N/P: Gangsta No1

It's not a straight biopic in the mode of the Krays, it's more stylized. The whole concept for one, that it's told in flashback with Malcolm McDowell playing the older version of the Bettany character, is always going to make it slightly less multiplex and more arthouse.

Don't expect "Lock Stock", or even "Sexy Beast" but I thought it was worth seeing.

Bettany was especially good (but then he always is).

They have to test the water with the pony films, its how they come up with the good ones

I like love honour and obey for its comedic element, i used to watch the same team of actors in their police docu-comedy program, i cant remember what it was called but it was blinding, i dont think you could view this film as a "serious" gangsta film but its got a good soundtrack, good story line, the violence is funny and the actings o.k

sexy beast!!!! are you for real?

If you think Gangster No. 1 was bad, then what on earth can possibly be made of  -

- that movie the All Saints made with Dave from Eurythmics?
- "Rancid Aluminium" (with Rhys Ifans)?
- "You're Dead" (with John Hurt)?
- "Kiss Kiss Bang Bang" (the 2000 version with Stellan Skarsgard and... yes, Paul Bettany)?

There comes a point where you have to admit that there are some truly dreadful Brit Gangster films out there, Gangster No. 1 is by no means the worst of them.
