To be the man, you've got to beat the man

Wow, where do I start....

So I am on holiday this week and had a good month online in October, so I decided to play at the Midland Masters at Walsall.  Now these events are well above my normal buy ins, but I thought I would have a go as a treat for myself and to get more experience playing live.  So I set out my agenda, play the super sat on Tuesday afternoon allowing myself £100 tops (£25 rebuy), then play the £200 freeze on Tuesday night.  Any returns would be a bonus and I set out to have a good time and play good poker.

Super sat to £500 freeze on Thursday, 33 runners, 1 rebuy, 1 add on, total £77.50.  Had to lay pocket kings on ace high board, go low on chips and found pocket fours in BB.  2 limpers, flop quad .  Matey bets into me and other guy calls on both flop & turn, I move in after river and get 2 calls, triple up.  Managed to duck n dive into the top 4 and win seat on thursday.  Not a bad start.

£200 freeze out, 170 runners.  Hand 3, matey raises in middle position to 200, I find pocket in SB and call extra 175.  Flop 3 5 8 rainbow.  I check, he bets, i raise and he goes all in.  I have him on an overpair and call.  He turns over pocket .  Damm, set over set, I'm dead and first out, except for the one outter I hit on the river for quad , unbelievable...

So I double up early then sit on my chips and grind away for the next 8 hours and find myself in the final 15 and coming back on Wednesday.  I'm short stacked so have to get busy, making moves etc and managing to keep my head above water.  Another big hand I find KQs and move in to be called by AJo, but I hit a straight to double up.  Next thing I know its the final table, I'm still short stacked and make a key call for all my chip with pocket in SB and it holds up against QJo.  So there are 6 players left, top 4 fairly even in chips and me and matey slightly less than average, but still close.  There is £29k in prizes left, £1400 for next out.  Then Ash 'the cash' (who I think was chip leader at the time) suggests a deal where the top 4 take £5k each and me & matey take £4500.  I am well up for that and the deal is done.  So offically I finished 6th but for my biggest cash ever (by a long way).

I am still buzzing and can't wait till the £500 freeze tomorrow.

Thanks for the support guys.  Played in the £500 last night and finished 36th.  I have to admit to being a bit starstruck when a certain Mickey Wernick sat down to my immediate left at the start of the 2nd level.  I hope that it did not affect my game but he does have a presence at the table, so I decided against doing anything silly like trying to pinch the legends big blind.

I never got chips and was duckin n divin for about 7 levels but managed to build my stack by making a lot of pe flop raises and not getting called.  I was disappointed how I went out.  I was on SB, all fold to me and I find Ace Five offsuit and raise 3k (about 25% of my stack), BB calls.  I have decided to move in before the flop is dealt and do so when it comes K T 4.  BB thinks for a while and calls with Ace Eight.  Turn 9 gives me split pot opportunities but river 8 and I'm out.

I have had a great week at Walsall, the best week of my poker life.  But in the words of Ali G, I am trying to "keep it real".  Its back to work next week and then up to newcastle on Friday night for the apat on Saturday.  Looking forward to it, I'm playing well and the structure is fantastic at the apat events.

Well done for getting to 36th anyways...and from the sounds of it very uncluky not to get away with that raise..( strange call on that board with A8...)

Congrats mate well done.

Is anyone going for the Shoot-out tonight and any idea of how many runners?

Unsure whether I can make it yet due to a few family pressures, but I would like to play something and tomorrow' s main event is too expensive for me.
