Thinking back, one of the great ironies of the Panini era was that in the World Cup issues, the minnow teams like El Salvador, etc had the 2 players to a page stickers on them, which is exactly what they did with the Scottish Premier League in the league versions!

Not in the Scottish Ones. I couldn't be bothered with them, collected the Celtic, then the rangers and assorted others who'd annoyed me (Miller, McLeish, Rougvie, Strachan) for the dartboard.

Oh happy days.

Do you remeber going through fistfuls of stickers saying "gotit, gotit, gotit, Neeeeeeeeeeeeeeedit, gotit, gotit."?

And was there an exchange rate at your schools?

Rare Arsenal and Spurs (Chipper Brady or Steve Perryman) players were worth more than rare Middlesrough or Aston Villa players (Graeme Souness with a huge afro or Gordon Cowans).

Don't forget the foil stickers for the club badges.

hands up if you can remember the year the changed the foil badges for "silk" ones. I think it only lasted the one year...

I remeber collecting one year, getting 15 Mark Hately swaps.

Had lots of fizzy pop one day, decided to give up on the album, and see how many Mark Hateleys I could collect.

3 other local Primary schools knew that there was a guy collecting Mark Hatelys and I would swap 20 stickers for one. I'd have a kid in each of them middle manning it for me.

It was a big campaign, it had energy to it. We got over 350 of them in the end.

To this day, whenever I move house, at the bottom of at least one box there always seems to be a Mark Hately. Every time this happens, I'm reminded of what an ugly mother f**ker he really was.

I've almost forgot I used to smoke - truly! (Chili too).

It has to be said, that book you sent me by Mr Carr was simply the worst written book I've ever read, but by golly, he got the message home, & I can honestly say quitting the ciggies was 100% totally stress free, it was easy-peasy. Sadly, poor (?) Mr Carr died recently - of lung cancer, of all things. Oh, the irony.

Do I feel better for it? Hmm. I SMELL better, I guess, & I certainly sleep better - I have sleeping sickness, I can't get enough kip, which is a bad thing, as it's so time-consuming.

But mainly, it's the freedom I like. I don't have to make sure I always have fags with me when I go out, carry them around, "pop out for a gasper" between hands in poker tourneys, or stand outside in the cold when I'm in the office & "smoke-break" time arrives every hour.

I said, when I quit, that I'd start again at Christmas - maybe - so decision time is looming.......

I have a confession Tikay.

I started smoking again 6 weeks ago after stopping for 3 years. But I have started reading the book again; I'm up to chapter 3 and I hope to have finished the book and stopped by xmas day.
