Is it safe to have money on Paradise? I don't understand this kind of business stuff but this guy seems to be saying that without US players last year Sporting Bet would have been running at a lose. They obv have a lot less customers now than they did then right?

if you look at the numbers that the company has presented the market, you will see what I mean. Of their Net Assets at 378.3 million pounds, goodwill was 351.6 million. They are making a write down at 210 million. and will still have goodwill valued at 151.6 million pounds. Paradise is still valued at 63 million pounds, and if they keep losing players, they have to write down this value too. The rest of the goodwill at 88.6 million is the value of the sports betting and sportingbet poker. The question is if the results from these operations are good enough to justify this goodwill.
If you look at their results in the year ended in July 2006 excluded American business, they lost money.
Add in the fact that they now in November had to pay 33.3 million dollars in cash to the former Paradise owners and they are losing money at the moment, it is obvious that they will have a shortage of cash during the quarter (they had net cash at 35.2 million pounds pr. 13th of October).
Punters money is 100% safe at Paradise, Byron, in my opinion.
Sporting Bet have, for some time, owned Sporting Odds, & Paradise, & now, following the Ameican situation, they are amalgamating the two (as they always planned to) under Paradise Poker, as they deem the software better than Boss.
They are NOT losing money, nor did they in '06, contrary to the 2+2 thread. Their Online Sports Betting & Casino Operations continue to be immensely profitable.
To optimise the changeover to Paradise, a "Roadshow" is in progress. We went to Bregenz in December, we do Denmark next month, Glasgow follows (oddly, Austria, Hungary, Denmark & Scotland are Sporting Bet "hotspots), & we have a major event planned for the summer - a 500 runner, Deep-Stack, low buy-in, Live Event at a very special Cardroom in the UK. Watch this space!
But of course, you must follow your instincts, & if you feel uncomfortable with Paradise, then so be it, but I hope you'll join us.

You cannot bust me if you have less chips than me, & I get 5,000 chips to start with, and my very own lever.

And indeed they have. Here is the reply I got from my Guv'nor at Paradise/Sporting Odds.
".....It’s only on the Paradise software.
- If they already have a Paradise account they can log in with that and play in this tourney. As the tourney is open to all Paradise clients players can register for it from any Paradise download.
- Alternately they can re-download from SportingOdds and can then use their Sportingodds bankroll.
- Multiple accounts aren’t ideal but as we realize they may happen as a result of this process. At some point in the future duplicates will be amalgamated but only once the player has been consulted.
- If anyone has any tech problems tell them e-mail
enquiries@SportingOdds.com
or call on 08000 727 727 – I’ve put Customer service on red alert.

At least they are truthful & realistic! Many sites wish they could say the same.

The difference is they *know* they are creating multiple accounts for people on paradise, you said yourself they have known they were going to do this for a while, why not attempt to cross reference the existing paradise members with sporting odds members BEFORE?
I just find the "aren't ideal" comment a bit silly.

Noted. But, & trust me here, amalgamating the two sites is a lot more challenging than you'd ever imagine, it's been really very demanding.

To be fair, Paradise have always been the 'strictest' site when it comes to issues such as IP address conflicts, etc. That was the main reason why I asked the question, as I didn't want to create any problems for myself by creating a duplicate account.
I have every faith that there will be little risk of additional collusion issues as a result of this policy. I just wanted to make sure I wasn't going to end up with an 'account frozen' type issue if I ported over my Sporting Odds account.
At least now we have clarity. Thanks to Tikay and his contact for that. It wasn't my intention to dissuade people from playing at Paradise by asking the question so apologies if people have interpreted it this way.

Not at all, all the questions, from everyone, were fair, & so, I hope you'll agree, were the answers.
