Now tourney strategy for fo DGS and OE straight draws I'm curious, I have got in to a silly habit of just calling to see if i hit, where as before i would utilise the semibluff in most cases to win the pot.
Whats the general opinion on how best to play these draws
I'd treat them pretty much the same as flush draws - you have roughly the same number of outs but the beauty of them is that they can be disguised so much better, especially some double belly busters.
If my opponent is being the aggressor:
First thing to take into account is pot odds, if i have to call what odds am i being offered? Then i take implied odds into account, if i call taking slighlty less than correct pot odds on the flop what are the chances that i will win more money off my opponent if i hit?
If no-one has bet the pot and i have the chance to be the aggressor:
What are the chances of being able to semi bluff at the pot and the odds of my opponents folding? What are my opponents perceptions of me - if they think i am playing tight/solid then there is more chance that i will get my opponents to fold, if they think i'm playing loose/aggresive then there maybe more chance that somebody will call. Also how is the board looking? If i am going to semi-bluff i need to be able to convince the other players that i've hit some part of the flop, if i've being playing tight and only turning over premium cards like AK i'm going to struggle to convince players that i've hit part of a 3-5-7 rainbow flop.
Also i need to decide the standard of my opponents and also how they are playing, if they are of a poor standard and wont understand anything fancy then i usually just stick to ABC poker. If they are calling stations then i'm probably not going to attempt a semi-bluff as i wont be getting the correct odds to make the move worthwhile so i'd rather take the free card and see if i hit.
