed allin on the  flop with his  , chip leader called with his  , no help for loose man on turn or river so now down to 6player. I'm now on bigblind with , it folds round to smallblind who raises so I pushed allin (2k more than his raise) he called and showed  , flop showed 2clubs but no help for me on turn or river, so I finished 6th in my 1st (and definitely not last) live game Smiley Me and my bro said we'd go 50/50 on our winnings, I won £260 and he finished 5th winning £380 so all in all on my 1st live experience...TOP BUZZZZZ!!! and can't wait to play again.  TJ

The only part of that story I find difficult to believe is that there were 60 to 70 players in Great Yarthmouth. Times must of changed as when I use to play there every week it use to have only approx 30 people, of which only a dozen or so could actually play  Cheesy

Maybe it's time to return to the bright lights of Great Yarmouth.

the only strange thing is that when you were down to 8 players left you still have 2 tables?Huh? and didnt have a final till last 6.

strange to see a short handed event in a Casino.

I'm sorry, I made a little error with....' the player in 7th place had gone allin and lost so now all over to the final' I meant 8th, there were 7 on each table. Didn't realise you were gonna be that picky

Well done on your first live game!

I don't think anyone's being picky. They (as I) were just trying to picture the whole thing and follow your story. My brain still can't work it out but I'm used to playing on full tables where 8 is shorthanded.

Like I said, congrats and gl next time.

TJ, are you a mate of Smithys as your both from Bury St Edmunds and have you ever played at the Lakenheath poker club which Smithy recently visited. I'm thinking of visiting the club in the near future.
